Your best of 2017

I only truly enjoyed RAW and The Blackcoat's Daughter. I really pondered over those more than anything else and rewatched them 3 times each. There are other good ones, but those two are the highlights IMO.

Best Horror Films Of 2017
This may have bee a Top 3 horror film of 2017 for me if not for that damn ending! Oh well, it's still a very good film, and you never know, you may actually like the ending! I'm guessing it's true to the novel, so it should please fans. ... After dying from a strange illness that she suffered for 3 years, a mother returns home to pick up her children.DirectorJoko AnwarStarsTara BasroBront PalaraeDimas Aditya · Very decent Indonesian mystery-horror. As with most Asian horror movies, it's mainly about ghosts - so lots of ghostly women with long black hair and jump scares, but it's all very well done.

January 12, 2018 - Two others I loved, Guillermo del Toro’s THE SHAPE OF WATER and Nacho Vigalondo’s COLOSSAL, are creature features that set out not to terrify you, but to examine unique and compelling relationships between women and unearthly beings. And a number of the movies that did make my list could be principally defined as dramatic thrillers, yet venture into truly scary and disturbing territory to the point where they can be assuredly categorized as horror.

January 16, 2018 - Lynch. Beware the Slenderman was really great, but I wasn't sure how to fit in a documentary on the list. Lastly, two of my favorite movies of 2017, A Ghost Story & Colossal, were sort of kind of almost but not quite horror movies, so I didn't include them, either.

The Best Horror Films Of 2017: 'Get Out,' 'Raw' And Much More
December 11, 2017 - 14. “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” Last year Netflix debuted Osgood Perkins‘ “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House,” one of 2016’s best horror movies, and this year A24 unleashed his follow up (which was actually filmed first). Perkins, the son of “Psycho” star Anthony Perkins, seems to innately understand horror, and this new movie might be even better than the first.

What's the best horror movie since 2017: Split, Get Out, Hereditary, The Quiet Place, Scream, or something else? - Quora
Answer (1 of 5): None of these other movies come close to hereditary in any sense. Storytelling, horror, suspense, acting, atmosphere, cinematography, anything. Hereditary isn’t just a great horror movie, it’s a great movie. It’s not a movie I enjoy watching and I don’t care to see it again, but...

The Ritual (2017) ⭐ 6.4 | Horror, Mystery, Thriller
February 9, 2018 - Secondly, this film ticks possibly the rarest box a horror movie is ever able to achieve these days, which is to be scary. I almost never get any rise in my heart-rate during a horror film any more, but that was certainly not the case here. I was invested in the story and the suspense had me on edge. The first 3/4 of the film are some of the best mystery, suspense, horror film watching I've done in years.

Get Out (2017) ⭐ 7.8 | Horror, Mystery, Thriller
October 13, 2025 - It is a shame that the film will likely not be regarded in the company of Academy Award potential nominees, because the directing and acting is honestly Oscar worthy. Again, no small feat for a horror movie that is also funny. In summary, this is a MUST SEE at the theater and one of the best films of the year.
