I used to be an installer... 15-20 years ago now (yikes) but changed careers and went on to have a family so I've been out of the scene for a long time.

I've always been partial to SQ vs SPL. I've recently purchased a 2021 Ford F-150 and wanted to redo the sound system. I'm looking for some nice component sets (or a component set in the front and coxial in the back doors).

My budget for speakers + amp is probably $1,000-1,250. That includes:

Set of 6.5" components for the fronts
6.5" for the back (either the same components or just coax)
Possibly replacing the center/dash speaker (unsure on size at the moment, probably something like 3.5 or 4")
Amp to drive it all

I considered buying an old set of Image Dynamics ctx6.5's which were some of my favorite components back in the day but I'm curious to what else is out there these days.

Wouldn't bother with the center channel speaker at all. A good set of components is all you need. Morel Maximo Ultras all around is a good starting point. Less than 400 for fronts and rears If going with the stock radio You can do the amp one of two ways. An amp with high level inputs like the ACM 4.300 or you could get a LoC (kicker key is a good one) and an amp. You will spend quite a bit more on wiring as it is highly suggested that you ground at the negative terminal of the battery on an aluminum body f150

Best value 6.5” components?

Don't go with morel or focal or even hertz if you don't plan on sound deadening. Those speakers will shine in a properly deadened location - but they'll sound just like everything else if they are in just an OEM spot with no deadening. Idk which Polk speakers that other guy was talking about but Polk is for the home IMO - for car audio they lack, they were good a few decades ago, but competition has caught up and passed them - and idk what world we're living in when someone says an Alpine type r doesn't sound as good. Some of my favorite sounding speakers those Type R series, they take boatloads of power too and EQ well. The other guy recommending DS18 and B&C - I don't think it's for you. I run PRV myself and the pro audio style drivers like he's recommending are for a certain type of person - the type who just wants absolute loudness and isn't chasing top SQ. I would stay away from focal entry level drivers, the morel (either set) or the Hertz will be some of the cleanest sounding speakers under heavy power. Me personally - I would go with the morel maximo and spend more on the amp to ensure you have enough power to send it clean RMS and not distort. If you want to spend more than sure the morel ultra will sound a bit better, but it's not worth it if you can't properly power them. IMO also - the Hertz sound better out of the box with no EQ than the morel, but the morel takes EQ'ing better if you get what I mean. Think it's a more flat response than the Hertz. An EQ'd morel will likely sound better than it's Hertz equivalent. Also like that other guy said if your DSP or amp has high level inputs I would do that and skip that 3rd party LOC.
