Comforter that doesn't make noise - The Chat Board - The Well-Trained Mind Community
My bedding is driving me crazy! It's cold in our room so we have four blankets that are all heavy, so it's like being flattened under them each time I go to bed. I'd like to get a lighter weight comforter to replace a couple of the blankets. My only hesitation is that I always buy bedding thinkin... More on forums.welltrainedmind.com
Anyone have a truly plush down alternative comforter that sleeps cool?
I have an alpaca wool insert. I also love big fluffy blankets, but was struggling with temperature regulation and couldn't get down because of allergies. I spent a LOT of time searching on here. I was originally resistant to the alternatives to down/down alternative (silk, wool), but i freaking LOVE the alpaca wool insert. It is SO breathable. I didn't realize what I was missing. I couldn't go back to synthetic fibers because they just trap heat like crazy. It is definitely not as fluffy as down, but it is much fluffier than silk, it has nice weight, and i have layered it with nice cotton blankets. Someone else mentioned linen covers - I also have this on the insert, and think it helps quite a bit with breathability also. More on reddit.com
Looking for a duvet insert!
the polyester filling in down alternative comforters is basically the same no matter who you buy from. so if you already have the brooklinen DA insert and know you don't like it, you should probably think about getting a different material for the replacement. the only difference between yours and for instance the boll and branch one is just going to be the cotton shell More on reddit.com
Best duvet/comforter for dustmite allergies?
If your allergies are severe the best thing is to get materials that are not cotton or any fabric/fill material that will attract them. The best fill material for this is silk, alternative fill (plastic) or bamboo. For silk inserts you have three options: silk outershell, bamboo outershell, polyester outershell. Anything with a cotton outershell is something you'll want to avoid because silk naturally repels dust mites, but the cotton outershell most silk inserts come wrapped in do not. So I don't think SmartSilk would be the one you want to go with since they use cotton in all their models. Swiss Comfort is also another one to avoid since it's not only cotton outershell but down/feather which is a dust-mite attractor. I know you probably are on a budget but the best one you'll want to get is a silk insert with a bamboo outershell or a polyester outershell or just a regular all-bamboo comforter but those tend to run higher, I've found. If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option I think Your Moon on Amazon has a summer weight silk comforter that has an outershell that's bamboo for pretty cheap ($115 Queen size)---also an all-season weight one for $155 (Queen size). There are others that are more luxurious options (like Cozy Earth or Ocochi) that have bamboo outershell (or a silk outershell but those are crazy-expensive), so it is possible to find them but they tend to be more expensive. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any more questions :) I'm happy to help! More on reddit.com
What Is The Best Material For A Cooling Comforter?
There is no one best material for a cooling comforter, but there are a few that stand out as being the most desirable. Lightweight comforters made using down, silk, lyocell, bamboo viscose and cotton percale are all good choices. “Linen and cotton fabrics are more breathable and allow for a cooling effect, which is better if you run warm,” Dr. Abbasi-Feinberg says.

Is My Comforter Causing Night Sweats?
If the comforter you currently sleep with feels heavy or is especially thick, it could be contributing to night sweats. To determine if your comforter is the culprit, try sleeping without it for a few nights to see if your night sweats subside.
