Do I need end tables and if so style and size?
I definitely feel like you need to have end tables the issue with a coffee table is that most people put it so far away from the furniture that you have to really lean forward to get a drink or something and that's not always the most comfortable thing to do. I feel like there's too much of a gap between the sofa and chair at the one end that sort of space I would love to see a really good size round table to add some depth to the room because the chairs are very square and the sofa also has a boxy look as well. I'm also not fond of the shape of the coffee table to be used with your style of furniture I would much rather see a rectangular table because of how boxy and square the sofa and chairs are because the ends of the coffee table are in front of the chairs I just think a rectangular table would blend in better and having two good size round end tables will add some depth. Desperate for help deciding style and side tables for living room!
Replace the white blinds with curtains. Use rods with finials long enough to extend beyond the windows. That will help open up the room. Choose something with texture since the material on your sofa is so flat. Same for sofa cushions. More pillows and textural pillows in brighter colors and different shapes. Scatter them along the long sofa. Replace the throw on the end of the long piece. Is there a reason for the pumpkin throw on the back of that piece. If you do need something there, find another throw to replace the it. Put some big pieces of art behind the sofa. Put something on the wall beside the front door. You could pick a larger and more decorative clock for that clock wall, or maybe something narrow to put underneath it. Maybe something long and rectangular like a poster. Posters are cheap and so are poster frames. You can find some nice art pieces at Michael’s and poster frames as well. Buy the frame and the poster, and the frame shop will put it on for you. But, you can find nice artwork on Amazon or Art.com. Personally, I like to see pieces before I buy them, but that’s just me. My daughter has some nice artwork she got from Amazon. Can you move that big table behind the long sofa piece? It makes that end if the room seem crowded. if you can’t move it, replace it with something smaller and slimmer. Move the long sofa piece over towards the front door. It looks like you have the room and moving that piece away from the bigger part of the sofa will open up the room. End tables. You can get wedge shaped end tables. They are made to go between chairs or sofa pieces when there isn’t much space. One of those would fit perfectly between the two sofa pieces. I’ve seen them on Amazon. Also check Way Fair. As for the other end of the sofa, I’m stuck. Here’s a maybe idea. First, pull the sofa forward enough to put that floor lamp behind it. You could do that if you move the long piece toward the front door and the bigger piece down slightly. Or mount a lamp on the wall. There is no way to put a table there. I was going to suggest a small wall mounted bedside table there, but the sofa is pushed up against the side wall and you wouldn’t be comfortable getting up from the sofa. Instead, put a wall hanging there. It would be flat and wouldn’t be in the way. Nothing too small for the wall. Coffee table. That’s a hard one. Some small, matching, round tables might work. Or a long narrow piece like a bench. Not too tall or narrow. Otherwise it will turn over too easily. I wouldn’t get anything higher than the sofa seat. Speaking of narrow benches. Can you fit a small bench beside the front door? Add a basket and you’ll have a perfect spot for keys and a pocket book. You need a big rug to draw the room together. Might I suggest something with enough texture, pattern, and color to hide that Golden Retriever hair? I have a red GR and I made sure my rugs would hide that hair until I had time to vacuum. And speaking of dogs, I have a nice round basket for my dogs toys. She loves to dig in it and pull her favorites out. The basket makes for quick and easy pickup. TV console. You need a large, long, piece there. Look at a second hand furniture store for an old, long dresser. You can sand it and paint paint it, or polish the wood if it looks good. If you want new, shop Way Fair. Go around a third of the height you have now. Maybe even twice. A larger clock could go over the tv. Then the current clock wall could take a longer piece of artwork. Center the dresser and center the tv on the dresser. Another idea for the TV is a smaller dresser with some tall narrow (depth wise) bookshelves on either side. I got a nice, shaker style, small bookcase case, online from Home Depot. It’s solid wood and came stained. I needed something narrow for my entryway. It came straight to my house. It came unassembled so you’ll need to put the cases together. If you decide to do the bookcases you can add books and small nicknacks to fill out the room. Get the dresser tall enough for the top of your tv to be about 4-6” below the top of the bookcases. Then center the clock between them in that gap. It would be fine if the dresser is deeper than the bookcases. That will bring the TV forward and make it easier to see. With a long dresser, center the tv and add small things on either end. Maybe stacks of old books a nice vase, bowls, or decorative boxes. They don’t have to match. Just make sure to balance each end in volume and height. I’m suggesting using dressers because you can use the drawers to stash all those things you don’t want lying around. Maybe put an extra throw in there. You’ll be surprised at how handy those drawers are. I have an old pine dresser for my tv cabinet. I stash junk in those drawers when company is on the way. Check antique or second hand shops for the nick-nacks. You’ll see tons of inexpensive items. I prefer to buy odds and ends that don’t match. I think they add character to the room. General suggestions. Hide the electrical cords and take the twinkle lights down. Your room will look neater. The white walls and grey sofas give you a blank canvas. Don’t be afraid to use color or texture. Choose a color you like, red, blue, or your choice, as long as it goes with gray. Then pick the artwork to draw out that color and complimentary colors for your sofa pillows and rug. I would choose neutral colored curtains. Fill those blank walls. Make sure the artwork isn’t too small for your walls or put several pieces on a single wall. If you have a Home Goods store in your area, head straight there. They have rugs, sofa pillows, table and furniture. curtains and rods, nick-nacks and artwork. Home Goods is an offshoot from TJ Maxx so they are fairly inexpensive. I recently redid my family room and replaced all the area rugs throughout the house. I got all of my rugs and sofa pillows, and curtains from there. I also found some new pieces of artwork. Well, now I’ve taken your entire room over and bossed you around. Sorry. I love decorating and got carried away. More on reddit.com

How do you decorate an end table?
Start by choosing a focal point, like a stylish lamp or a decorative vase, to anchor the table. Then, layer in elements of varying heights and textures, such as books, candles, or small sculptures, to create visual interest. To keep your end table tidy and helpful, leave some room for practical items, like coasters or a decorative tray for remote controls. Experiment with different combinations until you find a look that suits your style and complements the overall décor of your room.

How tall should an end table be?
Ideally, an end table should be roughly the same height as the arm of the adjacent sofas or armchair, keeping your favorite book or mugs of coffee accessible while seated. As a general guideline for a living room end table, look for pieces that are around 22 to 30 inches tall. Don't forget to consider any existing furniture and how the end table fits into the picture – it's all about finding that perfect balance between form and function.

September 2, 2023 -

We rearranged this room and got a much bigger coffee table. Wondering if end tables are essential or not.I often sit in the chairs and put my tea on the coffee table but maybe the side chairs need something? I find those little drink tables that are so popular to tippy for my old house floors.
