r/Bedding on Reddit: Any guidance around "luxury" sheets?
October 14, 2024 -

Hi all,

I'm finally ready to spare no expense to make my bed as comfortable as possible, but am having trouble sorting through all the "best of" lists out there for sheets.

I've tried Brooklinen and wasn't a fan.

I was about to pull the trigger on Cozy Earth, but then read a number of reviews saying there were longevity issues.

I'm looking at Quince and Boll and Branch, but I'm not really sure what to go with, or if there's another brand I'm missing.

In terms of specific needs, my husband occasionally gets overheated when he sleeps. It would also be good to have something fairly stain-resistant, due to kids and whatnot.

Thanks for any guidance you can give.

We have a client that needs 20 sets of bedding.

Musts - need to wash in hot water

Does not want to look like hotel bedding - interesting colours could be a plus.

No Ironing

No flax

We are thinking cotton bedding and linen duvets unless anyone has any recommendations

From what we've researched - maybe Frette or Sferra for the cotton bedding

Could look into McCaw Allen Irish Linen - really open to searching out the option fits the needs.

We would like all the bedding to be grouped by a trim or embroidery to identify area. (We could get this done custom after)

Anything we aren't thinking about would be a plus - ie pillows/duvet inserts.

Another question - the client wants to do the Euro style of two folded duvets in a king. Are we doing two twin XL or should we go larger due to folding the duvets.

I agree with u/merseykat that if you're going into the true 'luxury' category of bedding you won't want to wash them on hot and that warm wash will be the max you'll want to wash such sheets at (delicate cycle/dry, essentially). If your clients also do not want flax and wish for 'crisp' sheets that don't require much ironing then linen will pretty much be out of the question as linen wrinkles as a feature (and all linen is made from flax), and while percale cotton needs ironing far more than cotton sateen, percale cotton is what most hotels use for their 'crisp/smooth' texture that most know. Sateen cotton is more 'silky-soft' and is usually the crowd favorite of most people in the world, I would say (especially higher thread-count sateen). Embroidery is nice to look at, but as someone with sensitive skin I cannot abide sleeping with lace trims or anything that rubs against my skin even the slightest bit when I sleep, so if your clients are looking for sheets that are going to be used then I would not recommend fancy-looking sheets unless they want to use them for decoration-only, you know? Most brands that are considered luxury are ones like Sferra, Frette, Amalia Home, Pratesi, St Geneve, Matouk, Letto, etc. and I would highly recommend getting as many swatch samples (or visiting a local linen shop that has the samples in-store) before making any purchases. Usually 'the best' cotton fabrics (imo) are Giza or Sea Island cottons (extra-long staple length) in either percale cotton (more crisp and smooth), sateen cotton (warmer but very soft) or a cotton/silk mix (usually the most expensive but most fussy). You could also go full silk but that sometimes is not the best as it can more easily wear down and has to be babied when washed (always cold wash, special detergent and usually low/air dry). If allergies are an issue/skin sensitivities then the best fabrics to use are either full-silk (Castello Home or Amalia Home has some silk options that look quite nice) or bamboo as they work best in those situations, though for bamboo it's a bit more challenging to find a really higher-end version (like SDH Legna, which is a crowd-pleaser for many), but again, both will need to be washed with cold/warm wash. As for duvet inserts/pillows, most really adore (for luxury homes) Eiderdown pillows/duvet inserts and they will definitely break the bank if you go that route, otherwise brands like Frette will have some really nice options for goose down if they want the 'light and fluffy' look in their beds (but will have to have a colder room temp to be able to sleep under very comfortably if their humidity levels where they live is semi-high). If allergies are an issue, though, wool or silk tend to work well for allergy suffers and are hypoallergenic (but cannot be washed), so keep that in mind, too. Hope this helps and good luck :) P.S. If you go with high-end luxury bedding, especially for sheets, you won't be looking at many options with color, especially really nice Giza cottons from brands like Frette, etc. Most color options tend to be only via special order companies, so if your client is looking for Giza cotton sheets that are Fuchsia then chances are they'll have to special order that and there's a possibility that the quality of the sheets might be degraded by the dying process.

Okay, so.... most of the true luxury sheeting brands are going to specify a Cold water wash. If your client washes those in hot water, then it's going to be at their own risk. IMHO they could get away with a Warm wash/cold rinse, but Hot? Especially allergy-level Hot which is minimum 130F for the entire wash cycle? *smh* Usually the only brands that say Hot water wash are going to be those that also supply the hotel trade (like Mascioni.) But hotel brands are likely going to be white only. That's how their manufacturing is set up, unless you are going to do full-on custom. The honest answer to the "no ironing" is - in reality - "how much wrinkling is your client going to be okay with?" FYI, sateen weave sheets will wrinkle less than percale, but even then there are variations among brands and even within a given brand's model lines. Some sateens wrinkle more, some less. But there are still going to be some wrinkles. If they don't like wrinkles, and don't want to iron, then they do not want linen. With linen, wrinkles are a feature, not a bug. Not to be snarky or anything, but... does your client know anything at all about bedding? Do they even know whether they want/like percale vs sateen? What kind of sheeting do they sleep on now, and what do they like or dislike about it? Or did they just see some pretty photos in Architectural Digest and say "we want something like that, find it please" ? And I am not even going to ask why they need 20 complete sets, lol.

I've spent 2 hours digging for this answer and i've given up. Lots of conflicting info idk what to choose.

I love cold feeling sheets. I sleep naturally very hot even though i live in a cold climate. I love hotel cool sheets that are freezing when you get into bed. I love cold pillowcases etc etc. You get it.

What should i be looking at? Realistically i just want to be cold and comfortable. I love the feel of linen but ive seen very few good reviews of them. $300 what's the best options?

some ive thought about: Crate and Barrel, Red Land Cotton, , 4 seasons / Marriot Set

Hope this is ok to ask. I am looking for recommendations on the most ultra luxury, thick high quality bedding that feel amazing and last a long time. I know that is a big vague, but I don't know much about the different bedding types as there aren't stores near me that I can go and feel the difference, but I am just looking for ultra high quality sheets. I am willing to spend up to $500 and more if the quality is worth it. I have ordered "egyptian cotton" sheets online, but upon receiving them, the bedding feels cheap and thin so I returned them. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Next sheets I will try:

  • Coyuchi (top contender)

  • Kirkland (second contender)

  • Quince

  • Frette

  • Lands End

  • Italic

  • Sheets from a hotels company like the four seasons bedding store or ritz Carlton bedding store.

Original Post:

It seems like everything is so heavily marketed and influenced. Has anyone recently bought sheets that they believe are truly high quality? Looking for very smooth percale sheets if possible.

I’ve gone through a few brands:

  • The Company Store: They recently sold to Home Depot. People say quality has now gone down hill. The customer service email on their website is even down. Looks like they’re still in transition to Home Depot customer service.

  • Brooklinen: instagram brand and poor quality

  • Red Land Cotton: Very rough, not a whole lot of options. Poor customer service and return policy.

Company I have tried and likes

  • LL Bean - I had these for about 4 years before they ripped. I like these more than anything I’ve tried.

  • Parachute - got these after LL Bean sheets ripped. Nothing special about them.

Company I still need to try:

  • Coyuchi - high reviews and they are the sheets sold at the high end mattress store near my house.

I searched this question and I am posting the top answer in one of the posts: $75 isn't much of a sheet budget to be honest. Especially if you are going for buy it for life status with the best comfort. It just wont happen. Some people say look at thread count but that doesn't give any indicator since manufactures started counting individual plies (the tiny fiber that makes a single thread) triple and quadrupling numbers. Some people say look at Egyptian cotton, this is just as big a scam as thread count. It doesn't actually mean anything. Long ago it used to since Egyptian cotton had a longer staple but today its just a marketing word that means very little. All in all you need to look at material/weave and price. Cotton is great if you want some crisper sheets, decently durable. 100% cotton is gonna wrinkle like crazy though. Silk is nice in that it is supremely smooth, but it traps heat and is really slippery, I personally don't like that feeling but you may(not in your current budget) Bamboo(rayon, viscose bamboo) is a synthetic that is really soft feeling and smooth. A very good in between to cotton and silk but its not durable. If you like really nice sheets but don't mind replacing them every 5 years go with these. (again, not in your current budget, dont buy the cheap ones, terrible) Linen is great if your going for buy it for life status, its robust and becomes softer with every wash. Only downside is, is that its not that soft and smooth but I find linen to be nice and cool. Its expensive, again not it your current budget but you can actually buy used for this since its bifl Microfiber also like bamboo in its softness but its even worse in the durability dept. You can buy cheap ones but you'll be replacing often. I also find they trap heat. Jersey cotton, its T-shirt fabric. IF your into that go to target and drop $15 on them. I dont recommend this because I am not a barbarian but some people like it. You'll be replacing these every year. Honestly that's pretty much it, i'm sorry to say but you can't get truly good sheets on a relatively low budget. Once you get around 130-260 your gonna find some good ones, I wouldn't pay more than that. After that its just name brand. Also Find sheets with warranty, or a trial period (good sheets usually come with these). Source: I have been in bedding manufacturing awhile and I own a bedding company u/supamil

high‑quality sheets come down to three things: fiber, weave, and budget. thread count isn’t the magic number it’s made out to be. anything much above 400 is usually marketing, with manufacturers counting plies to inflate the number. egyptian cotton used to mean long‑staple fibers that were smoother and stronger, but now it’s mostly a label slapped on average cotton. weave makes a big difference. percale is crisp and cool, great for a fresh feel. sateen is smoother, has more sheen, and runs warmer. both can be excellent when the base cotton is good. fiber types have their own personalities. 100% cotton is breathable and durable but will wrinkle. linen is pricey, starts out textured, and softens beautifully over time while lasting decades. bamboo/viscose feels silky but the fibers wear out faster. microfiber is inexpensive and soft but traps heat and breaks down quickly. for long‑lasting sheets, aim for long‑staple cotton like pima or supima in a percale or sateen weave, around 300–500 thread count. something like the threadmill 800tc sateen set uses quality cotton, solid stitching, and avoids blended fibers. budget around $120–$200 for a set that will hold up for years. cheaper sheets may feel nice at first but tend to pill, fade, or lose smoothness within a year or two. better ones actually improve with washing and can easily last a decade or more.

April 28, 2025 -

Hi everyone. I'm in college and will be subjected to sleeping in a little twin for the next 3-4 years, and I wanted to invest in some comfortable, quality, but affordable bedding.

I've never slept on anything other than cheap target essentials bedding. I've been meaning to invest in a nice duvet. Upon searching, I see that Linen is recommended but can be a little pricy. I hear that it is scratchy but becomes soft overtime. Does it become softer than cotton, what is the hype?

I found these pillowcases on Pinterest ( I know) that I really liked from LenOk linen. Does anyone have any experience buying from this brand? The other semi-affordable brand I found was Quince, but I've heard some concerns about the quality of the fitted sheet. Can anyone speak to this?

If you guys have any other affordable recommendations, let me know. It doesn't have to be linen but I'm curious to try linen because everyone on this sub seems to recommend. Thank you!

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: Help! Looking for High-End Luxury Sheets That Don’t Wrinkle and aren’t so Plain—Any Recommendations?
September 14, 2024 -

Hey everyone!

I’m a big fan of high-end luxury sheets like Frette, and I currently have their 292 thread count sateen bordered sheets (photo attached). While they feel amazing, they wrinkle so easily, and it’s frustrating that they only look luxurious after a lot of ironing (especially those curled-up edges on the flat sheet!).

I love how these sheets have a decorative border, so I’m hoping to find something similar in style—sheets with embroidery, borders, or some other design element that aren’t just plain. But I also need something that’s more wrinkle-resistant.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

1.	Wrinkle-resistant sheets
2.	Decorative details like the border in the photo, embroidery, or similar design elements
3.	High-end luxury quality, but under $1100

If anyone has any suggestions for sheets that fit this description, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Thanks in advance!

November 28, 2023 -

I’m ready to invest in sheets that make me feel like I’m sleeping in a 5 star hotel (king bed, budget up to $500 for a fitted sheet and regular sheet). We’re hot sleepers in a southern state so I know this probably vetoes some fabrics. I’m not looking for cooling sheets by any means- just something that doesn’t add to the 500 degree heat my husbands body radiates lol.

We currently have a linen duvet that I love, but I’d prefer sheets that don’t require special care and can be washed with normal detergent so linen sheets are likely not an option. I also hate the breaking in process that comes with linen until it softens up.

Any particular brands or thread counts I should be looking at? I know quite literally nothing about bedding!

r/BuyItForLife on Reddit: [Request] Need high quality sheets, $ isn't an object, I just want the best. What to buy? Where to shop?
September 19, 2019 -

Disclaimer: I don't even require that the sheets meet the standards of "buy it for life". They could honestly only last a year or two, as long as they are amazing. I just want them to be comfortable.

EDIT:

I am not sure if I am seeking out soft/warm as much as I am seeking out smooth/cool. I am thinking the JLO sheets may have been Egyptian cotton sateen? They were definitely 100% smooth with tight stitching and zero texture and they never got to the point of being worn enough for the worn fibers to “pill up”.

My story:

I need to buy new sheets. For the past 5 or so years we've had these 600 thread count Egyptian Cotton sateen "JLO" sheets that Kohl's used to carry, when we originally bought them, we were at Kohl's and they were buy one get one get two free, and they were $140 king size sheet sets, and we happened to need new sheets at the time and so we were able to unzip one of the bags to feel them, and they met our standards so we bought them on a whim.

They ended up being the perfect combination of soft and that satiny/cool to the touch material. We'd had Egyptian Cotton high thread count sheets before but these were the only ones with that smooth, cool to the touch feeling.

Fast forward 3 or so years and the dog managed to rip the third and final set of these sheets. I immediately went online to buy more of the same JLO sheets only to find that Kohl's had discontinued the line completely and they had been selling them exclusively. I am the type of person who finds something they love and just buys it over and over again until I am forced into change, and it wasn't that time yet because I was able to buy 2 brand new sets of king size JLO sheets on ebay for $75 each, and I bought they have held us over until about a month ago when my husband was fixing the corner of the bed because the fitted sheet had come loose when I heard a dramatic rip. The last set of JLO sheets were dead.

I've spent the last few weeks obsessively scouring the internet first, trying to find another new set of King Size JLO sheets on a resale site like ebay--no luck--and second, trying to research what brand/type of Egyptian Cotton sheets are the best and have that "cold to the touch" feeling and don't sleep warm/hot at all. There is an overwhelming amount of sponsored ad kind of information polluting the internet about this subject and I don't know what to trust because shopping for sheets isn't my specialty. I don't know how exactly to word the feel of these JLO sheets when searching google or reddit, this cool touch feeling they had, and I am at a loss.

On a side note: upon looking back at old reviews on the Kohl's website from 5+ years ago when they were selling them on their website, and newer Amazon third party reseller reviews of the same sheets, seeing a ton of 1-3 star reviews saying how much people loved these sheets when they bought them only to have them suddenly tear and rip early on--too early for such expensive sheets to be ripping. We always assumed they had ripped because our dog's nails were a bit long and he used to "burrow" like he was digging in the space between out legs and the mattress sometimes. But he is gone now, and our last set ripped so that all makes sense.

I would love to go to a store in person, and be able to feel samples of sheets before we buy them--money isn't an object, I just want to know where I can go where the sheets are out for one to feel/sample and not all in plastic packaging, if such a store exists. I would also like to know what brand/model sheets you have or have had that seem to meet my weirdly worded description of being super soft, but cool the touch.

Need high quality sheets, $ isn't an object, I just want the best. What to buy? Where to shop?

r/Bedding on Reddit: Help Finding the Softest Sheets Ever?
November 4, 2024 -

Okay, I don't fully understand sheets, but I've tried and I need help. I keep buying "soft" sheets, and then when I use them, they're just...sheets.

But! There were some sheets I bought in person before Bed, Bath, & Beyond closed their brick and mortar stores that were just luxurious. I don't think they were jersey sheets, but I guess they might have been cause that's the only type of sheet that comes close. I can't remember anything else about them except they were so soft that I used to just climb into bed randomly to enjoy how soft they were. I'm an insomniac and these made laying in bed unable to sleep a delight. There's a poem by Danusha Lameris called Feeding the Worms (link to another Reddit post with the poem) and in those sheets, I felt like a worm described in that poem except with touch instead of taste. Seriously they just made me so happy to be alive and able to feel that kind of softeness around me. They inspired peace deep in my soul.

Maybe I'm just being cheap and I need to spend more than $60 on sheets to get that kind of softness in a non-jersey sheet, but within that price range I've tried Cosy House, Ugg, polyester, tencel, and random sets with high reviews and praise, and every set is just not what I'm looking for. I'm only avoiding jersey because I am not so heat tolerant these days, but if that's really the only way I'll get that softness, I'll accept it. I just need to know for sure that's the case from you, fine redditor sheet specialists.

If that's not the case though, I would love to know what I should buy for a softness that makes a person forget the human condition for a little while. I'm willing to go up to $100, but higher than that and my husband will probably protest.

Thank you for any help in advance!!

I sold sheets for nearly a decade at a major department store. They gave us great training, and vendors frequently gave us products. Here's the deal for getting the best, softest sheets. They must be 100% cotton. That's the No. 1 most important thing. You'll never get heavenly soft sheets with polyester in them. You can't compromise on 100% cotton if you want the softest sheets. Full stop. Manufacturers swear that Egyptian and Pima cotton are the best. Maybe they are, but Egyptian cotton, I found, retains a lot of heat. Even though they're incredibly soft, I quit using mine because I was so hot under them that I always kicked them off. Pima cotton is fabulous, but I never found it made a big enough difference to be worth the upcharge. JMO. They really are super soft. Sateen finish is wonderful but not necessary for super soft sheets. I suspect you're mistaking sateen for jersey. Thread counts have gotten so high that imo they don't make as big a difference as they used to. As long as the thread count is 350 minimum and they're 100% cotton, you're going to have fabulous soft sheets. Don't use fabric softener on your sheets (or towels). It leaves a waxy coating on them that makes sheets less soft and towels less absorbent. Bleaching white sheets is fine. Anecdotally, I slept with someone (sorry if tmi) who had bamboo sheets, and they were so decadently soft that I had to get a set. I love them. They're super soft! But after about a year or two of use, they became discolored where my body had slept on them over time. Maybe from my sweat or body oils? So I'm sticking with cotton. Believe it or not, some of the best, softest, most awesome sheets I've found were at Costco - 100% cotton, high thread count, sateen, great quality. My personal favorite brand of sheets is Wamsutta. They're just soft, long-lasting, keep their color and shape, etc. I suspect the Costco sheets are Wamsutta sheets. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Just know that making bamboo sheets is not environmentally friendly. A lot of bad chemicals are used to turn raw bamboo into a fabric.

Hi, all! I’m new in this group, but have been a host for a while now and have always used premium bedding- Brooklinen, Tuft&Needle, etc… but am finding I’m having to replace them so often because of harsh cleaning before and after each guest.

I don’t want to compromise bedding quality, but $1,500 every couple of months is getting out of hand.

My question: what bedding brand have you found that is comfortable, somewhat affordable and can hold up to regular cleanings?

Thank you all in advance!
