Pluto TV has over a hundred free channels and tons of on demand content. Roku Channel has a ton of on demand content but I don’t think it has as many free channels. Plex has a lot of free channels and on demand content plus it allows you to stream your content from your computer. Tubi TV has a ton of on demand content but I haven’t checked out the live TV channels. They did just have the Super Bowl air live as they are owned by CBS or FOX. r/cordcutters on Reddit: best and worst free streaming TV providers
November 15, 2025 -

I just started watching "The Ref" on Freebie TV which I am unfamiliar with.

The first several minutes of the movie included a small picture-in-picture in the top left corner. I think it was advertising but I ignored it so who know.

At the four minute mark, the streaming froze.

Anyone more knowledgable about the p-i-p content? Is it advertising?

And of course, last time I watched movie on Pluto (or was it Tubi?) it included intrusive commercial breaks every 10 minutes, often in the middle of a scene.

Which free streaming providers do a better job?

ETA: From the responses, it seems that Pluto was the channel I watched. And people feel that Tubi is a less intrusive, more enjoyable provider. Thanks for the info, everyone!

r/Frugal on Reddit: In your opinion, what's the best live TV streaming service right now on a tight budget?

So am trying to find a good live TV streaming that won’t completely wreck my budget. Just something I can customize my channel lineup a bit (pick between sports, news, lifestyle, etc.) I don’t really need 100+ channels, just the ones I actually watch.

Also other things like a decent cloud DVR (something like 50+ hours is fine), option to stream on multiple devices (family of 4), local channels would be great but not a dealbreaker if there's a workaround like using an antenna, and works on Roku/Fire TV/Apple TV.

I’ve seen some services offer themed add-ons (like extra sports or kids content) and that would actually be perfect for me since I’d rather not pay for stuff I don’t watch. Anyone here using something that checks most of these boxes?

update: thanks for the recommendations everyone! spent days thinking it over but eventually ended up getting Sling, it basically got everything I needed. thank you for recommending it!

Cable TV is so expensive these days. Have FIOS and paying an arm and leg for 75% channels that I don't watch.

Looking to start free trials to see what is best. Started the free trial the other day with HuluTv. The app On my Xbox Series X it is fast but on my Google tv(Sony) it is slow as heck to browse.

Is the rule of thumb getting any live TV streaming App on an Apple tv/Roku/AmazonFirestick device? Because the TV Google OS maybe can't handle it.

r/hometheater on Reddit: Best TV streaming app for live channels without ditching my home theater setup?

I’m trying to cut the cord but don’t want to compromise on the experience I’ve built with my home theater. I’ve got a projector + surround sound and I still like watching live channels (sports, news, etc.) in addition to on-demand stuff.

What’s the best TV streaming app that plays nicely with home theater setups? Ideally something that supports Dolby (if possible), doesn’t lag, and has a decent interface for flipping through live content like traditional TV.

Would love to hear what others here are using (especially if you've replaced cable and stuck with the same app long-term.) Much better if it works well across different devices (Android TV, Firestick, etc.).

Update: Thanks for the help! I went with Sling and it’s been great so far. It works well with my home theater setup, supports Dolby, and streams smoothly with no lag. The live TV guide feels a lot like cable, and it runs well on both Firestick and Android TV. Really happy with the switch!

I have Sling but I really do not watch it that much and am considering cancelling. The other day I was helping my parents get their new TV set up and went on the Roku App and they had a lot more stuff on it than the last time I opened it.

Out of Roku, Samsung TV, Pluto, Tubi etc. which one would you say is the best? I noticed a lot have overlap on channels but did not delve too far into their on demand movies and stuff like that.

Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, After several months, I've finally finished my own little streaming app. Its like netflix and all the other streaming platform in one place.

I'm an old-school Stremio user, but I thought I'd like to create something similar in my free time. My goal wasn't to replace Stremio, but simply to offer an alternative. I want to add as many simple, on-demand customization options to the app as possible. One such feature right now is the category editor, but many other things are also planned.

The app is completely free, with no ads or paywalls. I also managed to get it on the Play Store, so it's available on phones, tablets, and TVs.

Here are a few features the app already has:

Built-in Real-Debrid

Subtitle addon

Trakt support

Category editor

Synchronization of favorites and watched movies/series with a Google login

Separate mobile and TV versions

Community addons (stremio addons is supported-ish)

It's also compatible with most Stremio addons, like scrapers and catalog addons. By the way, because of the built-in Real-Debrid, you don't have to enter your details separately in the addons, even if it's a Stremio addon.

This might not be the best, most detailed app description, but I'm very excited to see how you'll receive it and what your experiences will be with my app.

I hope you'll like it and it will handle well if some of you start using it. :D I'm open for feedbacks! There is still bugs in the app,, but I'm working on it.

Hello,

I'm new to the community, but I've been trying to hunt down live TV with channel guides. Its very frustrating to click through all the channel icons to see which ones that I want to watch... does anyone have a FREE live TV app suggestion? I am only looking for USA and no international tv series if this helps narrow down the selections.

Thank you

Hey there. My grandmother recently got a Roku TV and she's trying to get away from Spectrum. Unfortunately she's being very picky about not having some shows, primarily she likes to watch CBS Channel 13 Portland news, which also plays her soap operas later on in the evening. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for apps that may have that, syfy, and maybe other local stuff? Trying to set her up since she stopped her Spectrum TV services. Currently she's using the Spectrum TV App and I know it's only a matter of time before they boot her off of it or bill her for some reason.
