I just got a one gallon cordless shop ac from Ryobi. It's perfect for what I need, cleaning dirt off the carpet before it gets ground in. Lightweight, small and plenty of suction. It uses the batteries I already have for everything else.

Dyson makes the best one imo, but the black and decker dustbuster is a good option if you're on a budget. You can find some good options in this thread

When I say portable, I don’t necessarily mean the absolute smallest call thing you can get, as I realize most of those have been poorly reviewed for battery life, power etc. I am just looking for something relatively handheld, and that has decent battery power in favor of using some large corded monstrosity like a shop vac.

I use a cordless DeWalt shopvac or my Dyson stick vac. I also have an Eufy H11 dustbuster type vacuum which is smaller, but it’s not as powerful as the other two - I use it mostly for quick chasing of tumblefluffs and vacuuming out my keyboard.

Got the Milwaukee Fuel Packout shop vac. It’s so good. I hated the power cord on the big shopvacs and how they always fall over. The milwaukee has a nice handle to move around while you’re working. I’ve ended up using it as my primary vac around the house for cleaning up spills and debris that I find. Especially good as a person with houseplants everywhere - there’s always leaves and dirt around. So good!
