Brooklinen makes some great sets, but quite a lot are returned cuz of shrinkage or the fabric getting scratchy over time (major ick) For cotton-linen blends, I’d recommend California Design Den or Sijo. Parachute has a nice relaxed look but can be high maintenance and tends to wrinkle heavily. Coyuchi is solid if you want something organic, but their king sizes tend to run a bit snug after a few washes. I’ve seen the most consistent feedback on California Design Den (linking it cuz its a little nicher ig). Its super soft out of the package and holds up well, full shade to brooklinen. All three are reasonably priced and feel higher-end than some of the bigger brand offerings in the same bracket. They also tend to last longer before you see pilling or thread fray. For washing, I usually suggest cold water, gentle detergent, and low tumble dry or hang dry if possible. Avoid fabric softeners or bleach both mess with the finish. If you like a crisper look, toss in a dryer ball or two to soften without chemicals Answer from BluwulfX on reddit.com

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Looking for good sheets/duvet/duvet covers OR comforters… BIFL bedding?!
May 24, 2020 -

Looking to upgrade our bedding. We always buy some pretty cheap comforters or duvets and duvet covers and they always seem to get worn out so quickly and become less comfortable.

Looking for the best sheets, best comforter OR duvet + duvet cover.. even pillows thrown in there if someone knows of some really great ones. I get that this kinda stuff can’t really be BIFL and do need to be replaced eventually but I’m looking for something that will last! I’m in Canada by the way so looking for stuff that I can find here or ships here.

Thanks in advance!

I am in the process of changing my bedding, and upgrading from a Queen to King. I went down the rabbit hole and got some sheet, mattress, pillow etc. Gosh, it was a very fun

Now I am trying to find a good duvet cover, do you all have recommendations? Budget is around 200-250, willing to spend a little more if the product is really great.

I got my duvet cover from pottery barn https://www.potterybarn.com/shop/bedding/duvet-covers-shams/ I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives, but at least everything from them seems to be good quality. I went with a 100% cotton one from the winter selection that went on clearance a while back and im pretty happy with it. [edit] they still have it, but not in the color that i bought it in. https://www.potterybarn.com/products/stewart-plaid-duvet-cover-shams-multi/ only white is left but not bad for 80$

So the duvet that I use currently has been leaking feathers for months and my ocd has had enough. I've been researching different duvets for weeks and I am exhausted. It seems that basically every duvet that I've come across online has at least a few bad reviews. I just want a quality duvet that regulates temperature well (I'm a hot sleeper), DOESN'T leak filling, and doesn't shift all over the place inside the duvet cover. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!!!

January 30, 2018 - But my new favorite duvet is one that comes in two layers -- you use a single layer for summer and then snap the two layers together for winter. Clever and economical! Mine is Woolrich, purchased online maybe six years ago. ... Great recommendations here. ... I've had an ll bean down comforter for about 5 years now along with the flannel covers.

I hate to ask such a trivial question on here. But going out shopping is a nightmare for me, allergies, anxiety, the works.

Hoping for something thick, fluffy and heavy without being too warm. (I know thats an oxymoron, but ya..)

I used to love ikea duvets but bought one recently and its weak. Maybe i had the winter one before... they just all seem a bit flimsy.

I also asked people on reddit for reccomends online, searched far and wide, but amazon had little to offer, and a lot of the best replies i got were in the US.

Duvet cover is just as important, again, not impressed with ikea’s current line up. Ya gotta have that thick material but still breathable.

Just hoping you guys can help me so i can physically go into one store for 20 minutes, find something and escape.

Lately I have been surprised to see duvet covers can rival the price of a mid-range down comforter.

I’m wondering the difference between a basic cotton duvet cover, and the fancy one. They’re both cotton at the end of the day right?

Basic: https://www.pacificcoast.com/basic-duvet-cover/MV-37332.html

Fancy: https://www.frette.com/en_US/one-bourdon-duvet-cover.html?dwvar_one-bourdon-duvet-cover_color=Ivory-Ivory&dwvar_one-bourdon-duvet-cover_size=Queen&quantity=1

r/Bedding on Reddit: In Need of a New Duvet Cover!!

I'm looking for a new duvet cover for my down-filled king size duvet insert. My current cover is the softest I've ever felt, but it has a few rips from years of heavy use (college, camping trips etc.).

My top priority is softness that is cost effective. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars but don't want to sacrifice quality either so somewhere around $100-$200 would be ideal. I like solid colors that wash easily and I'm leaning away from linen. There are so many companies with 'great reviews' but it's hard to tell when ordering online. I pull the duvet up to my face when I sleep, so this thing has got to be SOFT :)

Please provide your tried-and-true recommendations. Temperature isn't a huge concern since the insert is down. Thanks!!

At $100-200 you are absolutely sacrificing quality, just so you know. This industry is one where it’s true that you have to spend to get serious quality. However, what you want is a cotton cover with a sateen weave to give you the most softness. Stick to long or extra long staple cotton if you can find it. If it’s woven in Italy or Portugal that’s a good sign as they typically do the best. If it’s constructed in a western country (USA, Canada, Italy etc) that’s good too, though some quality brands still use places like the Philippines so don’t let that be a deciding factor. Frette, Sferra, Matouk, St. Geneve, and Schlossberg make some of the best in the world and they offer products at different price points. All of the brands I mentioned can be purchased for 10-15% discounts on websites like FineLinens.com I also know Bloomingdale’s and Linen supply are having 20-25% off deals and most places price match. I personally use Sferra. IF you want to buy a St. Geneve product, buy from a Canadian retailer like these to save money since their currency is worth less than ours. https://www.tmasc.ca/collections/duvet-covers-bedding-sets-canada All other brands should be purchased from America. The more you spend the nicer it will be. Two lower budget brands that I’ve heard offer decent quality are malouf which offers a Supima collection that’s supposed to be soft, or peacock alley. Hope you find what you’re looking for!

I am going to be upgrading my comforter to another comforter or duvet.

Was thinking it may be worth it to splurge on a nice percale duvet cover and just buying an averaged priced duvet/comforter.

Curious to hear what others think about spending more on the cover rather than the actual duvet/comforter itself...

December 28, 2023 - I think they want the cover. Not the insert. Continue this thread ... I get mine at Ikea. I have some that are over ten years old and still look great. ... I was going to say IKEA. I had bought an incredibly expensive down filled duvet from JC Penny and it leaked so many feathers my room was covered in them.

Since BBB has closed, I'm not really sure where to look. Today I went to the Bay (iffy selection , associates not so knowledgeable). Quilts ETC, pricey but knowledgeable, had some bedding from them before but had problems with duvet bleeding colour when washed as per instructions of the associate. Homesense and Marshall’s alot of mis matches, poor selection of sheets and comforters. Is there some hidden gem I am missing? I just want something luxuriously soft and cool (temperature) to crawl into at the end of the day. I miss the selection and one stop shop of BBB. Budget isn't a concern and looking to turn my bed more into a comfy "luxury hotel" like experience. Plus have an animal and cheap sheets tend to attract hair more than higher end sheets, in my experience.
