Best and Worst Horror Movies of 2019 - Horror Movie Talk
January 26, 2023 - Think cults are spooky? What about being drugged? Bright colors? Yea, this movie mashes up some of the most unused tropes and ideas into a terrifically horrific masterpiece. As director Ari Aster’s second hit horror movie, this is a ride and a half for the viewer.

Discussion

Let's create a list of our favorite horror movies based on how good they are! Consider factors like rewatchability, story quality, and overall effectiveness. This list should focus on how well the movies hold up today, considering them at face value, not on their legacy or influence on the genre.

Here's how it works:

  1. Comment below with your nomination for your favorite horror movie of the year in the title. Do not comment duplicate movie titles. If your favorite movie has already been mentioned, simply upvote that comment instead. Note: Release dates will be based on when a film has its theatrical release (US), not whenever it premiered at festivals. So for example, the winner of 2023 was Talk to Me, which premiered in October 2022, but didn't get a wide release until July 2023. This list will use the latter date.

  2. Upvote the movie title(s) you agree with.

  3. The single comment with the most upvotes will be crowned the unanimous favorite for the current letter. If a movie title is posted multiple times, only the comment with the most upvotes will be counted. This prevents users from influencing the results by upvoting multiple comments for the same movie.

So let's have it, what're your favorite movies of the year in the title?

Past winners:

  • 2023: Talk to Me

    • Runner up: When Evil Lurks

  • 2022: Barbarian

    • Runner up: Prey

  • 2021: The Night House

    • Runner up: Titane

  • 2020: The Dark and the Wicked

    • Runner up: Possessor

Best Horror Movies of 2019 — The Bloodlust
January 31, 2020 - The only film as clever as this one in 2019 was Parasite, & that’s the most lauded movie of the year. Not too shabby, One Cut of the Dead. This is maybe the best love letter to filmmaking to come out this decade, & yes, I’ve seen Hugo. Jordan Peele excels at so many things you almost want to hate him. How can someone be so good at both comedy & horror, AND ...

January 3, 2020 - Depraved Indie horror king Larry Fessenden wrote and directed this modern take on the Frankenstein tale about a PTSD-suffering army medic named Henry who spends his days in his Brooklyn laboratory creating a “man” named Adam out of borrowed body parts (Adam…see what he did there?). This may be Fessesnden’s best film to date and also includes great makeup FX by Brian Spears and Peter Gerner who are up for a Fangoria Chainsaw Award for their work.

r/movies on Reddit: What is the most terrifying movie of 2020 (so far), 2019, and 2018?
September 27, 2019 -

Haven’t seen a lot of new horror movies, but since Halloween is coming up, I’m in the mood to see some. But I personally wanna be terrified and know the top most terrifying movies from these years.

Hereditary scared me. The Ring scared me. I enjoyed the new Pet Sematary, wasn’t totally scared though. It Follows scared me. I’m trying to find the scariest ones!

It Comes At Night did not scare me.

None of the Annabelles, Conjuring, or Paranormal Activities scare me.

Or maybe ones I’ve missed from the past 10 years that are terrifying.

Let me know what you think!

10 Horror/Thriller Movies From 2019 That Set the Bar High for 2020 – The Impact
I prefer “Hereditary” over “Midsommar” but this movie has its signature moments that will not be forgotten (in a bad way) and it dives into the foreign folklore and culture in an aspect that makes it unusual, to say the least. Following the success of “Get Out” in 2017, Jordan Peele (known for Comedy Central’s series “Key and Peele” with Keegan-Michael Key), directed another horror movie that creates more questions than answers.

Best Horror Movies of 2019, Ranked: Scariest Movies to Watch from 2019 - Thrillist
January 17, 2020 - Release date: December 13 Cast: Laura Vandervoort, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Stephen McHattie Director: Jen & Sylvia Soska (American Mary) Why it's good: Some genre fans might say it's wrong to remake David Cronenberg, but hey, one of Cronenberg's very best movies (The Fly) is a remake, so it only seems fair. Plus it turns out that this remake of Cronenberg's fourth feature is pretty impressive in its own right as it updates the cult classic tale of sexuality, alienation, and infection. Where to watch it: VOD ... Release date: July 4 Cast: Martha Higareda, Richard Cabral, Barbara Crampton Director: Gigi Saul Guerrero (ABCs of Death 2) Why it's good: Hulu's "Into the Dark" horror film series has been a decidedly mixed bag -- although certainly worthy of a look if you dig the scary stuff -- but this entry ranks among the best of the bunch.

10 Best Horror Movies of 2019
January 3, 2020 - And while there were some decent franchise sequels (Annabelle Comes Home) and the now-requisite Stephen King adaptations — from Pet Sematary and the superior, if still kinda lackluster It: Chapter Two to the Kubrick cosplay of Mike Flanagan’s admirable Doctor Sleep — 2019 will mostly be remembered as the year that the recently crowned “next wave” names of horror beat the sophomore slump. Jordan Peele, Ari Aster and Robert Eggers all delivered solid second movies and confirmed their staying power (as did The Babadook‘s Jennifer Kent, who stellar revenge movie The Nightingale is required viewing regardless of what genre you’d categorize it as).
