Loose Lay LVP cons?
Loose lay vinyl install. What does it really need?
Does anyone have any experience with loose lay vinyl planks? Can they be as easy to install as it looks?
Very happy with Armstrong vinyl planks in our cabin. Stand up to sand, dogs, kids really well.
Laid over 1000 square feet in a day. By myself.
More on reddit.comKarndean loose lay vinyl flooring to be DIY installed next weekend. Any installation tips or do’s/don’ts from your experience with this flooring?
It's super easy to install, just make sure you get a tight fit next to the baseboards and doors.
A countour guage is very good to have for threshold edges, as well as a Dremel tool to cut more complicated bits. And a combo square to do your scores for snapping planks.
We worked center of the rooms out, after picking a plumb line that "felt" centered, as our space wasn't square.
We were very fastidious about cleaning every spec of dust off the floor. The day after it was down I noticed one plank was telegraphing a small bump. Luckily the product is easy enough to pop up individual planks and there was a little pebble like just a couple millimeters, so Swiffer and vacuum constantly and only wear socks if you can, no pebbles can hide in your shoe treads.
It's been awhile since we put it in, but I think you need to acclimate it inside for a week? Should be in the product sheet.
Otherwise it's very easy and we learned a fair amount from the karndean videos on YouTube. I've done a click lock lvp floor before as well, this is much simpler and feels far more solid underfoot, none of that weird hollow step feeling.
More on reddit.comI've been doing some research on flooring while I'm doing a full basement Reno in my house and have settled firmly on LVP. My hang-up now is on the type.
A few years ago we put down loose-lay LVP in my parents basement and it was piss-easy for amateurs like us to install, and has held up amazingly for about 5 years of being a second kitchen/kids play area that gets very regular use.
I have been browsing this sub for a few months now and have seen tons and tons of LVP, but very little loose-lay. Cost and performance-wise, they seem comparable, but installation seems a million times easier, and maintenance is infinitely easier since individual planks can be removed.
I guess my question is, what downsides am I missing? Why isn't loose-lay used more? Have any of you had bad experiences with it?
