Which credit card issuer offers the best merchant offers?
Amex has a lot of mediocre offers, but when they have good ones they are typically pretty decent. I do like that you can filter by category, which makes it a little easier to find something useful.
Chase ones aren't too bad, but like you, I don't find myself using them too often. I wish there was a better way to sort and filter.
If you want something close to what Discover use to have, the Capital One shopping portal is pretty nice. It reminds me of Rakuten in a way. There isn't an easy way to sort, but there is a really nice and functional search utility. I just counted them, and there are currently 672 offers displayed right now. Odds are if you spend a minute or two searching you will find a discount you could use. Some of them are actually pretty decent (Apple 3% back, Gap 5% back, Hertz 8% back, and many more).

The best cash back credit card offer right now is for the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite Card, offering 10% cash back for the first four statements (up to $250 in cash back).
Which is the best credit card to start with?
The best credit card to start with depends on your financial situation. If you are a student or just got your first job, a great first credit card is the BMO CashBack Mastercard - Student, a no annual fee rewards credit card. This would also be a great card for your first job.
How many credit cards should I have?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to how many credit cards you should have. It's a matter of personal preference and financial responsibility. For many individuals, one or two well-managed credit cards are sufficient. However, if you can handle them responsibly and benefit from the rewards and benefits, having a few additional cards may make sense. Always monitor your credit usage and financial situation to make informed decisions about your credit card portfolio.
