r/iPhoneography on Reddit: Best Free photography app?
October 24, 2024 -

I recently upgraded from iPhone X to the iPhone 16 Pro. The camera is awesome! But I’m wanting to set my exposure manually, and the native app only allows a couple of seconds.

My goal is to do some night photography, stars, etc. but I don’t want to spend $ if I don’t have to. If an app costs a few $ as a one time expense, I’m okay with that, but don’t want to have a subscription.

What are the best 3rd party apps for long exposure photos that are either free or a one time expense?

Thanks in advance!

Hey I just started using an iphone because i had no phone and my friend had a spare that they gave to me. I like taking photos of myself, landscapes and things and I am not usually satisfied by the default camera app on most phones. That being said i was used to being able to find a decent free alternative, but it seems every "free" alternative on the app store is actually paywalled (im not doing a free trial cause im gonna forget and then get charged 40 bucks). I have an iphone 8 i think and all i want is a camera app that will let me adjust the light intake so im not glowing like i just crawled out of a nuclear testing site.

I say it that way bc their main camera app has all the basics & is mostly free but has the option for one time payment for things like longer exposures. But they also have other apps that let you do long exposures in RAW or 4K Timelapses. Still with one time payment options that aren’t too bad, but lets you focus on what you’re looking to do. ... November 18, 2024 - I think they don't fully support the raw composite that the iPhone creates. You should have a look at DarkRoom, it does a great job and the free version is quite usable. Snapseed's cool to add edits on top of your exported raw. Continue this thread ... Lightroom app. Lightroom is free and so useful. ... The lightroom camera app is actually astonishingly good, paired with some heavy denoising it works great. Im glad they made it free. Continue this thread ... I have recently done a little research for myself.

October 9, 2024 -

Hi, does anyone know of a free (no in app purchases, no subscriptions, no nothing paid) app that allows for manual settings for photos?

Every single one I tried is behind a paywall or a subscription these days, I only need white balance control, I find it so dumb having to purchase an app for that!

TIA

I'm in a search for a camera app that I can shoot with comfortably in auto when I casually want to snap pictures, band has raw and manual controls when I want to be precise. I have moment, pro cam 8 and obscura, but I feel the in auto mode they take worse photos than stock camera app. Do you have any recommendations?

Hey all, seeing a lot of the comparison photos from the iPhone 14 Pro, and hearing Apple’s own algorithms in the Camera app are a big part of that issue, I’m wondering what the best 3rd party camera app is these days.

Heard a bit about ProCam and Halide and others, but for something that does manual and automatic control what’s the best?
