Hi friends, I have been baking for a long time now cakes & muffins, simple pastries, cookies, breads & rolls, sourdough & instant yeast. I run the gamut, but have been really into baking as much household bread as possible the last few years, mostly this is simple sourdough loafs, but have also done deli rye, focaccia, and others on occasion. Anyway, I have dreamed since starting my bread journey to grow my own wheat, and have ventured down that path, hopefully to be planted this fall harvested next year. I have also decided that in the interim I want to start purchasing wheat berries instead of flour due to the shelf stability, as well as the flavor profiles of freshly ground flour. All of this to say I need a grain mill because the blender just isn't going to cut it, but the cost is a little dicey as i am still starting with this side of things, and I also have a limited amount of counter space so another dedicated appliance isn't ideal. Ultimately will be starting with rustic loaf breads, but eventually may even want to bolt my flour and do cakes or pastries, and pastas. So my question, if you choose to answer it, is that kitchenaid makes a stand mixer attachment for grain milling, and it is about half the price or less of other powered grain mills. It would be ideal money and space wise, but is it that much worse than an electric stone mill like a mock mill or komo? Does anyone have any experience comparing the two? Also do any mills have the ability to bolt the flour as you grind it? Or is that just not something that exists for a household price? Any brands suggested on the lower price end for standalone that are really quality? Thank you all! And thank you for existing in such a niche space!!
