We're carless, but when we rent cars or use my in-laws car, it's always smaller cars with smaller backseats and we've been happy with Britax carseats with our kids for convertibles. Answer from WerewolfBarMitzvah09 on reddit.com

Our little one is 6 months old and maxed out the height limit on his infant seat. I need to get a convertible and I wanted the Graco Extend2fit or the Evenflo Revolve360 but after reading reviews I’m worried they might not work with our Hyundai Elantra. They do have the slim fit/space saving styles but they don’t look anywhere near as cozy and don’t have any extra features. Anyone have suggestions for a convertible car seat that will work well with a small midsize sedan?

I have a 2023 Corolla Hatchback, and while the trunk space is very nice (comparable to the 2013 Hyundai Tucson that I used to drive), the back seats lack legroom. I currently have an Uppa Baby Mesa anchored to the middle seat, and that gives my husband and me (5'7" and 5'3", respectively) enough legroom to be comfortable, but I'm concerned about our pickings for rear facing convertible seats.

I am not concerned about space across as we only have one child and plan to wait 4-5 years between now and having another. The depth of the seat rear-facing is my bigger concern. The EvenFlo Revolve 360 is on sale right now for $380 at Walmart, and that would definitely be helpful for getting baby in and out with our low vehicle height, but I don't even know if my back row has enough depth for it to swivel effectively. The Graco Extend2Fit looks like it would fit comfortably, but no swivel.

If you have a small hatchback or sedan, what works for you?

My little guy is about to graduate from his infant car seat to a convertible car seat. One of our big concerns is whether the car seat will fit into the cars we use. For context, we don't own a car, so we rent cars for road trips and use a car sharing service on occasion. The cars from the car sharing service are typically compacts like a Kia Rio or a Toyota Yaris.

The convertible car seat I'm most interested in is the Evenflo Revolve 360. It is just over 2 ft tall according to the specs. Would it fit into a compact car?

Does anyone have any recommendations for convertible car seats for smaller vehicles?

I’m trying to decide on a convertible car seat and overwhelmed with the options. I’m looking for something that swivels/rotates and is fairly compact. My husband and I are both tall, and already with just the infant seat installed it’s a tight fit for my legs when I sit in the passenger seat.

Features that would be nice to have would be flame retardant free (was looking at the Nuna Revv but the height/weight limit is low) and easy to switch between cars.

Does what I’m looking for exist? I took the Safe in the Seat quiz and nothing pops up with all those features. When selecting for compact and swiveling seats, only the Graco Turn2Me was given as an option, however I’ve read conflicting reports on whether or not this is truly compact.

Any help would be much appreciated 😅

ETA: now I’m second guessing the swivel feature, is that truly worth it?

My little one is 12 months old now and has outgrown his Chicco Keyfit 35. I'm looking for a compact convertible that is narrow. I have a Tesla Model 3 which is quite tight in the back seat.

I was initially looking for rotating ones, but discovered they are quite bulky compared to the normal slim ones.

Ideally under $450, having washable fabric is a plus but not required.

My main priorities are safety, comfort for the kiddo and possibly a narrow one. I live in the US.

Thanks for your help.

My 7mo old is getting pretty long and I think she might outgrow her infant car seat in a month or two. My main concern is I have a Toyota Yaris, and convertible car seats are huge.

Is there a car seat that is:

Compact enough for a small car and to still be able to have someone ride in the passenger seat.

Cool enough for a hot swampy climate?

Comfortable for a baby who currently hates car rides?

I’m willing to spend anything, because I feel like it’s still cheaper than a new car.

We have a Suzuki swift, it is pretty new and not at all looking to change cars as we live inner city and don't want anything bigger. However I am worried about what car seat to get and if any are going to fit in the back. My partner does most of the driving, so we will likely have 2 adults in the front most of the time and this is our first child. Anyone with this car or smaller have any car seat recommendations and if it is a problem for you or not?

Infasecure Attain/Quattro or Secure Safe Defend (which is effectively the Baby Bunting version of the Attain). Very compact, and has some features which other brands don’t have: adjustable crotch buckle, which no other 0-4 seats currently have. It makes a huge difference in getting a good harness fit. you can switch the tether adjuster to either side yourself, very easily. Other brands you either have to get an approved fitter to do it or it can’t be done at all. you can use a rolled towel to adjust the recline to get it right. Britax/Safe n Sound/BabyLove does also allow this, to be fair, but Maxi Cosi and Mother’s Choice do not. A seat that’s too upright can mean chin to chest headflop which is dangerous as it can cause positional asphyxiation. replacement cover sets are reasonably priced (other brands aren’t - almost cheaper to buy a new seat in some cases) Infasecure is the only brand on the Australian market which has a crash tested “piddle pad” - so, so, so useful when toilet training! they have a deep seat pan which means kids tend to sit a lot lower in them, meaning firstly you’ll get longer rear facing and then longer in the seat generally. We have a Britax Graphene and the 0-8 version of the Defend, and it’s very clear that my toddler will have to forward face in the Graphene before the Secure Safe - she sits far deeper in the Secure Safe. Australian designed and made, which is a bonus in my view. I do like our Graphene a lot, but I don’t think I’d buy it again - I’d get an Attain or a Defend if I was replacing it. EDIT: this FB group is awesome for car seat advice. Highly recommend joining,

I have a 2006 Swift and we fit the Maxi Cosi Pria GCell in it. It's a bit squishy for someone to sit in the front passenger seat so my husband sits in the back (probably would anyway to be next to our newborn) Baby bunting were really helpful and let us put it in our car before buying so we could see what sort of space it takes up.

We live in a city and mainly use our car for weekend trips so I’m looking for a convertible car seat that can be used from infant to toddler. We have a smaller car (ford focus) and need a convertible car seat that doesn’t take up too much space from front to back. Since we use the car for longer road trips the passenger seat has to be practically comfortable for at least two hours of driving and have reasonable leg room for my 5’10 husband. I can’t find too much online for front to back dimensions of convertible car seats and most of the recommendations for convertible car seats for small cars is about how narrow the seat is, not how much space it takes front and back. What are some good convertible car seats that work for small cars, preferably under $300?

We are looking to get a revolving car seat once LO grows out of the infant car seat, but concerned about the size of the car seats when rear facing. We have a smaller SUV and currently, our Chicco infant car seat pushes the passenger seat to be more forward toward the dashboard than what’s comfortable. I can’t seem to find the specific dimension for how deep the revolving car seats go toward the back of the seat in front of it online. Any recommendations of which one(s) save the most space? Without knowing dimensions, we are drawn to the Chicco revolving seat because we have been very happy with the brand for our infant seat and stroller.

My husband and I have a 2015 chevy cruze and are both on the taller side. With our carrier style car seat, we've found that leg room is lacking for whoever has the baby behind them. Like, I'm not talking mild discomfort. I'm talking knees touching the dash.

We only have one child and will likely only ever have one due to the complications I faced with her, so I don't care too much about the width of the car seat (which is what most review sites seem to care about most), but I do 100% care about the depth. I want the seat that takes up the absolute least amount of room when it comes to moving the front seat back.

Right now I'm looking at the Graco Slim Fit but I think its more middle of the road than I first thought. It's definitely skinny, but still a little deep.

My 7.5 month old is currently still using an infant car seat from the travel system stroller. It’s starting to become inconvenient, and heavy, to lug it around every time we need to go somewhere.

We put the Maxi Cosi Pria on our registry and a family member bought it for our shower. At the time I hadn’t done much research and didn’t realize it was a tight fit for my car (BMW X1). We ended up putting it in my husband’s Wrangler instead.

Does anyone with the same car/similar size small SUV have recommendations for a convertible car seat that works well and isn’t too big? Ideally one that would be good in the middle seat.

Hey everybody!

I’ve been looking at a larger car seat for my daughter as she is 8 months and surprisingly tall.

I have a 2015 Chevy Malibu and I’ve been reading online and searching old reddit posts and I think we are going to go with the Graco Extend2Fit but I figured I should check here and see if anybody else has the same car or know which would fit?

We can’t return anything in our town now due to COVID and and also can’t take it to our car to see if it will fit. So I just don’t want it to be too big.

Thank you!

Hi all! My husband drives a Ford Focus ST - and it is so small! With LO’s Bucket seat in, the front passenger seat has to be pushed up too far to be comfortable for me. It’s about time to switch over to a convertible car seat - I have the britax marathon in my car, but we think it may be too big for his. We’d like to be able to push the front seat back a little. What are the best seats out there for small cars? Thanks!

It’s time and we all know with twins, savings is a good push so trying to decide what to do and buy on Black Friday.

But the options are so confusing and then trying to take into consideration needing to put behind the driver seat (hello twins) so not sure what will fit and of course nothing really helps.

Has anyone found the Safeintheseat buyer course useful? With twins? does it take that into account? It’s on sale but I don’t want to spend the $ to find it isn’t going to work with our needs.

I currently have a CX5 but will definitely be getting something bigger eventually (when car prices decide not to be insanity lol) but so it needs to fit in my current backseat (which is tight behind behind the driver with even the infant seat).

Anyone else find good resources for finding the best car seat? I’m not sure about a full convertible (like up to 120lb, is that necessary or will it be better to just buy a booster when time comes?)

I’m sure there’s so much I’m not considering. We got the Nuna Rava’s for my wife’s car a few months ago during the Nordstrom sale - while I love the fabrics - they’re so tough to get the twins in/out of without banging them on the car or feeling like you will drop them having to lift them so high up to get into the seat. I want to get a rotating seat but I’m worried they’re too big to fit behind my driver seat or do 2 next to in the backseat. I wish you could just go somewhere and test them all and feel the fabrics 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Backless boosters are so cheap that I wouldn't worry about making sure your convertible does that. By the point they need the backless booster, the carseat will have seen better days and may even be passed the expiration date (I know a lot of people who were sub 100lbs at 9-10 years old).

Don’t do the safeintheseat buying kit, all her resources are free now (the recommended seat list) so there is zero reason to get the buying kit when the same info is on her site for free. The only thing the buying kit has that the new free stuff doesn’t, is the ability to filter car seats by specific features. I find her info a lot more thorough and accurate than CSFTL which has some errors in the reviews on their site (I’m also a CPST and they straight up get some things wrong with certain seats) I am LOVING the Britax Poplar, which is brand new so no really big sales yet but it’s 20% off on Albee Baby right now. It’s very narrow at 17” wide, extremely compact front to back for rear facing when you install it more upright (there was some question about whether the recline indicator was placed on the seats correctly but Britax has clarified that it was) and Clicktight install is as easy as it gets. It won’t work forward facing in vehicles that have fixed headrests that can’t be removed… but other than that, it has reallyyyy impressed me so far! And that’s not an easy thing to do, I’m picky and I own/have reviewed most convertible car seats out there. I’ll be getting Poplars for my parents to keep on hand for the grandkids so I no longer have to install/remove seats every time we visit - because nothing else I own is easy enough that I’m confident my parents will be able to install easily and correctly each time (at least, nothing with the 50lb rear facing weight limit that my bigger twin needs currently) As someone else said, safe boosters are inexpensive when the time comes. To add to that, all-in-one seats make huge, crappy, difficult boosters (most kids can learn to buckle themselves in a regular booster, but an all-in-one in booster mode sits so much higher off the seat that it’s a harder process). So think about what will meet your needs for the rear and forward facing harness stages, and worry about boosters in 5 years or so! ETA: all the rotating seats are really large front to back except for the Graco turn2me (don’t think you’d like the fabric compared to Nuna) and Nuna Revv. It’s nice, and will have the same fabrics you like on the Rava, but it maxes out at 40lbs altogether, even forward facing, so it’s $$$$$ x2 for twins unless they’re teeny tiny. Most kids will reach the Revv limits by age 4 and then you need another harnessed seat before they’re old/mature enough to use a booster with seatbelt.
