I was also sleeping hot and made some significant changes to my bed. I love my memory mattress just for the comfort. So, I bought a wool mattress topper, cotton percale sheets, a silk duvet and use either a cotton or cotton/linen duvet cover. We also have a wool duvet that my husband seems to like more than the silk but doesn’t really care. I truly believe that using natural instead of synthetic materials has made a huge difference. Goose down comforter that’s actually fluffy, lofty and lightweight?
No shame at all the number of hours I’ve lost trying to find something that actually lives up to the word “lofty” is ridiculous lol If you're still looking, try this one: it’s baffle box construction, real goose down (not feather blends), 700+ fill power, and it actually holds up.You're totally right to not trust photos too in my experience. I can just offer you some advice here: the good ones usually have baffle box construction (not just stitched-through), 700+ fill power, and don’t try to pass off feather blends as goose down try this, I’m sure it will hold up for you too. Down Comforter for Hot Sleeper
The truth is that if you sleep hot and you don't keep your room temps on the much colder side then even the lightest down fill insert will overheat you. There are die-hard down fans and I can totally respect that and see the appeal, truly. But most of those die-hard down fans don't live in hot climates or they tend to keep their room temps well below 74F. Down and wool are insulating materials first and foremost, so anyone claiming that they can cool you down is fudging the facts greatly. At best wool is moisture wicking so it will keep your temps in a sort of 'neutral-zone' but it won't cool you down. Down is worse in the sense that it doesn't even wick moisture, it just insulates mostly. If you want a cooler option then a mostly feather-filled insert will do better at keeping you cool, but 100% down or a high percentage of down will not do you any favors if you sleep hot. If you absolutely have to have 100% down then getting the lightest fill in ounces that you can get and keeping your room at cooler temps is probably about the best you can do, sorry :( More on reddit.com

Anyone have a truly plush down alternative comforter that sleeps cool?
I have an alpaca wool insert. I also love big fluffy blankets, but was struggling with temperature regulation and couldn't get down because of allergies. I spent a LOT of time searching on here. I was originally resistant to the alternatives to down/down alternative (silk, wool), but i freaking LOVE the alpaca wool insert. It is SO breathable. I didn't realize what I was missing. I couldn't go back to synthetic fibers because they just trap heat like crazy. It is definitely not as fluffy as down, but it is much fluffier than silk, it has nice weight, and i have layered it with nice cotton blankets. Someone else mentioned linen covers - I also have this on the insert, and think it helps quite a bit with breathability also. More on reddit.com

What Is The Best Material For A Cooling Comforter?
There is no one best material for a cooling comforter, but there are a few that stand out as being the most desirable. Lightweight comforters made using down, silk, lyocell, bamboo viscose and cotton percale are all good choices. “Linen and cotton fabrics are more breathable and allow for a cooling effect, which is better if you run warm,” Dr. Abbasi-Feinberg says.

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Goose down comforter that’s actually fluffy, lofty and lightweight?
November 28, 2024 -

I’ve been researching for MONTHS (embarrassing, I know) but I’m on the hunt for a luxurious, poofy, fluffy and lofty goose down comforter that’s not too hot. Tomorrow is Black Friday and with the sales coming, it’s going to be time for me to pull the trigger. So many comforters online say they’re luxurious and lofty but the customer photos show them as flat, pancake looking things. I’ve considered Pacific Coast Feathers, Macys Hotel Collection, Cuddledown and a few more. I was considering the Company Store but I read they were bought out and the quality isn’t as good as it used to be. I’d like to spend no more than $300-$350. Can anyone give any recommendations? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

I finally tried the Buffy comforter and… yeah, its amazing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FPRBMVP Okay so I’ve seen people talk about this Buffy comforter forever and I finally grabbed one on sale — figured worst case I’d return it. But this thing?? Legit might be the best “treat yourself” purchase I’ve made in years. Here’s the quick rundown: ✅ Soft AF right out of the bag — no weird chemical smell, just that light eucalyptus scent that fades fast ✅ Lightweight but still warm — doesn’t trap heat or make me sweaty ✅ Feels expensive without being heavy like a brick ✅ Sleep quality upgrade is real — I’m actually struggling to get out of bed now ✅ Eco-friendly filling + recycled materials (nice bonus, not the main reason I bought it) ✅ Pet hair doesn’t stick which is wild (dog owners = you get it) ✅ No duvet needed tbh — fabric is so smooth it feels like its own cover If you're a “run hot at night” person — this is that perfect middle ground. It keeps you warm but lets heat escape so you don’t wake up sweaty and angry at 3am. Also: it fluffs up FAST . It comes all compressed in a pizza-box looking package, opens up, and just poof — full marshmallow mode in minutes. One year in, people say it actually gets softer over time, so that’s a win. Final verdict: If your current comforter feels like sleeping under a wet towel or a heavy moving blanket from U-Haul… upgrade.
