Fan Control - A highly focused fan software for Windows
You can checkout the list of active plugins on the Github page. Fan Control backend is mainly based on LibreHardwareMonitor, an open source fork of the original OpenHardwareMonitor. This means that hardware compatiblity is entirely open for anyone to contribute, and doesn't rely on a single developer or company who may stop caring at some point.

Most of them are not made to be interfaced by a 3rd party. However, if supported, a plugin may add support for a specific type of laptop. To be clear, you'll be able to install the software, but it won't find any fans or may throw errors. Q: My NVIDIA GPU has 3 fans but only 2 control cards show up.

r/FanControl on Reddit: Plugin to change fan speed on game or specific application launch
February 26, 2025 -

In the perfect world I would love to have a plugin that actives specific curves or even change configurations when games/processes launch and then uses a totally different profile when not gaming. Is anyone aware of anything like this?

Another great option would be for the curve to have one of the options to be on game launch for certain fans. For instance you can choose which sensor to use for your curve, but I would love to have sensor source be game launches. For some fans I would just leave normal fan curves that follow cpu or other sensors, and then some fans that look for game or application launches.

If you know if other plugins that might be interesting please link me.

Thanks!

May 18, 2023 - I'll leave it to you to read up on how to create custom sensors in HWiNFO, once you've learned that, all you gotta do is to create a custom temperature sensor, name it whatever you want, and set its value as the name of the percentage based sensor that you're actually interested in. This will create the same sensor, except it will have Celcius as its unit, which won't mean anything but at least now you'll be able to use that in Fancontrol ... I was looking at something similar with a plugin, but couldnt find any.

Especially in newer GPUs the fan does not kick in below 60°C or a certain level of GPU utilization. This is a small toy project in Rust to achieve a more elaborate control over this using either XNVCtrl in Linux or NVAPI in Windows. It is a work in progress so proceed with caution! The minimum supported driver version is 352.09. For GPUs with multiple independent cooler control nvfancontrol will autodetect and apply the provided response curve to each of the available fans separately.

Best Computer Fan Control Software for Windows in 2025
September 12, 2025 - If you’re looking for a lightweight ... your best bet. It has a small memory footprint and gives you full control over your fans’ speed, and it also monitors the temperature and health of your CPU and hard drives and SSDs. It sounds like a lot of features to get from a program that runs as a background task. But that’s what makes Argus stand out. In addition, this tool displays and controls the fan speed of modern NVIDIA and AMD graphics ...

May 1, 2024 - My goal: I recently switched from windows 11 to ubuntu 24.04 on a computer with the RTX 4090. Previously on windows the fans where controlled by the GPU which would stop them at temps somewhere below 40C. I would like to achieve the same thing in ubuntu. What I have tried: I have until now tested the 550 beta and 535 NVIDIA drivers downloaded from the following PPA since it was recommended over directly downloading from the NVIDIA website on askubuntu.
