I find the USA Today crosswords to be easier than the NYT Mondays! More on reddit.com

My grandma has similar limitations. She uses the NYT games app on a large iPad. The logo for the app is a crossword so it is easy to find. The app does have other games in it, but the crosswords are prominently at the top of the screen. The difficulty levels are Monday easiest with Saturday being the hardest and Sunday being a medium difficulty longer puzzle. You can do the archive back to 1993, so if he wants to stick to Monday puzzles that would be fine, he would just need to learn a few taps to navigate to these puzzles. My grandma uses a finger to touch the right letters but a stylus would work too. It is just easier for her to tap with arthritis. Additionally, she's still able to do all the difficulties of puzzles, but she does use Autocheck to make things easier. This is a game mode where it prominently highlights a letter as being incorrect if you enter the wrong letter. She is mostly still present and has a fantastic vocabulary but obviously names of young actors and such are definitely beyond her, so Autocheck makes the puzzles much more accessible to her. If NYT is too difficult, that is fine, I would look for apps aimed at kids that don't have ads. Not sure where to direct you for that but hopefully others have ideas. More on reddit.com

I would point you to https://www.7xwords.com , which is a cool project on its own. However, if you click into some of the puzzles, the descriptions often contain a link to more puzzles by the same author, many of which are outstanding! The number of indie puzzles floating around is an embarrassment of riches, especially during the pandemic. More on reddit.com
