Does anyone know of a legit free QR code generator that doesn't just last for a week trial? Made the mistake of buying 500 business cards and now I can't use any of them unless I pay $15/month to keep the code up and running and I'd rather not do that. Please let me know!

Are QR Codes for free?
What is the minimum size of a QR Code?
A QR code with a length of up to 72 characters (this is the length of a typical URL) should be printed in a size of 2 x 2 cm when scanned from a distance of 20 cm. Theoretically, smaller sizes of 1 x 1 cm are possible on modern smartphones with a camera that supports autofocus.
Is a QR Code still readable when some areas of the QR Code are damaged?
When creating a QR Code, a certain level of error correction can be specified so that the code stays readable, even if the QR Code is partially damaged or hidden. There are 4 different levels:
- Level L - up to 7%
- Level M - up to 15%
- Level Q - bis 25%
- Level H - up to 30% may be damaged
The higher the error correction, the more the QR code can be damaged, but the bigger is the size of the QR Code.
Hi!
I use QR code generators at work, but recently all of the page up and page down of sites that offer this all have become pay to use or at least have to make an account.
Does anyone know one that is still free and without sign up?
I need free text variant, not URL.
Please and thank you
Edit: Thanks all. Addons for the browser was a quick and easy fix :)
I know there are tons of free QR code generators out there, but many either expire quickly or push premium upgrades.
I recently tried ME-QR and it worked fine — permanent links, no watermark, no login required. Again, this isn't an ad — just wondering what others here are using? Interested in hearing some personal favorites that have worked well long-term.
Hey guys, can you recommend a free QR code generator? Preferably one with no expiry and unlimited scans. I need it for an invitation I’m making, and the link is from Google Maps. The wedding is on Dec 18, 2025. Is QR Code Monkey reliable for this?
Every ‘free’ QR code generator I’ve tried eventually hits you with paywalls (analytics, custom branding, dynamic links). Is there really no open-source or SaaS that lets you fully customize design, download SVG/PNG, and track scans for real—without surprise fees? Or am I just expecting too much from free tools?
Hey everyone,
I’m looking to generate a QR code that never expires and allows for unlimited scans. I’ve read that on some platforms, the QR codes stop working after a while or have scan limits, which is something I want to avoid.
Does anyone have recommendations for a free service that provides permanent QR codes with unlimited scans?
Thanks in advance!
I am looking for something to generate many unique QR codes with unlimited scans. Is there anything that I can use for free that can generate this? Extra points if I can put custom words inside of it or something.

What do you mean unlimited scans? QR codes are like barcodes, you can scan them as many times as you want.
Are you talking about QR codes with URL addresses in them?
If so, just create your own URL shortener. Super easy to set up, and you can get a short domain url and look even fancier.
Edit: SOLVED - Thanks for your help!! I know many options know! 😊😊👍🏻👍🏻
Is there any option to generate a QR Code that leads to a wordpress site and is completely free?
Hi everyone
I had created my business cards and I had also added a QR code (using QR STUFF) allowing the recipients to scan and download all my contact info into their phone without typing.
The link has now expired, and i can reactivate the code by acquiring a subscription plan.
Obviously i need to understand what is cheaper between printing again the cards with a different code or buying the annual membership for the QR generator.
is there any real effective FREE QR Code generator that works?
thanks in advance
Do not use this site!!!!!! They claim you have a free trial so you go ahead and create a QR code FOR A BUSINESS. Then they deactivate your QR code once trial ends and they also don't specify that they'll charge you $121 instead of $15 monthly. They'll have you use their stupid trial and once that's over and you've already printed your business card u won't be able to use that QR code again unless you pay that $121 or more! So freaking mad right now. That's stealing if you ask me!! Garbage companies are the ones that have fine print because they are money hungry for cash!!
The company I work at has been using beaconstack to generate dynamic QR codes, and it's been really useful in monitoring how our QR codes are used and collecting data. But recently they were bought out by a larger company, and the annual fee of $100 has skyrocketed to $1000+. We use QR codes on a lot of our packaging to show videos of our products in motion, since most of our stuff is in boxes. If anyone knows any good alternatives I would really appreciate it.
Hi. I tried three different websites and every one keeps changing my URL to use their site's short URL linker. I get the logic; less to encode means a less complex QR but I don't care. I don't want some intermediary step between scan and my site.
So can someone recommend a software tool for Windows or website that will not monkey around with the desired URL and allows for logo embedding? For the software, I don't mind if it's paid just so long as it's a one time payment not some recurring charge.
Thanks!
How to do it? I've seen services that seem to be free upfront, but charge $100+ per year. Surely there must be a way to just create the QR code independently. All good advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Hi,
I just finished creating a free QR Code generator with advanced settings, and I’m gathering feedback about it, and also about the big picture I have.
Why did I do it?
Not too long ago, I wanted to generate some simple SVG QR Code for a completely unrelated project and noticed everything I was finding on Google was some kind of trap to paid services, or the free solutions lacked features (like adding an image in the middle, changing the shape, etc.) I ended up using one of the free ones but was a bit frustrated about it.
What’s the big picture?
A little after that story, one of my friends who has a small factory in Mexico asked me how I could help them build a simple solution for their workforce so that they could calculate their time worked, and a bunch of other data related to their workers. Some solutions exist but they are flaky (e.g. fingerprint systems) and the “big” solutions are too expensive for smaller structures. That's why they came to me because I'm a software engineer and like to solve problems.
I built a small prototype based on QR Codes topped with geolocation and they started using it daily, without any interruption. It’s been surprisingly useful for them. I grew the application for a while; it’s pretty solid at this point and has a bunch of features to fit their needs. Today, I think it’s mature enough to try and “launch” it to the world.
How to market all of that?
To promote this solution, I wasn’t quite sure what to do. I started developing a landing page which is the ABC of promoting anything, then created a small blog where I’m writing some articles related to the industry.
On top of that, I remember that “problem” I had when searching for a QR Code generator, so I figured why not take a few days to code it and add a tools section to the site, like that, if people start using it they may be interested in the main SaaS I’m working on. After all, it’s close to what I built.
And here we are. I’m not a marketer, but I like to build stuff, and progressively learn how to sell it. Any feedback is appreciated, be it about the tool, the blog, or even the landing / SaaS.
About the QR Code generator
I was hesitating to also add a bunch of “copywriting” below the tool itself so that it’s better referenced on Google, but I don’t know if it’s smelly to do that. What do you guys think?
I’ve no backlink whatsoever because it’s all new and I’m not even sure where to start… Also, this kind of industry has a weak online presence, so it’s a challenge, but I’ll take it.
It’s also all translated into Spanish (the landing and app as well) because, well, my first “client” is a Mexican factory and they don’t speak English, and I have the feeling it’s easier to get into the latino market (less saturated, more family factories?)
What would you do if you were me? I plan on building other tools and writing more articles in the hope it will drive some traffic.
I had some suggestions of being present on TikTok/Instagram and recording videos about how it works, or explaining it, it may be worth trying it out too, but again it's an unknown field for me.
Thanks for reading!
Howdy! Does anyone know how to generate QR codes for free that don’t expire? I am signed up for my first pop up vintage market and want to make some signage directing people to my Etsy store & Instagram (well ahead of time, hence no expiry). Thanks!
