I'm looking for any recommendations on a good digital piano for a more intermediate/advanced pianist on a strict budget as I'm really struggling with what direction to go in. I completed my RCM ARCT several years ago and sadly haven't played much since. I'm primarily interested in using the piano to play classical pieces and don't care much about recording functions etc.

I hoping to spend $1100 or less so I'm looking at a lot of used digital pianos. Ones that come up for sale a lot are Yamaha P115, Yamaha Arius YDP-142, Clavinova models from the 90s, Roland FP10 and Roland FP30x.

Any advice on a good model to look for second-hand or buy new if under $1100? Is it better to just save up for another couple years for a much nicer model?

Okay, I'm only going to give you feedback on the FP10 since it's the only one I own. it comes with a good keyboard, imo much better than the ones from yamaha (in that price range). The sound is garbage since it doesn't come with good speakers, but I think you can attach external ones (I've never bothered to try, I'd have to buy them first). That being said, I have access to acoustic pianos so it's not a big deal. I've been playing on it for a year at this point (I had -- I still have-- an upright but I needed to play during the night). Downside : you can only use the right pedal. There's one that comes in the box which is awful, and then there's another one like ~the ones that are in acoustic pianos (sold separately) that is pretty good. However if you want the three pedals you'll need to buy the upper models ( Roland FP30 and 90)

Best digital piano for advanced player?

High tier: Yamaha NU1X or 2, they have CFX action and mechanism (The concert grand piano), some professionals use them in their living spaces or for night practice. Same goes for Kawai Novus and CX. These two options might not be as portable as you want however the Yamaha NU1X is quite small in size but heavy. Second tier: For a “proper” keyboard with good action that does the job, some friends have Kawai CA, Roland FP-series, Yamaha Clavinovas, Kawai Portable, or Yamaha P-Series. I will research on the above mentioned. All of them will do the job and you can work Classical sonatas, Preludes and Fugues, and getting some Chopin etudes at a good level on them. My least favourite will be Yamaha P-series but still not bad since it is quite portable. I hope it helps. More on reddit.com
