I was thinking of getting a wireless headset as wired ones don’t seem to last so i was wondering what the best one would be in your opinion.
IGN says the best one is the Turtle Beach Stealth 500 but i haven’t heard many people talk about it so i was wondering if there is anything better or if the stealth 500 would be just fine
Hey guys,
After spending a week or so trying out different headsets, here are my honest reviews.
Headsets that I tried:
SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7x, Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max, Razer Kaira Pro, EPOS H6Pro (closed back), DROP+ EPOS PC38x (open back).
Steel Series Artis Nova 7: Great sound, great mic, good mic monitoring. However, the fit was not great. I'm personally not a huge fan of the headband design. I much rather prefer a solid piece over the silicone band design. I felt that if I were to look up or down rapidly, the headset might fall off. Also, they did not provide a lot of clamping pressure.
Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max: Great sound, great mic, great mic monitoring (even better than the SteelSeries). However, the headset has a VERY tight clamping force. The plastic housing of the headset also feels kinda cheap. The flip-to-mute mic is a great feature though.
Razer Kaira Pro: The worst headset of the bunch. Very muddy/fuzzy sound quality. Also, the mic indication light on my monitor screen stayed on. This would indicate that the mic was catching some sort of noise that I could not pinpoint. I even held my breath for an extended period of time as I thought that might have been the issue. The mic icon STILL stayed on. Maybe it was catching bluetooth feedback, I'm not sure.
EPOS H6 Pro (Closed Back). Great sound quality, great mic (flip-to-mute). However, the fit was almost TOO good. The great fit, combined with the leather ear cushions created an almost vacuum like feeling around my ears. I was kinda let down after trying these because people online made them sound god-tier. I wasn't blown away by any means but they are the best ones I've tried so far.
After trial and error, and a bunch of research online. I've unfortunately come to find out that gaming headsets are...well...gaming headsets. There is a ton of marketing behind these products and they pay content creators to try their products for free. The Razer Kaira Pro's for example were rated as the number 2 best xbox headset on a specific youtube video, which I could not disagree with more. Do not trust youtube reviews unless it is someone who has paid for the headset themselves.
Gaming headsets are also packed with a bunch of useless features that jack up the price, without improving the actual sound quality. The Razer Kaira Pro's for instance were $100 but their wired version was only $60. This means that the sound quality of the $100 set have the same sound quality as the $60 set. All the buttons and wheels on the ear cup (which I personally hate) are intended to be eye catching and convenient, but end up being a pain. I'd hate to say it, but if you want a quality headset with great sound, you can expect to spend $150+, or even 250+ if they are a wireless version.
The DROP+EPOS are in transit and will be here in 1-2 days. I'll be sure to edit this post once I try them out.
*EDIT*
PC38x's were great. Not so great for warzone though.(Thats basically all I play) The open backs are tough unless you have a really quite environment to play.
Audeze Maxwell: Right ear cup didnt have sound right out of the box. It briefly popped on for a second and the sound was great, then turned back off again.
[SOLUTION, Final Verdict]
I went back to the H6 pro's and used a SteelSeries GAMEDAC/AMP. Wow!!!! It is literally the best of both worlds. You get the benefits of an awesome wired headset(charging, latency, connectivity), combined with the mic monitoring and customization that the DAC provides. I didn't know that the DAC would work with the H6's but it definitely does! Also, you don't have to worry about that wire sticking out of the back of your controller. The headset cord goes into the DAC.
It took a while but I found the perfect combo!
See ya'll in the lobby!
