I have triplets and We had to rearrange the way we did things. Keep in mind you will not want to take your babies on public transportation and expose them to the public. They will be preemies and we were under strict advice from our doctor to keep them home for the first six months or so and limit our contact with others until they had several vaccinations on board because with premie babies a simple cold can be deadly and after watching them fight for their life in the NICU, you are not going to want to take that chance on public transportation. I was essentially homebound until they were about 9 months old and able to fit in a stroller. In the meantime I had to shop online Walmart and then do grocery pick up after my husband was home or on the weekends. My husband and I would trade off watching the babies while we ran errands on weekends and occasionally he had to take a day off work to take care of things that we had to take care of that couldn’t wait until the weekend. Also for doctors appointments it took two of us. We also had a really rely on our friends and family to assist us with stuff in the beginning. As far as diaper bag, We really got by just fine with a backpack. It was a backpack style diaper bag and only held two bottles but The bottles have lids so it didn’t matter if they were in a bottle holder. As far as feeding three babies while you’re out, unless you have help, it’s just not a realistic expectation. Everything you thought you knew about babies from having a singleton You will soon find does not apply when you have triplets. I had three older children so I thought I knew what I was walking into and I got schooled real fast by these three new little souls! Nothing was the same. Nothing that worked for me with my single baby worked for having three of them. Answer from Koharagirl on reddit.com

My husband and I are expecting our first baby, and we're at a loss of where to even start with diaper bags. We have plenty of friends with kids, but every one seems to have a gripe about washability, durability, etc. None seems truly satisfied with their purchase other than just having enough pockets. We know they don't generally make them like the used to, but we plan on having two kids, so something that will be able to hold enough stuff and last long enough for a toddler and a newborn to two toddlers would be great! Most bags these days come with a changing pad either attached or just slides inside and insulated bottle pockets. We plan on breastfeeding so an insulated pocket is a must! We don't know the gender this time around so neutral options are appreciated; besides, it's gotta match every outfit, haha!

Question: best diaper bag and why?
I have a $50 backpack style one off Amazon. It’s so good sometimes I use it to pack for work trips lol. It has 19 pockets spread through 5 compartments and even insulated bottle pockets. I don’t think you need a fancy $200 diaper bag unless you really want one More on reddit.com

Honestly - we use a normal backpack that we already had. It'd be nice if it had more pockets, but sometimes the best purchase is the one you don't have to make. More on reddit.com

Favorite diaper bag (backpack)?
I have the Dagne Dover backpack and it works well for us. That said, I agonized over the choice and then I don’t really think about it now - it’s just a backpack that we throw everything in, and we use a belt bag for most short outings. But it’s held up very well! More on reddit.com

Do I need a diaper bag?
Diaper bags are useful for parents because they’re equipped to organize everything your baby might need, unlike a large tote or purse. Most modern diaper bags are designed with specific compartments to make grabbing your essentials easier and faster – no more digging through the bottomless pit of a purse.

What is the best material for a diaper bag?
When looking for a diaper bag, we suggest finding one made of a durable material that’s easy to clean on the inside and the outside. Fabrics like neoprene and nylon are water-resistant and can easily be wiped down with a clean microfiber cloth. Vegan leather is another great option.

October 13, 2010 - I recently got the Skip Hop Duo Deluxe -- it's HUGE! I haven't really used it yet, but I did pack all the baby essentials to take to the hospital in it. I can't imagine there would be a larger diaper bag than this. I also like all the nifty pockets and the way it straps easily onto a stroller.

Baby Diaper Bag Guide: The Diaper Bag Buying Guide | Crate & Kids
A truly versatile diaper bag backpack can be converted into three styles—a backpack, crossbody or purse— so that any parent or caregiver can carry it in a way that’s most comfortable for them. Durable and wipe-able fabrics make life so much easier. We love vegan leather, which resists stains and wipes away clean with a microfiber cloth. You’ll want a roomy interior pocket for larger items, side pouches for water bottles or baby bottles, and an easy-to-access outer pocket for smaller items you want to grab at a moment’s notice, like a pacifier.

I'm expecting triplets and have an older child. My husband will be away most of the day and we don't have a vehicle all the kids would fit in anyway. We literally bought a sedan two days before finding out it was triplets, we had to move to a larger apartment, and we needed a washer and dryer to be able to cloth diaper so the budget is shot for now. This means I'll be doing a lot of walking and public transportation with 4 kids because we don't have anyone here to help. It's required to be able to fully collapse the stroller for the buses here and I couldn't find a triple stroller that would work with so we have a double and I'll be wearing the third baby.

Most of the bags I've seen when searching for extra large diaper bags specifically say they only hold two bottles. That's not going to work. Even a trip to Walmart involves two buses, the subway, and a decent walk so it takes hours.

I have another concern though. My son will be 9 years old when these babies are born. He has autism and isn't yet able to be fully toilet trained. He can carry a small bag with his own snacks and water but he has a congenital heart defect and can't really carry much more than that without overstressing him. Which means I also need to carry a spare pair of pants and pullups for him.

I just want to make a suggestion that you didn’t ask for but maybe didn’t think of. Look into grocery delivery in your area and if you don’t have it, consider getting amazon prime so that nearly anything you could need can come to you rather than you having to pack up four kids and going to it. I only had twins and good lord that first year just the thought of taking them out was hard enough. Doing it requires so much planning and time. And I want to echo the statement that you will likely have preemies and it isn’t safe for them to be out in public for quite awhile. Now, if none of this is possible I am sure you’ll find a way to make it all work (gotta do what you gotta do) but if you can get groceries delivered and have other essentials delivered with prime, you’ll save yourself a lot of stress. 💜

Best Diaper Bags Comparison: I Tried 7 Popular Brands
August 6, 2025 - Unlike the more structured options from Enya Mond and Dagne Dover, I appreciate how this bag easily expands and adapts to whatever amount of stuff I put into it. The one downside to consider is the magnetic closures, which can be a little harder to navigate than a traditional zipper. But for me, the easy-to-wash material and design make this one of my top picks. ... Overall Rating: 4/5 Pros: Large capacity, insulated side pockets Cons: The larger space can make it harder to organize. The 6 Best Diaper Bags in 2025 | Reviews by Wirecutter
August 11, 2025 - The Ruvalino Diaper Bag Backpack is one of the least expensive bags we tested, and it’s one of the most popular diaper backpacks online (at the time of publication, there were close to 34,000 ratings on Amazon). This bag is praised for being affordable, versatile, and functional, and it can be carried as a backpack or a tote. It has the most pockets of any bag we tested. Excluding two pen/pencil holders, the Ruvalino bag boasts 19 pockets. Two large zippered compartments (both of which have additional internal pockets) can hold diapers, wipes, snacks, lunch, and extra clothing, while two elastic side pockets provide easy access to a baby bottle or an adult-size water bottle.
