I've had the v11 and v15. They are pretty similar. The v15 has slightly more suction. Anything from the v11 up will keep you happy. For me the main advantage is once you wall mount the dock in a central location for the house, (in my case it is in the hall linen cupboard) it just comes down to the convenience. You see dirt on the floor, you grab the vacuum and clean it up in real time. When I had a larger corded vacuum the barrier to cleaning was the effort to get it out and plugged in. The advantage of the Dyson over other cordless vacuums is the quality of the cleaning. Both the carpet and hard floor heads get right up against the skirting boards and remove everything. Another nicety is that there is a massive ecosystem of cheep spare parts and extra adapters. I mounted an attachment dock on the wall to hold all the extra heads etc (keeps things neat). The only real downside is the initial price. I agree that they are overpriced but I have so many friends that have got Dyson's and none of them regret their decision. The trick is work out what models you would like and then wait for one of them to come on sale. I just upgraded to a v15 with the mop attachment (fully backwards compatible with all my v11 attachments) and picked it up on sale down from €890 to €550. They seem to do major discounts fairly regularly (at leat in Australia). Answer from cat2devnull on reddit.com

In the market for a Dyson and ONLY a dyson. I’ve had one of their roomba type models before (the robo vac situation) and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, it got severely damaged during my move so I wanna buy another. Thing is, I’m not sure the roomba style is the best for this house, there’s a lot of furniture close together, it’s not as open a space. Looking for a cordless vac cos I love Dyson’s quality but there’s lots of different options so i’m kinda overwhelmed. The space is kinda cramped and there’s a lot of dust in Arizona so need something that I can maneouver around easily and has insane suction. Any reccs?

TL;DR

Have never used a dyson vacuum before. Want to get one.

V8 in my country costs around 400 euros, V10 is 530, V11 is 610, V12 Detect Slim is 650, and V15 Detect is 760.

I can afford any of them, but so far, I don't see the value of buying a 600-700 euro vacuum (maybe since I have never used one, lol). Should I start with the basic V8 to understand if it is worth it, or should I spend a little more and get a better model? Also, are there any models that are generally bad?

Update: I have come across this article on list of top Dyson cordless vacuum and it helped a lot. Thanks everybody.

Looking to finally grab a Dyson cordless but I’m lost in all the versions (V8, V10, V11, V15, etc.). Mostly hardwood + a couple rugs, need good battery life and suction for pet hair.

Are the newer models (V11, V15, Gen5) really that much better or is something like the V8/V10 still solid? Prices are steep, so I don’t want to overpay for hype.

If you have got one, which model do you swear by? Or is there a non Dyson that beats them?

Here are the deals I see today (dec 2024), There are way to many models that cost basically the same amount and I just can't tell the difference between the models.

Use Cases: Convivence, hardwood, some low pile carpet: We also have a plugin vacuum, small handheld vacuum and a little green vacuum so it doesn't need to do everything.

Dyson Outsize Extra - $399 (Costco)

Dyson V15 Detect - $499

Dyson V11 Extra - $399

Dyson V8 Absolute - $299

Dyson V12 Detect Slim - $399

Dyson currently doing 10% off via Rakuten, applies to all models except the Outsize.

We want to buy a good, big, handheld vacuum, Dyson seems like the obvious choice. Only drawback is the price, for us, buying it would be an investment. We've looked at many reviews and there doesn't seem to be any one answer, some break down in two years, some never had a problem for multiple years, some can get destroyed by sucking up even just a little bit of water. So is a Dyson really worth it? We'd much rather get one for 500$, not a 700$. But if we do that, will it break down easily after a year or two or will it last at least four years?

I'm sorry if I'm missing anything obvious, it's the first time in many years that were buying a vacuum, let alone a Dyson, an area that we have zero prior experience with

Hey,
I'm planning to get my very first cordless vacuum cleaner, because my regular vacuum cleaner is just taking up too much space and effort to use it. I'm also planning to get a pet so I'd need to use it much more often than now. I've always heard Dyson is the king of this category and I'm willing to pay the premium if it really last long and can find spare parts even after years of usage. Also heard about the Xiaomi Mi G10 as an alternative. What's your opinion?

Pardon the non-applicable responses on here. Your situation is perfectly normal and it sounds as if a cordless unit would make sense in your space. Due to the batteries, a cordless vacuum cleaner is not necessarily the best thing in terms of longevity, although most companies now are offering units with batteries that are designed to be swapped by the user. Still, just like a laptop or cell phone, they will degrade over time and eventually need to be replaced. I assume most people go into buying a cordless vacuum cleaner with that knowledge, though. Dyson is surely a leader in cordless design, with their models such as the V15, Outsize, and even the V15 Slim boasting some of the highest suction and airflow numbers at the cleaner head of any cordless machine, even matching or beating a lot of corded units. Especially with cleaning in bursts throughout the week, there should be no issue with using any of those three models, even on carpet. Even models such as the V8, V10, and V11 have their place, but that starts getting into the territory where not much sets them apart from other brands. Another prominent and trustable brand in the cordless space is LG. They make models such as the CordZero Kompressor, CordZero All-in-One, and so forth that are all impressive in design and functionality, coming with features such as dual charging stands, extension wands, multiple batteries, and so forth. Samsung is a similar brand that offers solid units such as the Jet 75, Jet 90, and Bespoke Jet. Each unit has their strong points and weaker points and are all worth considering. They all about match the newest Dyson models in suction and airflow. I invite anybody to present me with valid evidence that a modern cordless vacuum cleaner such as the ones I mentioned cannot clean well enough to be a user's only vacuum cleaner, because nobody has shown me that so far, and the manufacturers do mean for them to replace corded machines. The burden of proof is on people making the claim that they cannot. Also, making downright false claims such as the one about how Dyson cordless machines have some of the worst suction numbers does not help the cause when the numbers published by Dyson and measured by independent testing all over the place demonstrate the obvious. That just makes you come across as biased, which is blatantly the case with some folks.

General vs Absolute: The main difference between the models is the built in crevice tool into the want and a more advanced HEPA filter due to a change in EU HEPA standards. Absolute has .01 micron filtration (cyan blue filters), where the old one has .03 filtration (purple filters). I would suggest buying the absolute version due to the better HEPA filter and the connivence of the built in crevice tool. If anyone knows of other differences, please let me know.

General vs Outsize: Outsize Dysons are a larger format of the version provided. They allow for longer runtimes, extra capacity, and usually have larger versions of the cleaner and motorbars. The suction should theoretically be similar as the power of the motor is increased as well. This variant would be well suited to cleaning a large house in one go compared to having to swap batteries and empty the canister, as well as reducing cleaning time due to the larger motorbar heads. (Important to note, you would not want to attempt to purchase the larger size motorbars for non outsize versions as it would likely reduce suction)

Airwatts (AW): Air watts are calculated using the formula, (Air Flow (in CFM) x Vacuum (in inches of water lift))/8.5 = Air Watts. Dyson uses this to determine the suction power of the vacuum, but some argue this may be misleading.

Submarine Attachment Note: Dyson mentions on their website that the Dyson Submarine attachment is NOT compatible with other Dyson cordless vacuums as the Submarine version is a wet and dry vacuum. The attachment is not for sale to the general public.

My old Bissell cordless vacuum cleaner's battery has completely died after 13 years of use.

I'm in the market for a new vacuum and have heard how great the Dyson's ones are. The thing is, there's so many models to choose from and it's a little overwhelming for me.

My house is relatively small, but I would like to get one that's powerful for carpets/fluffy rugs, and will go the distance, as I intend to use for at least 5+ years.

My budget is $1000 Australian dollars, but obviously the cheaper the better, but if higher end models offers quality of life extras or features that justifies the higher price, then I'm open to it as well.

Looking at one of my local electronic store, the 4 models that I'm considering are these.

Will the cheapest one be fine for my use, or do you guys recommend for me to go for the higher end ones. Can someone also please fill me in the differences between as well if it's not already covered in the picture.

Cheers

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: DO NOT BUY A DYSON (I wish someone had told me this)
June 7, 2025 -

Hey everyone, just wanted to share my experience with Dyson in case you’re considering buying one of their vacuums.

To start, yes, Dyson products are sleek and powerful at first. For the first 11 months I genuinely liked the vacuum. It looked great, worked well, and felt worth the hype.

But right around the 11-month mark mine broke. That’s where things really went downhill.

Here’s what I wish I knew before buying:

The return and replacement process is incredibly slow. It took me almost two months to get a new vacuum. Two months without the product that is marketed as premium.

Customer support is unhelpful and extremely slow. Most of my time was spent waiting in chat queues or getting bounced around. No urgency, no real solutions.

And most frustrating of all, at every single step I tried to escalate or at least let someone know that things weren’t working as they should. I asked for better support. I flagged delays. I explained how long it had been. But no matter who I spoke to, nobody could actually do anything. There was no way to speed things up, no flexibility, no real help.

That’s what really got me. I can understand that sometimes processes are slow. But when you talk to a real person, explain the problem, and they still can’t do anything. that tells me the system is built to be this frustrating. That’s not what I expect from a premium brand.

(I have reached out to them even after the experiance to allow them to make it right and still nothing)

Also worth noting: you can’t even leave a review on their website. I spent over an hour on support chat just trying to figure this out. Turns out there’s literally no way to leave a product review unless you’re invited to. So the glowing reviews you see? They're curated. That felt deceptive.

So yes, Dyson looks nice on the surface, but if you expect your vacuum to last more than a year or want a company that stands behind its products, I’d say proceed with caution. I’m only sharing this because I wish someone had told me before I bought it.

r/VacuumCleaners on Reddit: Best Dyson for 1 Bedroom Small Apartment
November 1, 2023 -

Hello,

I have read many posts here but they all seem to lean towards buying a Miele C1 for this situation. Honestly, I do not have ANY room. The total apartment is 430 square feet. 1 living room, 1 bedroom, open kitchen and toilet. Very small and I have lots of stuff. What I'm buying looking nice while out in the open (it'll be behind the door on my bedroom) is CRITICAL. It being easy to use and charge is CRITICAL. I have no problem buying another one if the battery dies, but...

I have one deep-ish carpet in the living room and a few rugs under the kitchen sink, entrance, and living room. It needs to be able to clean stuff on these very well. I have a dog who doesn't shed at all, so that's no concern. Currently, I'm using a German brand but I'm not happy with its cleaning performance whatsoever.

It just needs to be able to clean the carpets & rugs WELL. I have broken a glass, and with my current vacuum, it took me ages to clean it (a lot of picking stuff up by hand) and I also spilled some baking soda (which is toxic to dogs) and after not being able to fully clean that I decided to buy the best vacuum that can handle these tasks when the time comes.

Price is of no concern, but I'm not looking forward to spending a lot for the sake of it. I have looked at the LG Cordless but I have no space for the tower. Only Dyson's fit my looking nice, being easy to use criteria, it seems.

So I'm looking at Dyson. Everyone has a different recommendation. Gen5, v15, v12 Slim, v11, v8. I'm confused. Please do share your input!

For anyone wanting to read this into the future, I got a Dyson v12 Slim, liked it a lot so far. Went into a store and tried everything, the decision was between v12 and v15. Just felt like v15 was too bulky. v12 is not a miracle worker, still got some spots on my carpet but don't know how the v15 would have faired, could just be stuck up marks. I used my current vacuum, then used v12. v12's cannister got full, that's how much extra stuff it got. I'm very happy with the purchase so far. I have also learnt from the sales rep you shouldn't use it for broken glass but if you were to do it, just clean the canister every 1-2 seconds to protect the filter. So anyone in my situation get the v15 or v12. It's about bulkiness vs power. I have been told the power of v12 should be enough for most people in most situations. v12 also comes with all attachments which was another factor in my decision making where in on v15 you need to get them extra. The under-couch attachment is incredible, so is the carpet vacuum attachment. Another thing is both the v15 and v12 have detachable batteries, so you can charge them without wall mounting and putting the whole system. This was a big factor as well. I value usability, form-factor and sleekness a lot as long as power is sufficient, and so far that seems to be the case.
