You probably don't want that much light on at all times. The ambient lighting that comes in some cars from the factory tends to be just a few individual LEDs to illuminate the footwells and console, not strip lighting. Think like 20 lumens, not hundreds. Answer from AKADriver on reddit.com

Probably something like Sylvania but they're pretty expensive compared to the average ebay or amazon stuff. superbrightleds.com also has a bunch of stuff, and I've bought from them before. Things to look out for: Color temperature (I prefer warm white around 3000k to pure white about 4000k, but anything much higher looks blue). Actual lumen output. LEDs are about 100 lumen per watt, so if some cheap ebay led says 1000 lumens but only pulls 1 watt, you know it's bullshit. Incandescent lights are about 15 lumens per watt, so a 10w incandescent dome light would put out about 150 lumens. (note that a lot of that light is wasted upwards with no reflector) Also, leds are directional, so if your dome lights have reflectors you can use double sided leds, but if not, you'll use single sided and point them down. My rear dome light actually mounts vertically, so the tip of the light is what shines down, so make sure whatever you buy will work in the orientation you need it to fit. I bought some cheap reverse lights and the picture online showed them pointing a certain direction relative to the locking pins in the bayonet mount. I bought them because they would be most efficient in my reflector. Well, when they arrived they were 90° to that and weren't very bright. I actually pulled them apart and rebuilt them rotated 90°

Are there any good recommendations for interior LED bulbs? I want to swap mine out for brighter light and lower power draw. My wife's car has them and I like the way they look.

r/cars on Reddit: Best LED kits (strips? tubes?) to install colored ambient lighting

I really want to install ambient lighting to my 2013 Acura ILX and get it to look somewhat like this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/theacphotography/16033940826/in/photostream/

or at least this: http://www.9thgencivic.com/forum/attachments/lighting/9169d1342659619-diy-better-interior-ambient-lighting-imageuploadedbyautoguide1342659615.906906.jpg

Most of the kits I've been finding come with 4 strips, which would work great if I only wanted to illuminate the footwells or the underseat area. But I also want to put lighting in more visible areas like under the hood of the dashboard, in the cupholders, and maybe some on the doors, but I don't know how to do that without having there be an ugly visible LED strip.

I'm totally confused as to what kind of products I should get for this type of setup and I'm not even sure if it's possible unless it's factory made. Whatever I get, I plan on installing it myself to get the positioning right, and then taking it to a mechanic so that the wiring won't be visible.

If anybody can help me with out with what kind of kits/products I should buy, I would really appreciate it. I'm looking for pink lighting primarily, but would prefer to be able to change the color. Also, I don't care if the lights flash or pulse along with music, but it would be a bonus if that setting was available.

Thanks in advance!

Put them in my Mazda CX-5 because it's all the rage right now. And I like upgrading shit. Turns out: I don't like them. A good word for the light they produce: stark. Cold would be another good word. It's like an operating room, but not in a good way. I replaced the front and while reading the manual to replace the rears I noticed it wasn't as easy to read the pages. Because: stark. We don't really read in our cars so big deal, right? Still...
Before anyone asks: yes, I got the right ones. They are white, not blue.
Those warm factory incandescents are going back in soon.
Am I alone? I feel I must be because I've never seen anyone say this.

I have a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser. A lot of people dislike this car, but that makes me like it even more. All making fun aside... Could anyone savvy let me know if these ones will work in the Cruiser? Or post links to some that will? There are some drop down selections on the add the cart area, and I don't know what I'd have to select for those, for my car.

I'm looking to replace pretty much all the bulbs with LEDs but can't find a reliable source and brand other than Philips who just sells Halogen for that model and that's for just Headlights and not totally convinced they actually fit the Car.
