I'm rocking a Razor Black Widow Ultimate 2014 edition with just the green backlighting. I love this keyboard and it's by far the one I'm most familiar with but I wanna expand my horizons and see what other ones out there feel great for typing.
Edit: A good amount of options here. Based off the most common recommendations, it looks like I'm going to have to be shopping around for boards with Topre switches. Hope they're worth the money :p
I am at my computer (on and off) from 5am until 11pm. I need the backlit keys to see when I turn the lights off, but I don't need a light show. Apex 7 lights up the room at night. I want mechanical keys with switches I can change in case one goes bad as it did on my Apex 7. What are others using as their best work keyboard?

I have a Komplete Kontrol S88 Mk2 which I love, but I recently had the chance to touch a Nord keyboard and was blown away how good the keys felt! Is there a comparable keybed on a midi controller out there? Or any other easier to obtain synth that can be used as a midi controller with superior key feel?
I’ve owned a lot of keyboards over the years, but the Zoo65 from Momoka is hands down my favorite. It’s the perfect combination of size, layout, and—most importantly—the feel and sound. I’m currently on my fifth keycap set with this board, not because I needed to change them, but because it’s just fun to refresh its look every now and then.
What really sets it apart, though, is how it sounds and feels with MT3 keycaps. I’ve tried several other profiles, and while they all worked fine, none of them came close to the sound and tactile satisfaction that MT3 provides on this board. The deep, thocky sound and the comfortable sculpted profile just hit differently.
I am not a keyboard enthusiast per se, I'm just after some advice about purchasing one please.
TL;DR: Need a keyboard which is good for efficient longform writing.
More detail: My wife and I both have jobs that consist of a lot of typing. Like, a lot. We used following keyboards because we had them lying around:
Me: https://www.aukey.life/products/km-g6-104-key-led-backlit-mechanical-keyboard (but the UK version)
Wife: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07D8X6CK8/
For us, these keyboards don’t lend themselves to longform writing. They are loud, which is distracting (not sure if this really needs to be mentioned, but we really need to think and concentrate whilst typing). They are tiring to our fingers, which is kind of a weird thing to say, but is a real thing.
I also had a one of these lying around: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-Wired-Keyboard-600-Layout/dp/B001QSZ8IE. So I swapped my keyboard out. The difference is night and day. No noise, simple to type with.
But this just some cheap keyboard I’ve had lying around for ten years. I don’t imagine that this is the best keyboard for the job.
I want to replace our keyboards with the optimal keyboard for typing within my price range. Well, that said, I don’t really have a budget in mind, preferably under £50, but the cheaper the better. We are in the UK, so something that’s available here would be ideal.
I don’t really care whether it’s a mechanical keyboard/membrane/whatever. The point is not about any particular type of keyboard, it’s more about the typing efficiency.
It will only be used for work. No gaming or any other use.
All suggestions appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, we need full-size keyboards with number pads, etc.
Does anyone know a nice sounding keyboard (thock or creamy or something of these sorts) that is budget friendly (100$ take or less) and is prebuilt (I have no experience building keyboards) All responses are appreciated.
I am looking for recommendations for a mechanical keyboard that provides a nice and satisfying typing experience. I don't care about gaming or RGB lighting.
What I am looking for:
-
Excellent typing experience.
-
100% full-size keyboard. I like the spacing between keys. (Can't even do 96%, a bit too cramped).
-
After trying the Razer Backwidow V4 at BestBuy, clicky switches (blue or green) felt good for tying. So I am leaning toward clicky switches.
Current brand options:
-
Keychron Q6 (Gateron G Pro Blue Switch)
-
Razer BlackWidow V4 or pro (i don't know the difference)? (green switches).
If I buy the Razer, I will turn off the RBG lighting for sure. I tried this keyboard at BestBuy, alongside the orange switches on the Razerblackwidow 75%. I did enjoy the orange switches, I have to say. Keychron and DasK are not available locally.
- Das Keyboard pro 6 (Blue switches)
If you can think of other 100% keyboard brands, feel free to share.
I'm kinda new to the keyboard shopping market. Before I'd just grab whatever "X Brand GAMING Clicky Keyboard RGB PRO Macro" thing and call it a day. I like to think I've matured in my tastes, and I need help finding a good keyboard. I don't do a lot of gaming on a keyboard, mainly just typing. Looking for one around the $100 range (preferably under), a full-sized ANSI keyboard, smaller is okay, but I need the number pad. something mechanical with quiet tactile keys, preferably with rgb, but not a must. If what I'm looking for isn't possible, I'm willing to compromise, but quiet keys are a must. There's a lot of info out there, and I'm having trouble sifting through all of it and not get overwhelmed. Thanks in advance.
I broke my current keyboard so I need a replacement. My budget is around £200. I like clicky keys like Cherry MX Blues or Model M buckling springs keyboards.
I am looking for a keyboard either a console or slab style keyboard that feels the most real to an acoustic piano. In terms of action, weighted keys, polyphony, feeling potential for, dynamics. etc... The price I mentioned above is pretty much my budget I just want something that performs really well in terms of action. So that I can also slap on a VST on it to make it sound nicer. So I don't really care too much about sound quality from the keyboard itself. Any suggestions or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.
I’m looking for a mechanical keyboard mainly for typing, writing, and general daily use. I want something that feels smooth and comfortable for long sessions, but I don’t want it to be insanely loud or rattly. I’ve tried a cheap board before and it felt scratchy and hollow, so I’m trying to avoid that this time.
I’m open to different layouts like 75% or TKL, I just need arrow keys. Hot swap would be a plus because I might experiment later, but I’m fine with something prebuilt if it’s reliable and doesn’t need mods to sound decent.
What would you recommend right now, and what switch type should a first timer lean toward if they want quiet but still satisfying?
I'm want to find a keyboard and I have an unlimited budget, and I want to find one that is very comfortable, and also provides a fast typing experience, I'll be using it for typing and programming. Just a side note, what kind of keyboard does somebody use if he/she is using it for more than three-quarters of the day? I've also heard of ergonomic, and can anyone explain what it does? Thanks!
So I prefer a membrane keyboard but they seem to be going away to make room for the mechanical ones.
I really don't like the clicks of a mechanical one. It feels/sounds so plasticy.
Is there any keyboards that is close to feeling like a nice membrane keyboard? Preferable wireless and not too expensive.
My logitech pro keyboard getting beat up and im not liking the harsh sound rn. Whats a good wired, white keyboard for gaming and sounds “thocky” or “creamy”, any sound that isnt super clicky and harsh basically. tactile switches would be good and budget around 150?
Thanks!
hello keyboard experts. i have no idea how keyboards work on the market and know that there are a lot of bits and pieces to one, but i have always wanted a keyboard that sounds like this. no idea what parts or what i need so can anyone give me an idea of what i need and where to find them for cheap? 😭🙏
Edit 2 - oh shit lmao some of these are $1500. Is there a keyboard for $300 - $500CAD with pedals that feel and sound real?
Edit - i forgot to add- i prefer a full setup with a pedal.
Looking for a good electric keyboard. I dont need a “beginner” keyboard just looking to get an electric. The uprght piano I have has keys that are decently heavy. I prefer something that has a heavy feel and not like those cheap ones that feel like cardboard weight lol.
Preferably 88 keys. Not sure how much keyboards are today but looking for best budget electric.
Have a look at this digital piano buying guide: https://steveescoffery.com/digital-piano-buying-guide-from-piano-teacher/
Be sure to check this subreddit's FAQ outline and search this subreddit for similar posts. I responded to this type of question at least 6 times this week alone.
The cheapest decent digital piano with weighted keys is the Yamaha P-45 $649 CAD. Others that I recommend are the Yamaha P-125 $729CAD and the Roland FP-30 $999 CAD.
Good luck.
can't recommend any but make sure your keys are weighted. makes a huge difference between a "cheap" and a "nice" electric keyboard. you can have all the fancy functions in the world but it won't mean shit if the keys aren't weighted.
So ive decided that i need a new keyboard. the problem is, there are 3 options which all seem like a really good choice and i obviously cant get all 3. i was thinking about these 3: 1: Wooting 60 He,
2: Apex pro mini and 3: Monsgeek m1 HE. does anyone have experience with these? if so, please also think about the price, as the apex for example is 120$ cuz of black friday :)
BTW im really sorry if i postet this in the wrong subreddit, but i thought this is the place to ask
i also dont really know what i like, because this would be my first "expensive" keyboard and i dont have much experience with different types of switches etc
I need a new keyboard as my old one is now defective, I would really want a real piano but my parents tell me I can’t have one because it would take up too much space in my family room, and it would look tacky in my room. I’m looking for a piano that: -has weighted keys -has three i pedals -has stand -overall realistic feel
If you could suggest some keyboards to buy I would be super happy
I don't necessarily mean expensive though either I just mean a nice keyboard that you'd have to go out of your way for to specifically acquire.
For myself I've had a mechanical keyboard for years that I used for gaming and typing. It has tactile key switches which is sort of the intermediate between linear switches which are often suggested for gaming and clicky switches which are suggested for typing. I never had a problem with my keyboard for gaming or typing, it was a nice overall keyboard that did what I needed and it wasn't too difficult switching between a normal keyboard and my own.
Now that I've been typing a lot more than I am gaming I decided to invest in a nice keyboard with clicky switches. And wow, what a difference. I actually wasn't expecting it to be as nice or improve my typing experience as much as it did. I've hardly had it a couple days and I'm already starting to feel like I'm getting spoiled because when I had to use a normal keyboard recently to do something I was like, "ew, who uses keyboards like these to type on" which is never something I felt switching back and forth with my old keyboard.
So while I'm not really smart enough to understand what difference a clicky switch makes I do know that it's much nicer for typing on. Not necessarily that it makes you a better typist, but that it improves your typing experience. Now I'm not trying to act like a shill for clicky switches but I do think if you spend any significant amount of time typing that you too might find benefit from getting one of these types of keyboards.
