I know my best friend on R/Bedding @sorcerer will till you single ply is what you want. That may be true though most of the highest quality cotton comes in 2-4 ply (probably because people associate thinness with quality). If the quality of the cotton is good, don’t worry about the ply. This is important. You state “100% Egyptian cotton”. That statement doesn’t actually mean anything because anything grown in Egypt can be considered Egyptian cotton. Anything from the worlds best Giza 45 to some ultra shit quality cotton . What you want is “extra long staple” cotton or long staple if that’s all you’re willing to spend. Do you know if the cover is sateen or percale? A quick google search will explain sateen is usually softer and more silk like with a slight sheen, while percale is cooler and crisp. A 400 thread count is sufficient, though a 300 thread count of Giza 45 is infinitely better than a shit quality 800 thread count. So you need to figure out the quality of cotton (if possible). Sorcerer is a big fan of Malouf’s supima and Peacock Alley’s soprano. They’re more budget options but they’re still not cheap, especially compared to what you paid. If you like what you have, keep it! Answer from PhotographSad7561 on reddit.com

r/Bedding on Reddit: What's the best duvet cover material and properties?
March 27, 2023 -

I just bought a 400 thread count, single ply, 100% Egyptian cotton duvet cover for about £30. Bang for buck that seems like the best I could find. After some research, that's what I concluded to be the best but I've found people on this sub to be more knowledgeable than me on the subject. Did I make a good buy? How much better can it get than that?

People also ask

What is a duvet cover used for?
A duvet cover can be used for a few things; first off, it can simplify the cleaning and maintenance of one's bedding. Cleaning a duvet cover is much easier than cleaning a fluffy comforter; the majority of duvet covers can be easily thrown in the washer and dryer at home, while many comforters require a dry cleaner. Second, duvet covers can be used to change the style and look of one's bed and bedroom; if someone wants to adjust the color scheme of their bedroom, it is a simple task to switch out one's current duvet cover.

Can a duvet cover be used on a comforter?
The short answer is yes! A comforter can be used as a duvet insert, and a duvet cover will easily slip over most comforters. What's more, many comforters feature duvet tabs at their corners so that they might be secured within a duvet cover.

Linen is a durable material that can last for years if cared for properly. It is also hypoallergenic and naturally repels bacteria, making it a great choice for those with sensitive skin. However, it requires special care to avoid shrinkage and wrinkles. Cotton is also durable but may not last as long as linen.
