r/IndoorPlants on Reddit: What are your favourite indoor houseplants?
July 28, 2024 -

I used to dislike plants, but now that I live with my boyfriend for over a year and he's totally into plants, I've actually begun to love plants as well. At the moment, we have a monstera and 2 lemon plants, and yesterday we bought our first calathea (I am in awe of this plant, absolutely adore it). Now I am wondering, what is your favourite houseplant and maybe you have any recommendation for us for other plants that are lovely to have and take care for as well? We still have to fill up 2 empty pots so I'm super curious!

Best plants for reducing indoor humidity?
Plants are not going to reduce humidity to appreciably effect your window condensation. Any plant you put in place is going to need watering and that will if anything increase the localized humidity and compound the problem. This is an issue of window quality (single vs double pane), the general humidity of your home, and the interior/exterior temperature difference. Your best bet will be to get one of those window film kits that add a layer of heatshink plastic to create an air barrier. Wipe the condensation off the window and dry the area thoroughly, then apply the kit. Alternatively, you can try running a dehumidifier in that area, to pull the localized humidity down to about 35-40% More on reddit.com

What are some indoor plants that are beginner friendly?
Pothos is really hard to kill. It will live for ages just in a glass of water. I have a small piece that I had left over from one of my kids rooms, just basically a leaf with 2 inches of stem. I stuck it in one of my fishtanks and a month later cut it in two because it had grown so many new leaves and roots. It is now two pothos plants in two different fishtanks. Love it. Snake plants are easy if you don't overly water them. They do better with a little neglect and a moderate amount of light. North windows are good. Ficus has always been a hard one for me to find the right balance-- I get it to grow in a spot and then suddenly all the leaves drop and it croaks. I dunno. Ferns are often picky. I would also suggest aloe vera, another one that likes it on the dry side and fairly bright. Useful and attractive but not too sharp to deal with unlike most cacti. More on reddit.com

Guys any good house plants suggestions for a beginner?
Before getting plant you should take into account what kind of indoor environment you have and then look for plants whose needs can be easily fulfilled in said placement. Some plants don't need watering that often but need direct sun. On the other hand, some plants survive in shade but need frequent watering. Any plant can be easy when environment is correct, and hard if it isn't. Research is key. Right plant for right place. More on reddit.com

Best plants to grow indoors – Rain Organica
March 25, 2020 - Let it dry out between waterings, and let this vine trail from a hanging basket or cover an indoor trellis - my personal experience with ivy is it needs more light than most sites claim, and low to moderate light is recommended. Unusual (which always earns a star in my book), does well in a dry environment, and is VERY tolerant of low light. "They" claim if you can't grow anything, you can grow this plant.
