Best type/kind of dog bed for new whippet?
My whippets have always love their cave beds, when a human bed was not available. However, anywhere there is a human bed or a sofa, that is the preferred spot.
Once, my husband did not want the whippets laying on our new sofa. He had a hilarious vision that he could keep it pristine. So, he bought a scat mat. A mat with an electrified top, so any dog landing on it would get a small shock ( it was powered by 9 volt batteries, so no chance of malfunction to over shock.)
We came home from work on the first day, to see 3 whippet noses sticking out from underneath the scat mat. They used it as a cover. lol.

I'm looking for the holy grail of dog beds. I'm tired of buying a new bed every 6 months (not cheap ones either). It's for my German Shepherd who is around 85lbs. Here's what I'm looking for:
- It has to have a removable, washable, waterproof cover. This is a must because my dog has gastro/acid reflux issues and will sometimes puke bile if his stomach is "empty" (crazy fast metabolism). I have to wash the cover like once a week and I want it to be waterproof so that the puke does not soak through onto whatever is inside. This is a must as well because it's almost impossible to wash the inside foams so if the cover is just some thick fabric it won't work. It has to keep the smells out of the foam.
- Single layer inside. Can't do the multi-foam layer stuff because my dog will dig at his bed when he's restless or throws a tantrum and separate the foam slices and they get all folded and scrunched up inside. Then he will lay on it for hours and cause a major crease that will never go back to its normal flat self again.
The last bed he had was totally waterproof but the cover did not come off. I would throw the whole thing into the washing machine until one day he dug so much the layers of foam separated and I had to cut a small slit and reach my arm in to straighten them back out. Since then he's just been making the hole bigger and the foams been coming out. Would love to find a bed for him that lasts at least a few years.
- Edit: I forgot to mention this bed is for his crate.

Update: Since I'm still getting comments and messages about this 5 months later, I decided to post an update. This is the bed that I ended up getting: https://a.co/d/7aRGjz2 (It's called Dogbed4less Extra Large Orthopedic Gel Infused Memory Foam Dog Bed). I purchased the XL size in Black Canvas and it fits perfectly in his crate. This bed came with a waterproof liner for the memory foam but I also purchased an additional waterproof liner that I can't find the link to but I just searched the dimensions of the bed and I remember it was pretty cheap. Since I have double lined the foam it does not smell AT ALL. Not even a little. This has been a godsend for us. Since we bought this bed I have only washed it a handful of times and it has stayed in tact and my dog has not managed to destroy it. The foam inside still smells brand new. I highly recommend this bed and the extra inner liner.
