Suggestions, please. I got my daughter a subscription to a weekly "news for kids" magazine that she reads cover to cover. Now she is asking me to get her a subscription to a "fun" magazine. Is there anything out there that has articles about Taylor Swift, reviews of the latest PG-13 movies, silly quizzes and middle school appropriate hair and makeup tips?
Two things that I'm looking to avoid are magazines that are overly focused on appearance and magazines that are political. I don't want anything that is telling my kid she needs to look sexy, diet, or otherwise obsess about her body or see her value as being tied to thinness.
I also don't want one-sided political messaging like Teen Vogue. We're a liberal Democrat family raising kids in an off-the-deep-end, far-left West Coast city. My kids attend a public school that is far more interested in passing on the staff's political beliefs than it is in academics. My kids need to be exposed to different viewpoints or at the very least neutral information so that they can form their own opinions. So I'm either looking for a no-politics magazine or a balanced viewpoints magazine that doesn't tell kids exactly what they're supposed to believe and support.
Does this unicorn magazine exist?
