In short: I live in a three story house next to the beach (~140 m2) which means that my kids carry sand into the house (can’t be avoided) and I have to vacuum across three stories and two staircases. In essence I vacuum more or less daily.
I currently have a Bosch cordless vac and a Miele corded vac. However I’m not really satisfied with the setup: The former has too little battery life and too little suction power and the latter being too much of a hassle with the stairs. Therefore I’m wondering if there exists a good hybrid between the two?
I was wondering something like a portable but corded vac good for the case? I don’t mind there being a ‘second’ compartment for the dust bin etc. that I have to carry around but on the Miele classic vacuum it’s simply a little too heavy to be a pleasure. Further I think I should be corded. I was thinking about a ‘backpack vac’ or whatever they’re called but might be too much of a hassle. Like the Nilfisk GD5.
Or maybe a smaller workshop vac from Bosch, Karcher, Makita etc (but the handheld ones are often battery powered?)
Located in Denmark - no budget.
Any advice or experience on the topic?
Thanks in advance!
Budget - $200
Areas - This is specifically for dog hair removal. 90% of the area is carpet, stairs, edges of the room, hard to reach places. Bonus - being able to clean dog hair in my car.
I am looking for a handheld vacuum recommendation that has a lot of strength for cleaning up dog hair on carpet (on stairs, along the edges, etc). I would like a corded one as they would normally imply a stronger vacuum. It's very tiring carrying my full size vacuum around to use an attachment to clean stairs, edges, etc. I have bought a couple handheld cordless vacuums in the passed and they have all been pretty mediocre, hoping I can break that cycle! Thanks in advance.
The current one I am considering is the Shark CH950UKT.

I'm looking for a handheld that can continue to work even after the battery dies... like most electric shavers
Looking for a handheld for my shed in the backyard to clean the seats and sofas occasionally and sometimes the floor. Any suggestion? Have been considering Makita and Black&Decker.
what's the best cordless handheld vacuum these days? the cheaper the better if it actually works. mainly need it for tight spots in my car (between seats, cupholders, etc), so a crevice tool and decent suction would be huge. would be ideal if it charges fast and has a washable filter. what are you all using that wont die after a year?
EDIT: I ended up going with the Ryobi One+, and I'm pretty happy with it. Its surprisingly powerful for the size and the battery life is quite good too. thanks for the suggestions!
I’ve seen Shark, Dyson and Black & Decker recommended.
Any thoughts on which won’t die on me within 2 years / have poor suction?
I'm looking for a good, reliable corded vacuum for the children to help with cleaning. It needs to be small, light and easy enough for a child to use, so I'm thinking a stick vacuum. I want corded do a good, consistent job on carpet.
Budget is secondary but ideally less than UK£200 (about US$260).
I'm looking for a recommendation for a small/handheld form factor vacuum with high suction power and cleaning. This would be for drawers and cabinets and crevices. I dont want something that needs to constantly recharge and instead can get plugged into either an outlet at home or the inverter in my car - so ideally under 1000w max draw but im open to just getting a 3000w+ beast that can only be used at home. The key for me is that it can get into tight places and has suction + precision. Most of the time this will be used on hard surfaces or occasionally car carpeting.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations. Also would prefer to keep this under $200 but again, if its reliable and a beast and meets the criteria ill pay more.
Edited to add: we use our hand vac mostly for sweeping up in the kitchen on a grouted tile surface, but wouldn't be opposed to using for car clean out and other detail areas (which would require a wand tool attachment)
We have gone through a number of hand vacs (the battery powered kind) but we end up hating them for one reason or the other (poor battery life, poor suction, pain to empty). Our latest one has no problem with suction but it spits anything tiny it picked up out the back. We're at the point where we're about to pay any price, even buy corded (which would suck), just to have something that won't end up in a landfill in 2 years.
I almost titled this post "A decent cordless hand vacuum that doesn't suck" but then realized that a "vacuum that sucks" is exactly what I want, hehe.
Anyway, many years back, I had a Dustbuster, and I think most people will recall that they were terrible. Didn't hold a charge, and even on full charge barely had any sucking power.
I'm looking for a small hand-vac to keep upstairs. Our light colored south facing house gets inundated with ladybugs in the autumn (when they come inside to hibernate) and spring (when they come out of hibernation) and it's annoying to have to constantly drag the regular vacuum around to deal with them.
I should mention that I'm not talking about just a couple ladybugs here and there... if that were the case, we'd pick them up and put them outside. I'm talking dozens upon dozens. Daily.
Anyway, after too much backstory, can anyone recommend a good hand-vac? Have they improved at all in the past 30 years?
Thanks!
I'm wanting to get a handheld (cordless preferred) to keep my desk area more tidy. What are your recommendations?
I have a house cleaning business, newly opened and would like to bring along a corded stick lightweight vacuum. I am thinking of the shark power detect ultra light stick vacuum. Any other options? Budget $300 .
This one looked really good, but that was before I read the 2★ and 1★ reviews about its weak power, inability to reach certain cracks due to the structure of its nozzle, and how the output air blows down so that it ironically pushes around the dust that you're trying to get at.
Any thoughts on a great hand vacuum, or is there no such thing? Or does anyone have this one?
PSA: This is a shill account. Check out that website. This was the first "guide" they ever put up... 11 months ago.
You probably arrived here like me via google. Check their post history - many posts with similar language. "the exact model I bought is the number 1 on this list". This person runs those websites and gets a cut if you click their amazon link.
I have no idea if this product is actually good, I'm here looking for info like you.

If I learned anything from this thread it's a corded one. He mostly talks about uprights and canisters, but maybe something in there will fit your needs.
I own the one you're looking at and it's not what I would call BIFL. Black and Decker makes pretty cheap stuff. It worked okay for about a year.
Hello, I recently got a job at a dealership, cleaning their loaner cars, and I'm looking for recommendations on a handheld vacuum to clean small messes and get into tight corners. That don't really need the big shop vac.
We have three dogs and kids. The cordless Dyson just isn’t cutting it anymore. So one that’s preferably good with dog hair. TIA
