I loved the look and appeal of the Magic Keyboard but not the price tag or the fact that I’d have to buy a separate case to protect the actual iPad (not brave enough to go without a case). I ended up going with the Logitech Combo Touch and I LOVE IT. The biggest plus side for me (other than the full case and the price point) is that it has function keys and I use them alllll the time. That truly makes it feel like a laptop It’s so nice to be able to take the keyboard off when I just want to stream and don’t need it. When I was doing my research, people complained about not being able to use it on your lap like a laptop but I haven’t really found that it’s a problem yet. The few times I’ve used it on my lap, I just don’t put the kickstand out as far and it fits just fine More on reddit.com

I use an esr folio case, it’s an awesome, budget friendly case. I just recently picked up a Magic Keyboard, I went back and forth a ton on different options, I leaned towards the Magic Keyboard because I didn’t want to deal with the stand of the Logitech keyboard cases, and any clone of the Magic Keyboard has its own battery and is Bluetooth, so it’ll drain your iPad even more, and require another device to be charged. I use my iPad on the Magic Keyboard majority of the time now, but I still use the folio case too. It took me a few months to finally buy a keyboard, the cost is intimidating but for myself, it’s worth every penny. I don’t have a laptop, personally that’s what my iPad functions as, and the keyboard makes it that much more enjoyable for me. And I can still take it off quick to jot down notes for work, or take my iPad alone when I want to go read…etc. Magic Keyboard won’t work with a case, so if you want a case on your iPad, the Logitech keyboards will probably be a better fit for you. I use my apple pen a lot to annotate my work because I prefer it. My current case is the typical tri-foldable one that elevates the iPad slightly so I can write better, with no keyboard.
But I was thinking of upgrading to a case with a keyboard as I type as well. But most of the cases with keyboards are inconvenient for annotating comfortably. Pls share some advice if you have any :)

I had a similar issue, went with the Apple Smart Folio (the simple one, without keyboard) plus an external BT keyboard. Couldn't be happier. The cover allow for two positions (three if one also counts lying flat) but is not heavy-duty, not at all. What it is light and slim and unobtrusive, dead simple to put and remove in an instant while still protecting the front and back of the iPad from scratches and everyday small bumps. I don't ask for more. The BT keyboard is cheap (Logi K380) while being good enough for me to type for hours. I don't use it when lying in ned or on a couch, but on any table, with the freddom to place it at whatever angle I fancy next to the iPad. My only regret? The money I wasted on "cheaper" non-Apple covers before testing it ;)
