r/antivirus on Reddit: A good completely free anti-virus
December 6, 2024 -

I have recently become very concerned about the security of my Microsoft accounts since one of them was deleted by a Russian hacker. Thankfully, only my Minecraft account was on it; none of my personal info was. So I need an anti-virus that is free and capable of these points. Btw I use AVG currently but basically everything is hidden behind a paywall. I want something that's free but also like Bitdefender. Also mods pls don't delete this saying there's stuff in the wiki, Im genuinely really concerned about my account safety.

  1. Trackers and viruses Support: Block suspicious hackers, trackers and viruses. Optional: Have a feature like in Bitdefender where it scans a file before opening or smth.

  2. Optional: I don't know if this is possible but account security.

  3. Scans for finding hidden flaws or something on the PC, this is there in AVG but all that really happens is that they find nothing, but then they want you to pay for some random stuff that might happen.

  4. Doesn't randomly have a popup showing to upgrade(optional)

  5. I just like all the features of premium BitDefender and premium AVG. But I just want them for free.

This is really important for me. :)

r/antivirus on Reddit: What's the best free antivirus to use for windows 10 ?
October 19, 2025 -

Since windows 10 ending support, I was looking for a good alternative to windows defender, unfortunately Kaspersky free was discontinued so the only solution for me was trying the free version of bitdefender.

My experience with it was poor as it's using alot of memory slowing down my PC despite having a great setup which unfortunately lack of TPM 2.0.

Could you guys suggest something better and pretty reliable? I was thinking of the old school avira but still not sure about it

I just ordered a new computer and want to install the free version of the avast anti virus.

I don't need VPN, additional firewall or parental controls.

IS this sufficient?

The only dangerous thing i do is I watch porn, so will be clicking on them.

November 21, 2024 - So, any of the programs listed in the wiki at https://old.reddit.com/r/antivirus/wiki/index#wiki_anti-virus_.28aka_anti-malware.29_developers would be a good starting place to find what is best for you. If you are looking for a free program, check out the ones with a check mark ("✔️") in the Free Version?

What free antivirus does anyone recommend?
February 16, 2025 - The reason why Windows 10 won‘t ... help you, you‘ll need to upgrade to a supported OS (Windows 11, maybe Linux or Windows 10 LTSC) ... Kaspersky free or Bitdefender free....

r/antivirus on Reddit: "Best" free antivirus?
January 16, 2024 -

Probably a stupid question, I'm not very experienced, but what is - in your opinion - the best antivirus that has a lifetime "free" tier, or is open-source and free?

I do not want to use the pay from my job on one since I am underage and do not interact with viruses or potential threats often enough to warrant an expensive antivirus, but I understand the dangers of not having a proper one, even if Windows Defender is "good enough".

Thank you for helping.

Hey, do you guys have any free antivirus recommendations? Or at least some affordable antivirus options…

Tbh, it feels like antivirus used to be a huge topic (especially back when we were all on Limewire and MSN all day lol), but I haven’t seen much about it lately (maybe it’s just me?)

Appreciate any suggestions!

Hello, I want to ask your opinion about which free antivirus is the best, I have heard that Avira is great in its free version although I have not tried it, I currently use AVAST and I think it is fine although I have read that it is one of the worst, years ago I used AVG but some computer friends recommended me not to use it. Also, a friend has this antivirus (first time I've seen it) 360total security but I feel like it's not trustworthy. What could you recommend?

What is everyone using for an antivirus? : r/Windows10
February 9, 2024 - Windows defender but if you really want a 3rd party antivirus, bitdefender is pretty much the best and most trusted out there. Although it is really aggressive, so I and others suggest malwarebytes. All up to you. ... I've used bitdefender in the past, but have jumped to Malwarebytes instead.

Hey guys

I'm looking to download some sort of antivirus software for my computer. i have tried to look online but most websites seem to be paid advertisements for Norton and McAfee, so I don't know who to trust.

Please let me know if you have any recommended software, and how your experience has been with them.

Thanks
