hi :) i used to reaalllyyyy enjoy making and editing videos when i was younger, because my old school district used to pay for wevideo. when i transferred districts, they nixed my account because i was no longer a student there. also, i am graduated now, so i'd have to fend for myself regardless now anyway.
i have imovie on my macbook air, but it doesn't really do it for me, yknow? are there any good free softwares anyone would recommend? it's not for anything professional, just for a silly goofy hobby :)

The r/videography moderators do not recommend using Wondershare Filmora. Wondershare are violators of the GPL and use code from open-source projects without adhering to the correct licenses. Hi!
I want to start doing content creation and want to make long-form type video essays. I’m remiss on what software to use for that other than Adobe (which is too expensive for me to afford) and CapCut (which I feel is really juvenile and you have to subscribe to access their video editor anyway).
I wanted to ask google but I don’t wanna be swayed by possibly sponsored articles.
What are some good editing softwares that aren’t too expensive or free. If it helps I’m also a soon to be college student, I know some softwares give discounts.

DaVinci Resolve if you're on PC. It has a Free version. The free version does what I need it to do. Has a lot of features available not locked behind a paywall. The Pro version has even more and it includes future updates and it's a one time payment. But free version should be all you need. Pro version is what film people use and such. Some say DaVinci Resolve has a steep learning curve... But since it was my first video editing software, I learned it just fine. It was actually easy. And there's lots of YouTube tutorials out there. I mainly just use the editing and publishing tab. But there's color grading and some other tabs that I've never used before. I think there's a sound mixed tab? And a media files tab? There's like 5 tabs at the bottom of the screen. And I only use 2 of them.

Hands down DaVinci resolve. It’s free but very powerful. Plus I used it for years on an older Mac and it worked way better and stable than Premiere Pro.
