I have an alpaca wool insert. I also love big fluffy blankets, but was struggling with temperature regulation and couldn't get down because of allergies. I spent a LOT of time searching on here. I was originally resistant to the alternatives to down/down alternative (silk, wool), but i freaking LOVE the alpaca wool insert. It is SO breathable. I didn't realize what I was missing. I couldn't go back to synthetic fibers because they just trap heat like crazy. It is definitely not as fluffy as down, but it is much fluffier than silk, it has nice weight, and i have layered it with nice cotton blankets. Someone else mentioned linen covers - I also have this on the insert, and think it helps quite a bit with breathability also. Answer from LittleEarthVisitor on reddit.com

Best BIFL Down alternative comforter?

If recommend looking at wool blankets. Many are BIFL.They’re both hypo allergenic and anti fungal if you have mold issues.

It’s not a comforter though. I’m interested on other responses as a guy who lives in Renton. From my experience washing comforters destroys them over time. Good luck.

Never posted here before but my girlfriend only wants ONE thing for Christmas: a heavy, ultra-fluffy down comforter and I can’t let her…”down”.
Do your homework. Nearly all the retail sellers are trying to get you to buy lower quality at higher prices. If they aren’t giving full specs (fill power, amount, grade, place of origin, percentage of down vs feather) then assume the worst. And then the ones that do (US and Canada) are probably way overpriced. Check out: Supreme Quilts . Read the page on the various levels of downs. The US sized comforters are probably the best value, bar none. They offer different amounts of fill depending on desired warmth. Full transparency, top quality, low prices. I have bought from them. I bought 95% White Polish goose down because I think that’s the value. More on reddit.com

Best down alternative comforter for a warm climate
Down alternative is polyfill - fibers made of plastic - which is not breathable and will sleep hot. You can get a lightweight duvet/comforter with down alternative fill, and hope for the best. If you want to sleep cooler, you can get lightweight duvets filled with cotton, silk, or wool. Yes, wool will sleep cooler than polyfill, because as a natural fiber, it breathes well. Cover any of these with a cotton percale or linen duvet cover and you should feel pretty good. I personally went for a lightweight washable wool duvet insert from Woolroom, which I've had for just over a week now. I sleep extremely hot, but with my room temp set appropriately (and/or my BedJet running), I'm not sweating to death under the covers. I kind of feel like I've got a light cloud on top of me. I love it. Good luck finding what makes your bed dreamy! :) More on reddit.com

r/Bedding on Reddit: Anyone have a truly plush down alternative comforter that sleeps cool?
September 19, 2024 -

My title probably covered it all. No matter how low I turn my AC, I wake up sweating. My current comforter and duvet aren't great and I think both have polyester.

I'm an animal lover and can't support down or feather but I really miss the super plush company store down comforters my best friend had when we were kids. Basically I'd like it as plush as possible but not hot.

Does anyone have something like this that they can recommend?

For cold winter nights, we recommend medium to extra-warmth weights so you stay cozy. Often, people who prefer less insulation favor a lightweight down alternative comforter with a breathable cotton shell that keeps moisture out and cool air circulating. For hot sleepers, a down alternative comforter paired with a cooling mattress pad and temperature-regulating sheets promotes restful sleep on summer nights.

They’re also a more hypoallergenic option because they don’t trap allergens like dust mites and pollen like traditional down comforters can. Lyocell is a semi-synthetic fiber that is a form of rayon composed primarily of cellulose derived from wood pulp. It is a naturally biodegradable fiber that is manufactured in an efficient, eco-conscious process, making it a sustainable alternative to synthetic fibers like polyester.
