what is the best hacking book/course for beginners you have come across?
As you’ve said yourself the internet is very confusing, as such to ask for the best hacking course/book is an incredible challenge. I’ll gladly share my personal experience though. Stay away from Udemy, it’s mostly not worth it. Same goes for a significant amount of learn hacking in one long video from youtube. A repeating line in many resources is to stay curious and perhaps that’s more accurate than one may realise in the beginning. Further there is no shame in ripping course books as a starting point. in fact If I were to start over that’s what I’d probably do I’d rip the CEH v11 and just read that not even necessarily study it but experiment with all the topics in there as it outlined. then practice there’s many resources for beginners I’d suggest TryHackMe which helps you more along and takes you by the hand. hack the box has academy which seems great but I cannot speak to that when I started there weren’t that many helpful resources. then there BlueTeamlabs.online which is actually very cool for a general view as well. You shouldn't care about exam preparation books. Who should care about the knowledge. If you need a book like to pass some kidz CEH exam you shouldn't even think of doing the exam in the first place.
