They are as long as you get actual Egyptian Cotton. The best way to tell if the cotton is really 'Egyptian Cotton' is the pricetag ;) Primo brands like Sferra, Frette, Pratesi, etc. will usually use true Egyptian Cotton in their products, but again, you have to pay for it. There are different grades of Egyptian Cotton as well, and what you really want is extra-long staple one-ply Egyptian Cotton since that is usually the best quality. Giza Cotton is the highest grade of Egyptian Cotton you can get and usually for a 'good' set you'll have to pay at least $1000 for it. Anything less than that is not true Giza Cotton (or it's a shittier version of it and not good quality). If you want really good Egyptian Cotton sheets you'll more than likely be spending at least $500 for a King set, to start. Anything less than that would be considered 'mid-tier' and is, as it is so-named, mid-tier and not anything spectacular. Don't get me wrong, mid-tier is not bad and can be pretty good sheets for the price, but there's something to be said for using high-quality Egyptian Cotton sheets that are crafted by master craftsmen (usually that is sheets made in Italy or Portugal). That's why the best sheet sets you can get are ones that are made in Italy (the best), or Portugal (a close second, but still not as good); US-woven brands sadly don't compare and the loss of the manufacturing base in the US has meant that the art of linens have been mostly lost to time thanks to outsourcing. Italy and Portugal, on the other hand, haven't had that issue and still retain their centuries-long mastery of the craft and it definitely shows. If you get an opportunity to feel some swatches from brands like Sferra or Frette then their Giza Cotton offerings are definitely not to be overlooked (it's absolutely wonderful, especially the sateen offerings). I had the pleasure of feeling Sferra's entire line at my local specialty linen shop via its swatches and I gotta say... their Giza Cotton swatch (and the Milos line, too) were buttery-soft and I can't unfeel them now :( But, from my experience, yes: they're worth it. But you'll be crying buckets of tears from buying really good quality ones since they're so damn expensive. I had to compromise and get Peacock Alley's Soprano sheets since they were the cheapest 'primo' brand/model I could get for the price with decent quality extra-long staple Egyptian Cotton (made in Portugal). I adore them and don't regret it, but if I could have, I'd have gotten Sferra's Giza 45 sateen weave sheets :( Answer from SorcererLeotard on reddit.com

I'm looking for authentic Egyptian cotton sheets, but I'm struggling to find a reliable source. I tried searching on Amazon, but the results seem flooded with questionable listings, and many reviews suggest they aren't genuine.

Does anyone have recommendations for trusted brands or retailers that sell real Egyptian cotton sheets? Preferably with verified long-staple cotton and not just misleading labels.

Would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

Curious what are your guys’ preferred Egyptian cotton sheet sets. I’ve been doing a bit of research for a new set and I’m thinking of sticking between 300-400 tc, for breathability also so it’s not multi woven threads from what I see is common.

Since my boyfriend gets hot easily, I’m thinking possibly percale sheets, but not necessary. Just a sheet that doesn’t get so hot.

Would like to stay under 200$ if possible, but wouldn’t mind seeing best options either.

I’m looking for 100% cotton king sheets for under $200. I am most worried about piling and any roughness. What’s your favorite option? It could be organic cotton but not required.

Thank you! I can’t stand the sensory nightmare of my current sheets after they started piling!

I know supima is the “best” but if that is not an option which percale weave should I choose for super hot sleepers?

Long stable. Which is what Supima is, but Supima is also a brand that gives you a no bullshit guarantee. The problem with all of this is that words are cheap and get tossed around loosely, so you don't know exactly what they're selling unless the brand is reliable. They grow junk in Egypt too, and just because it says Egyptian, you don't know with certainty if it's true or just marketing. I don't think the global word police are all that focused. Organic just means they don't spray it with pesticides, and they probably pay someone for a paper of certification. Bottom line is, you can't buy high quality for bargain basement prices, but the inverse is possible and there are people/companies who specialize in that. They're all over amazon and walmart and nobody is policing them. Forget trying to beat the word salad and buy a brand you can trust.

Ultimately, you need to decide on your sheet budget. If you want the best, you'll be shelling out a couple grand to get a premium extra-long staple cotton set. Then you're talking along the lines of Sferra or Frette. If budget is an issue, there are some pretty high quality companies that make a nice percale sheet. They won't last forever, and they won't feel like the creme de la creme. But they'll feel light, airy, and crisp. Good for hot sleepers, who need bedding that breathes. Thomas Lee comes to mind, if you only want white or cream. For brands you can pick up on Amazon with a lot more color options, I'd say California Design Den and Coyuchi's percales are worth looking at. I'm a fan of The Company Store's percale as well - it's pretty soft and very light and probably won't last more than a few years, but that lightness is just what I'm looking for, as I sleep ridiculously hot. I have experience with Quince's linen, not their percale, but I love their linen, especially at their prices, so I'd consider their percale as well if I were going to buy more right now. And LL Bean has a great reputation with their pima cotton percale, but I've been hearing there's been a quality drop off? Good luck figuring out what fits your needs. And your budget.

So hear me out, here. I know what y'all are going to say they're fake. The company is licensed, and accredited both what they told me and what I was able to find by googling the parent company, they are also tagged as well and each sheet set comes with a COA. I took a chance and bought a set, and they are stupidly soft. Like bar non thee nicest sheets I've ever had. I was able to find the parent company and found out they use single ply long strand Giza cotton. Anyway just wanted to share :)

I assume I want Egyptian sateen, correct? My problem is the highest rated stuff on Amazon labelled 100% cotton has tons of reviews mixed in talking about microfiber or bamboo.

The reason I want cotton is it is easier to wash odors out of them. I find certain odors get bonded to polyester fibers to the point they're impossible to wash out fully. I would get bamboo/rayon but I am afraid they will dry out my skin.

Can anyone recommend some very soft cotton sheets? I prefer them to be somewhat warm. Maybe not quite flannel warm though?

Edit: I prefer Navy Blue color...

New apartment, new furniture, new king size mattress... next step.. new bed sheets!

I got Viscose from Bamboo from Cariloha because I remember when I had them many years ago, and loved them. This time, I don't care for them as much as I used to. Beautiful, soft, all that good stuff, but would rather have cotton sheets.

I decided on Egyptian cotton. I never tried them before. But after doing some research (on reddit) there isn't real Egyptian cotton unless you're spending a million dollars on Giza 45. Is this true? I see websites like Silk & Snow that claim they are certified 100% Egyptian cotton at very affordable prices. But can that company be trusted? I've become a little frustrated by all of this.

So, can anyone help? What is true about Egyptian cotton? Anyone tried Silk & Snow? Or is there another good place I can buy from? I prefer sateen, and no more than a 600 TC because I prefer the sheets be lighter, more breathable, and softer. My price limit is maybe $300 for a full set.

I appreciate any advice.

Hi everyone,

A year ago, I bought a very nice 1000TC 100% Premium Egyptian Cotton Sheet set (brand: Amor) from OzSale.

While searching for a nice Egyptian cotton bed sheet set to gift to my parents in Spain, I realized that all the 1000TC options are much more expensive than the price I paid here in Australia, which has led me to think something might not add up.

Could it be that Amor's claims aren’t entirely accurate? The bed sheets are nice, but since I’ve never had super-luxury bed sheets to compare them with, I’m a bit clueless.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

I have bought my sheets from these guys( https://sheetsociety.com/en-au/product/bedding-mocha ) for years. They are less than 1000 thread count but their quality is amazing. This explanation is from their website long staple cotton fabric will not only feel better and last longer, but will also be much more breathable than a higher thread count fabric. High thread count bedding is normally made by jamming threads that are short, stubbly, and clog up the fabric. Longer term, they’re prone to pilling

Everything you ever want to know about bed sheet thread count but were too afraid to ask. This guide used to be available on the Spotlight website but I can't find it at the moment. This is quoted from the page because I saved it... "There’s a maximum number of threads that can fit into a square inch of fabric,” explained Scott Tannen, CEO of Boll & Branch, a luxury linen provider. “Depending on the type of cotton used, that number is generally not more than 400. So there is an awful lot of interesting maths involved in the sheets you see in a department store that can be up to a 1200 thread count.” In fact, Consumer Reports says that 50 years ago, the most luxurious thread count available was 180, but now 1,000 thread counts are the norm. So what happened? We spoke with Tannen about what thread count is, why the numbers are so confusing, and how to buy the best sheets for your bed. Know The “Real” Thread Count Thread count is the total number of threads per square inch in a fabric (counting both horizontal and vertical threads). In theory, the higher the thread count, the softer and higher-quality the sheets. But brands nowadays are counting multi-ply threads, which can lead to higher, erroneous numbers. “In reality, to achieve a higher thread count manufacturers are generally using a lower grade of cotton that becomes very thin when spun,” Tannen explained to us. “They then twist this thread around itself to create a ‘multi-ply’ thread. When they use 2-ply thread and weave it to a theoretical 300-thread count (150 horizontal, 150 vertical) they call it a 600 thread count sheet and sell it that way.” So imagine that a 4-ply thread is woven as a 200 thread count, but sold as an 800 threat count. A regular ply 300 thread count would feel better and last longer, but most consumers are convinced to always buy a higher thread count. “Fortunately, brands are now required to list the thread ply on the package,” Tannen said. “So when sheets are ‘lustrously woven from 2-ply cotton thread’ as I recently saw at a major department store, people should be highly sceptical.” Always Buy Cotton Experts say that organic cotton, Egyptian cotton, and Pima cotton are the best choices over synthetic materials that don’t breathe as well and can make you hot (and sleep poorly as a result). But Tannen warns that not all types of cotton are equal. “The term ‘Egyptian Cotton’ was given to a plant called Gossypium barbadense when it grows along the Nile River in Egypt,” he told us. “This plant type is known for its extra-long staple length (the length of the strand of cotton the plant produces). Unfortunately, modern manufacturers realised that customers were looking for ‘Egyptian Cotton’ when purchasing bedding, so they stretched the definition.” Now, most so-called Egyptian cotton is either a sub-par cotton grown in Egypt or Gossyplum barbadense that isn’t grown in Egypt but in Pakistan, China, or India (and due to soil compositions, is not quite as good as the original). To be safe, Tannen recommends 100% organic cotton because it’s durable, soft, and breathable. Don’t Rely On Touch Common sense dictates you can tell how nice sheets are by touching them, but unfortunately it’s not that simple. “Many manufacturers are applying polishes, waxes, and other substances that increase the luster or soft feel,” Tannen said. “Unfortunately, they all wash off after a washing or two.” Instead, Tannen advised that your sheets are a good quality if they feel better after every subsequent wash. Good quality sheets should also last for years and never pill. If you’re deciding in the store, look at the seams and manufacturing. This won’t always be an easy tell, but if there are threads hanging off or nonuniform stitches, that’s a giveaway that these sheets are not the best. In conclusion, consumers should stop putting so much emphasis on thread count, and put far more emphasis on the quality, softness, and durability of the cotton. And worst comes to worst, keep your receipt."
