I got a Keychron K5 Max recently, and replaced the keys with some Apple-esque key caps, and this definitely feels soooo gooood :) The only thing I miss from the OEM keyboard is Touch ID. Answer from _______o-o_______ on reddit.com

This is mainly for those who do use them for their work since you’re more likely to want something either more comfortable or feature rich than a casual user. At work i have a mac studio and they gave me a generic windows logitech keyboard and magic mouse which i couldn’t stand so i brought in one of those old Apple Pro Keyboards and i forgot how much i like this keyboard. It’s just really comfortable to me and a lot harder to accidentally press a key compared to the magic keyboard my imac at home has. One thing im surprised apple doesn’t have is a backlit keyboard since i like to work in the dark in my office, but since there’s usb ports on the back of the keyboard i put one of these little lights on it lol.

I’m curious what non apple ones you all are using. I’d imagine touchID is what keeps a lot of people on the magic keyboard because that’s why i can’t justify replacing my keyboard at home (that, and i still want it color matched)

r/mac on Reddit: Apple Magic Keyboard vs Logitech MX Keys Mini, which should I choose
May 18, 2025 -

Hi everyone,

So I am starting a new job as a graduate software engineer and I have been given an option to choose my computer setup. I was given option to choose laptops, mouse and keyboards. For laptops I had to choose between Macbook Pro (2023) 14", Macbook Pro (2023) 16" and Dell Precision 5570 (2022) and I was going for Macbook Pro (2023) 14" because it's a hybrid role so I thought it would be easier to carry and I have a Macbook air at home as well as a Mac Mini at my current workplace ( I also have a windows laptop but I don't usually use it except for when I need to leave my desk for meeting ) so I am using MacOs for everything and I had decided to choose Logitech Mouse over Magic Mouse simply because I like the roller and stuff.

What I can't decide is the keyborad that I should choose. At my current workplace I have a normal (not logitech but not apple) keyboard with bulkier keys and obviously at home I just use the keyboard attached to my laptop so I haven't actually ever used a apple keyboard. I already know that I don't want one with numpads because I don't use numpads ever and I am kind of familiar with the keys for typing so I don't have that problem but since I haven't used either I don't know which is a better option for long hours of typing. I have read different things about which ones people thing is easier to type but I don't know how that would differ for my usecase as a programmer who needs to type for long hours. Also I will be on hybrid role so it will be nice to carry the keyboard home with the laptop but I don't mind not being able to do that as I do use the laptop keyboard at home I guess.

I would love everyone's opinions on it and even on the mouse choices if I am missing something because I haven't used a magic mouse personally either so if it's a good one for programming then I would like to know that as well though keyboad is what I am truly confused about.

Thank you in advance for you help!

Edit:

I just want to clarify that I don't get to specify the exact models and the company has just given me 4 options for keyboard and 2 for mouse and said that I need to choose one of them. Like they said you can add and extra note or choose other but I honestly don't want to be too demanding because I am joining them as a graduate so want to choose from whatever they gave. So a choice from these would be really helpful although I do like the other options everyone mentioned and might buy them for personal use someday.

These are the keyboard choices they wrote (I already decided I don't want the numpad ones because I don't use the numpad unless they have a huge advantage I am missing)

  1. Apple Magic Keyboard

  2. Apple Magic Keyboard with num pad

  3. Logitech MX Keys

  4. Logitech MX Keys Mini

These are the mouse choices they wrote (I was thinking on choosing Option 2)

  1. Apple Magic Mouse

  2. Logitech MX Master 3s

They also said -> Please note: exact models may change based on availability and shipping at time of joining. So I guess I can't be sure that these are the exact LogiTech models we will get.

I have been searching on Amazon, but I can't find anything. I already have both the magic keyboard with and w/o a numpad, I simply got bored of them.

I am looking for a keyboard that is creamy sounding, high profile, has cool lights, and for the love of god has a command key in the correct spot. The only thing I've found have been the Keychron keyboards, but I really don't want to shell out $200 on a keyboard for Mac.

Does anyone know of any keyboards that might fit this criteria? or maybe can someone help me build one (cause i dont know where to even start).

Hello,

I am looking for a nice Mac keyboard that works well for 60% office use (writing mails and texts, but if spreadsheet, etc), 30% video editing (da Vinci and premiere), ans 10% programming (vs code, Xcode).

I already have a Logitech Mx 3 mouse and I like it, tried the craft and mini and they were fine, but explicitly don’t necessarily need one from Logitech.

Open to any brands, should be wireless with backlight and available in Europe.

I quite like the original M1 Pro keyboard. Doesn’t have to be full sized, small keyboard is better for traveling, and you have more room on the desk but on the other hand, you have a numpad that could be useful.

I’m looking forward to your suggestions, thank you very much! 😊

Hey guys, so I'm gonna be getting the MBP by the end of this week. I wanted to know, If I should get a keyboard and mouse for it or it's not needed. As I'm a college student, I'm only gonna use it for my college stuff and movies. Is it too extra or do people use that stuff?

Hi everyone!

I recently bought a Mac Mini, and now I need to get a keyboard for it. I’d mostly use the keyboard for browsing the internet and everyday tasks (I probably won’t be gaming on it).

My main requirements are that the keyboard should be slim (similar to a laptop keyboard), fully compatible with the Mac Mini, wireless, and have an ISO layout.

I’ve looked around a bit, and these are the ones that caught my eye:

• Logitech MX Keys Mini • Apple Magic Keyboard (USB-C) • Logitech MX Mechanical Mini • Keychron K3 Max Low Profile

I live in Europe, so please take that into account.

What do you think would be the best option? Should I go with one of these, or would you recommend something else? I have the least experience with Keychron keyboards, as I’ve never seen one in person. What’s the quality of their products like?

I'm buying a Mac Studio and want advice on the best keyboard for it. The Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad seems like a good option, except it doesn't appear to have legs to prop it up at a better angle. I don't like keyboards that lie completely flat.

So, what other good options are there? I love the feel of the Magic Keyboard on my MacBook Pro 14, so I don't want anything with stiffer switches. Any and all advice appreciated.

Update: I went with the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and it's actually at a good enough angle on my desktop. Trying it in the store while standing up gave a wrong impression. It's excellent and quite comfortable for long typing sessions. Feels exactly like typing on my MacBook Pro.

Hello everyone!! I just got my first Mac Mini M4, and although my HyperX keyboard works great, I'd like something new, specifically designed to work with macOS. Which, in your personal experience, is the best keyboard and mouse for macOS?

P.S. I'm writing a lot. I don't play games. I love LED lighting.

I want to start using a keyboard because at this rate of usage I will break my built in laptop keyboard far before my computer breaks. I do a fair bit of programming and stuff and I haven't used a mechanical keyboard before but I am inclined to switch. I have looked at a few different options but there are so many so I thought I'd try asking reddit. What mid priced keyboards have y'all found to work well?

Hello,

Sorry if the question has already been asked multiple times.

I'm a developer, so I'm going to use the keyboard / mouse everyday all the time.

I was going to buy a smart mouse / keyboard , but then I saw some people talking about Logictech MX keys.

What about the mouse ?

Now I'm lost, what do you recommend ?

I know it's a matter of preference , so everyone's opinion is valuable to me .

N.B: The company is gonna for it , so I'm concerned about the quality/practical aspects and maybe selling value (if I want to do so in a few years)

Thanks in advance

Looking to get a Keyboard to accompany my Mac Mini. Do you all have any preferences or recommendations?

Currently using a Dell Wireless Keyboard (provided by my office). It’s nothing fancy, gets the job done, but with BF around the corner, I wanna try to see if I can get something “better”.

Looking for something “Fancy” in a sense of maybe some RGB, more Ergonomic, interchangeable keycaps + durable?

I have seen Keychron K3/K10 & Logitech MX recommended online.

Personally, I don’t think I can tell the difference in latency in keyboards (don’t play FPS), the most reaction I need is probs in MOBA?

NOTE: not sure if this matters, I prefer a ANSI Layout

Thanks for any Input!! :)
