I am in the process of turning part of what was a massive flower bed into a fire pit area. Just a solo stove so don’t need to build a fire pit itself, i was just going to put some kind of round slab in the middle for it to sit on and then a gravel area for seating around it.
A quick google suggests things like crushed limestone or pea gravel.
Can someone recommend something that works well - sturdy for seating and walking on, not going to go all over the place, plus good drainage ideally?

Hi I’m building a DIY 20’ x 20’ gravel patio for a fire pit area and Adirondack chairs surrounding it. Here’s my plan, want to double check if I’m missing anything:
-
Excavate the area about 3 in.
-
Tamp down the soil (I have a clay soil in my yard)
-
Put down geotextile fabric
-
Put edging in (aluminum edge)
-
Fill with 2 in of the gravel
-
Wet and tamp down
-
Fill additional inch of top layer of the gravel
My main questions:
-
Am I digging deep down enough?
-
is it ok to just use this one material rather than a separate layer of base crushed rock with minus rocks?
Pictured is the gravel im planning to use. Thank you!
