Recommendations for hand vacuums?

Is a handheld vacuum worth it?
A handheld vacuum's main purpose is spot cleaning small messes and reaching areas where a larger vacuum cleaner can't go -- a handheld vac is easier to store and to grab at a moment's notice. It can handle many light- and medium-duty tasks, like cleaning crumbs off the kitchen table, dusting frames and shelves, and touching up a car seat.

What's the downside of a handheld vacuum?
Though a cordless handheld vacuum is a worthwhile addition to your cleaning arsenal, it won't replace the full-size vacuum you use for your floors. It's not ideal for removing a ton of dirt or deep-cleaning a high-pile carpet. Remember, convenience is the biggest reason to buy a handheld vac, not cleaning power.

What is a good weight for a handheld vacuum?
Most handheld vacuums weigh between 1.5 and 4 pounds. With handheld vacs, the lighter they are, the better, and lighter models are easier to handle but are likely to be weaker at suction or have shorter battery life. Heavier models are usually more powerful but can tire you out during cleaning. You can find the sweet spot between 2 and 3 pounds, depending on your usage.

Hello, I recently got a job at a dealership, cleaning their loaner cars, and I'm looking for recommendations on a handheld vacuum to clean small messes and get into tight corners. That don't really need the big shop vac.

Congrats on your new job. Handheld vacuums under $50 are pretty useless, they have weak suction, tiny bins, and an extremely short run time. They usually have no cyclonic separation so all of the dirt immediately clogs the filter. You need at least a Dyson V8 sized handheld with multiple cyclones for decent suction power and filtration but I still hesitate to recommend a cordless handheld because using it for work will wear out the battery really fast. I would choose a small corded vacuum with a hose to get into tight corners like the Hoover Commerical Portapower $159 or Simplicity S100 Sport $179. And I wouldn't use a big shop vacuum for the heavy cleaning I'd use a better quieter vacuum like the Powr-Flite Newton with Turbo Brush $175. The Newton is much quieter than a shop vac, it uses large and cheap hepa bags. I'd get the version with the Turbo Brush since it's not that much more than the standard Newton. The Turbo brush can connect to the wand or directly to the hose and it will help you clean floor mats and carpeting. It's not a wet/dry vacuum but they should buy a proper extractor if they want you to shampoo the interiors. You can save a lot by looking for a used Hoover or Simplicity vacuums too. Metro Vac makes some very compact and durable canister vacuums like the Vac 'N Blo Jr and Data Vac, I always see several used that are under $100. The best deals on cordless vacuum I could find are the Hoover Onepwr DustChaser $94, the Hoover Onepwr Hand Vac $99, maybe the Hyper Tough 1.5 gallon Wet/Dry Cordless Vacuum with battery & charger $84. What do you think?

what's the best cordless handheld vacuum these days? the cheaper the better if it actually works. mainly need it for tight spots in my car (between seats, cupholders, etc), so a crevice tool and decent suction would be huge. would be ideal if it charges fast and has a washable filter. what are you all using that wont die after a year?
EDIT: I ended up going with the Ryobi One+, and I'm pretty happy with it. Its surprisingly powerful for the size and the battery life is quite good too. thanks for the suggestions!

April 16, 2024 - In our testing, even the strongest cordless vacuums still trail good corded models for deep carpet cleaning – on average, a cordless vac will remove around 93% of embedded dirt from carpet, whereas corded uprights average about 98% in the same test. That said, any of the best cordless vacuums will have more than enough suction for everyday debris on floors.

What's the best Dustbuster
June 17, 2018 - With two large Labs, the amount of dog hair is staggering, plus dirt depending on camp site. It sucks up hair and debris well off the floor and inside storage areas. I run it across the throw rugs in the trailer but it's hard to tell how much is sucked up. It's so much more powerful than my old Dustbuster.
