Top 10 Best Cordless Vacuums of 2025 | Over 110+ Models Tested | Vacuum Wars
April 16, 2024 - If you have a lot of hard flooring, a dedicated soft roller head (sometimes included as a second head) is ideal: soft rollers excel at picking up fine dust and pretty much any size debris on hard floors, and they’re also fantastic for resisting tangles when cleaning pet hair. Soft roller attachments aren’t great on carpets, though, so some high-end cordless vacuums now use dual roller floor heads (pioneered by Shark’s DuoClean design) that combine a soft roller and a traditional brush in one unit to tackle both floor types in a single pass.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Recommended Cordless vacuum for hardwood floor house
April 5, 2024 -

Looking for a cordless vacuum for our house that is almost all hardwood floors. Some tile in there, and a good amount of rugs. Most important to me is something that won't leave scuff marks on the wood floors, and second that we don't need to switch attachments for the rugs. This will also be our primary vacuum, so something of high quality. Willing to spend what I need to if it's worth it.

Right now I'm leaning towards the dyson v12. It has a hardwood floor attachment, but I don't know if that will work at all on rugs. Is the normal attachment safe for wood? we don't want any micro scratches if possible.

The Dyson V12 is one of my favorite Dyson models due to its lightweight and small build while still being impressively powerful and full of features. I would describe its quality as high enough, as I would not say anything else from comparable brands such as LG and Samsung are any better in build. The Dysons are not perfect, but are at least fairly simple to repair and not all that prone to any specific failure points as long as proper maintenance is performed. The most common thing to make them stop working and come into my local vacuum cleaner shop where I have ties is users washing the filters and installing them when they are still wet. Of course, batteries do not last forever, but Dyson did alter their batteries to be easy to swap and add. The standard V12 comes with both the Fluffy Optic laser hard floor roller and a Motorbar universal head that works for carpet, so it should work completely fine for your rugs. The hard floor rollers of Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners are designed and tested to specifically float lightly and damage-free on hardwood floors, so as long as you are not sucking anything sharp or ridiculous into it with the hard floor roller, it should just dust them nicely. The hard floor roller spins really slowly and should not damage floors any more than a non-spinning hard floor brush moving back and forth. The Motorbar head is less gentle, so I would use the Fluffy Optic head for hardwood and change to the Motorbar head for the rugs. As for the V12 not being suited to be a primary vacuum cleaner, Dyson intends their models from the V10 and higher to be primary units and I have not seen any evidence to sway me in the opposite direction. People said the same garbage about cordless tools, but we all know how that turned out. Both cordless and corded tools can still have their place. I think some people forget that a large chunk of the world's population successfully cleans their floors with a broom or mechanical sweeper, so saying that a modern cordless vacuum cleaner from a reputable company is not able to stand up to the task is flat silly.

What is the best cordless vacuum?
We tried the LG cordless one from costco and hated it after a year. We have mostly laminate* flooring and it would just shoot particles everywhere instead of picking them up. Even quite small pieces it wouldn’t pick up and we ended up having to hand pick up small leaves and such. We recently picked up the dyson v10 and so far really enjoying it. It actually picks things up! More on reddit.com

Best Cordless Stick Vacuum (so far by brand)
Please avoid all Shark vacuums, they break more often, they are unrepairable, and their warranties exclude most of the parts. Dysons are above average for performance but they are more expensive and sell features that are flashy but don't improve cleaning ability. Example the laser sounds cool but an led headlight would work on both hard floors and carpets. Always look for removable and replaceable batteries because they all wear out in 2-5 years. Look for replacement parts, some of the Amazon brands have no replacements whatsoever. Among cordless stick vacuums I like the LG CordZero series and the Samsung Jet 75 and Jet 90. I don't recommend the dual brushroll versions as they add complexity, lack suction to the soft brushroll, and have a higher failure rate. If you have all or mostly carpets a cordless upright vacuum would be better such as the Hoover Onepwr Hepa Bagged/Oreck Hepa Cordless, Simplicity Freedom/Riccar Supralite, and Karcher Sensor BP 12.
