I’ve been researching for MONTHS (embarrassing, I know) but I’m on the hunt for a luxurious, poofy, fluffy and lofty goose down comforter that’s not too hot. Tomorrow is Black Friday and with the sales coming, it’s going to be time for me to pull the trigger. So many comforters online say they’re luxurious and lofty but the customer photos show them as flat, pancake looking things. I’ve considered Pacific Coast Feathers, Macys Hotel Collection, Cuddledown and a few more. I was considering the Company Store but I read they were bought out and the quality isn’t as good as it used to be. I’d like to spend no more than $300-$350. Can anyone give any recommendations? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
My title probably covered it all. No matter how low I turn my AC, I wake up sweating. My current comforter and duvet aren't great and I think both have polyester.
I'm an animal lover and can't support down or feather but I really miss the super plush company store down comforters my best friend had when we were kids. Basically I'd like it as plush as possible but not hot.
Does anyone have something like this that they can recommend?

EDIT TO UPDATE: We didn’t find the exact peach-skin one we were searching for, but DID find two very nice comforters from Amazon that fit what we wanted! The “WhatsBedding All Season Feather Down Comforter” in oversized king grey was very nice, but it was just too much feather and not enough down for us, and it made it very heavy, but for winter months and cold sleepers it might be great! The Egyptian Cotton Factory Store’s “Luxurious Goose Down Feather Fiber Comforter” in the pinch-pleat black design in the size oversized palatial king is the one that arrived today and we are over the moon with so far. It says it takes several days to puff up without using a dryer (which I want to give it a few days anyways, and then we will likely take it to a laundromat as the included instructions recommend), but so far, it is soft enough for both of us to be happy and it has multiple reviews of happy customers using it without a cover for years at a time, which makes me feel safer with it. I’m very excited, I’ll update if it doesn’t go well, but those two would be my recommendations if you’re looking for something like I’ve described in my original post. Thanks so much for everyone’s help!
ORIGINAL POST:
We're looking to spend maybe up to $200 to get an actually soft Down Comforter for our California King size bed.
My boyfriend and I each had twin and queen size down comforters growing up (both born in late 90s), mine had dark blue on the top and light blue on the other side, and his had dark purple on top and light purple on the other side. We still have them, and they are very soft and I believe the cover is made of microfiber, but the tags are gone off both of them so we can't locate where they're from.
We hit JCPenney, Kohl's, Costco, At Home, Target, Walmart, etc. and just found white, plastic-y ones that, while the inside felt good and fluffy, the outside felt like tough, tarp or plastic material. I finally gave in and ordered one on Amazon that feels less like plastic, but is still very loud and not as soft as our other ones that we are trying to replicate. We even tried washing and drying it as the reviews recommended, and it hasn't changed the texture at all.
Anyone have any idea where to find a Down comforter that we can invest in that is actually soft on the outside? And hopefully not white? (we don't plan to put a cover on it right away)
I’ve searched tons of threads and was looking at Costco’s Downlite hotel & resort Hungarian white goose comforter, but it seems too light for her. She’s perpetually cold and I want super fluffy and less flat. Then I found Feathered Friends’ Bavarian 700, but it’s out of stock 😭 I don’t feel like Ikea or Amazon brands would be top-tier quality? I’d prefer not to spend more than $500 for a king but will spend up to $1k if it’s worth it.
Is it better to stuff two duvets in one cover, and if so, anyone have good experience with this method with specific brands? I just want her to be comfy for the winter and years beyond. She just had several uncomfortable surgeries.
Last question, are down alternatives as comfy as down comforters themselves? She won’t care what’s in it if it’s gloriously comfortable.
Please help me out if you can, any suggestions and firsthand experiences are greatly appreciated 🙏🏼 I’m definitely not a bedding aficionado
Yall got any comforter recommendations?
So I’ve been searching for a nice down comforter for the past month and I can’t seem to figure out how to choose. Some brands I’ve found are feathered friends, plumeria bay, company store, and pacific coast feather.
The issue in finding is none of these brands clearly state whether or not they use Chinese construction and just fill the comforters themselves, they also seem to lack detail as to the fill type and amount.
Anyone here have input as to how to pick a good brand for a comforter?
Hiya! Wondering if anyone can recommend a good comforter for my partner and I? We originally loved the feel of the MUJI comforter but they haven’t restocked their comforters in weeks and we can find anywhere to buy one. We are looking for something very soft that also works well for my partner who is a very hot sleeper! Any recommendations will be very appreciated! :))
I’m shopping for a new king size down comforter and wondering if anyone has found the perfect one to put in a duvet.. IKEA made one a while back that was fluffy, the perfect weight, and didn’t make any crinkle noises. They discontinued it for whatever reason, so I’m looking for something similar. I’d like it to be soft, mid-weight, very puffy, and relatively noise-less. I live in Southern California so not extra warm.
Any ideas?
Hey guys! I've searched and it seems like LL Bean is the top recommendation for down comforters for a lot of people here. The one I'm looking at would run me just under $300. I was also looking at a cheaper brand from bed bath and beyond: Real Simple Down. What do you guys think? Is goose down really worth 3x the price?
Thanks for your help!
So I just bought a new bed and I’m finally able to make my floofy dream cloud come true.
However, all the comforter/quilt/duvet inserts I’ve looked at look like sad, pathetic, gangly slices of depression and I would really love to be able to jump onto cotton candy and fucking sunshine!!
Does anyone know how I can achieve this? I don’t care about it being warm or what it’s made of I would just like it to be crazy fluffy and soft.
Thanks!
I’m search of a great, FLUFFY comforter for cold winters. Mine (which was $200 on sale) lasted two years before the filling started moving around. Tennis balls in the dryer and fluffing it myself didn’t work. The entire area that I usually sleep under on my side of the bed has completely lost it’s filling. (See photo- with the light shining above it, you can see the left side has lost it’s filling compared to areas around it). I realize it may happened a little, but this is ridiculous. Need a fluffy, warm comforter that won’t do that.
I hate my duvet/cover scenario. I want a really wonderful, 1-piece comforter. Machine washable, please. Under $300 for a King would be ideal.
I can run hot but I also love a little weight on me. I’ve been eyeing Quince comforters but will take any recs. Thank you!
EDIT: To clarify — one piece means I don’t want a duvet + insert. Just a comforter… or maybe a quilt since some of those ideas are sounding good.
Hi there, I'm a broke college student living at home that desperately needs to upgrade her bedding situation. I'm looking for a down comforter (or down alternative) that won't break the bank. I looked up Feathered Friends because I saw a lot of people suggesting that but I cannot afford a 400$ comforter. My range is from 100$ and under....I don't really know if there's many options for that. I'm also looking for something fluffy, like as fluffy as I can afford. Thanks!!
Title! I sleep cold and live in a poorly insulated house and cold climate. I love a super lofty warm down comforter, but it's not great for my allergies. Any suggestions? I have a Buffy all season comforter right now (I know, I know - it was gifted), and it isn't nearly warm enough.
EDIT: for anyone lurking, I decided to get a second comforter (I'm thinking L.L Bean) and put it in the same duvet cover as my Buffy one (doubling up!)
Hello! I am looking for a new down comforter. My partner and I are somewhat hot sleepers who like to cuddle and keep our home at night at 65F or below year round either through AC or turning off the heat in winter (we obviously don’t keep it at 65 in the daytime). We use a duvet cover. We use percale sheets in warmer months and bamboo rayon sheets in winter (we find them warm).
Here are the options I'm considering:
The Company Store Legends Hotel Alberta, $329/351, 600-650 fill down, baffle construction Light or Medium??
The Company Store Legends Hotel Black Label, $344/366, 600-650 fill down, baffle construction, european down, Light or Medium?
The Company Store Legends Luxury Royal Down, $501/591, 700-750 fill down, baffle construction, Hungarian white goose down, Light or Medium?
Feathered Friends Bavarian 700 Down, $489/$519, Summer or Light?, 700+ fill Eastern European white goose down, sewn through construction
Feathered Friends Baffled Box 700 Down, $569, Medium, 700+ fill Eastern European white goose down, baffle construction
Any advice very appreciated!
Edit: ok. I use and have used down my whole life. I do not want anything else. I like how it feels. We don’t currently have any issues. I’m trying to replace a very old hand me down comforter I’ve repaired multiple times that’s lost a lot of feathers and is falling apart due to holes. I’m not interested in suggestions for alternatives because I’m already familiar with them and they aren’t what I want. We don’t sweat at night. We don’t get too hot most of the time with our current set up.
Been doing a lot of research into the best down bedding companies. Was hoping for some input on those that dug even deeper into this rabbit hole. The companies I have narrowed it down to are below:
Feathered Friends: Looks to be the highest quality on a reasonable budget. This company solely focuses on down too, which means it should rather high quality for the reputation.
Brooklinen: This was the first company I went with. I fell for their marketing but have no complaints. I got their lightweight model and it made me fall in love with down. However, it did get ruined in a move and looking for an upgrade.
Pacific Coast: Looks to be a pretty popular brand for Hotels. However, they do not offer those same pillows to the public. People have claimed the ones from Costco are still great quality though. There are a few videos online but very limited.
The Company Store: Appears to be another company with similar quality as Pacific Coast. These two are seemingly at the same high level of quality.
Has anyone had any experience with these pillows and comforters? I am struggling to pull the trigger. Want to be sure I am getting what I pay for. Not trying to overspend but neither am I trying to underspend. I want to spend under $1000 for 2 queen pillows and a queen comforter. I have seen many companies like Parachute, Brooklinen, Casper, Etc. significantly over market. Hard to find actual people’s opinions on these products. This is nothing like the technical field I come from. Would appreciate any and all input.
Thanks!
Looking for a very soft, down alternative comforter. Preferably 100% cotton but definitely no plastic.
Hello! So as the seasons are changing and the heat has yet to be turned on in my apartment (although this is my first winter living in this place and I've heard it's pretty cold even with the heat on), I'm looking for some good options on how to stay warm and toasty this New England winter. I've seen that down comforters work but I searched Amazon and the results that are in my budget ($50-$150) are few and far in between...I've also heard that heated mattress pads are very effective.
So my question is if anyone knows of any specific down comforters that will really give me a good bang for my buck, or if I should skip the cheap option and invest in a good one. Also if you guys think I could get away with the heated mattress pad and a few blankets or should I combine the pad and comforter?
Thanks for your help! This is my first time living in a place with inadequate heating/young peeps trying to save money, and if I'm already cold in 50 degree weather I know it's gonna be bad!
EDIT: Thanks so much for all the great responses! Seems to be the general consensus is IKEA comforter+electric blanket and that's exactly what I'm going to go for! A couple days ago I got an electric blanket from Target for $60 bucks and it is indeed magical. It got down to the 40's one night -heat is still not on in the house- and I was perfectly warm with the electric blanket and a thick blanket placed over it.
It's a bit of a trek for me to get to my nearest IKEA but I do plan on getting out there and getting the down comforter before the sub-zero temps kick in. Thanks again guys!
I'm looking to buy a new comforter/ duvet cover/ bedding set on amazon. I have a few amazon gift cards so that's why I'm specifically looking on there. My last comforter was a bed-in-a-bag that I bought for college so I'm looking for something a little nicer than that. Anyone buy one recently that they like?
my favorite so far [is this one:] (https://www.amazon.com/Ink-Ivy-Blake-3-Piece-Comforter/dp/B00BZMUX5Y/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8#HLCXComparisonWidget_feature_div)
Duvet:
I have this Duvet Set/Pillow covers in two colors. I have received quite a few compliments on how great they feel from overnight guests. Still holding up after about 2 years of use.

Sheets:
I have one set of these and I'm a huge fan of them. They get softer after a few uses, but feel extremely solid. Thick. But they don't really make me sweat even during the summer. Like stated in the reviews, they do shrink quite a bit during the first washing.

Used this set in the past. They are ok but for the small price difference I would go with the other set. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q7OE3VA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Comforter:
As for something to put inside the cover, I've been pretty happy with this guy.

Also sheets. Anyone have good recommendations on a good set of sheets that are quality but cheaper than you'd find in-store (also on amazon).
