Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knew how strong the magnet on the iPhone 12 Pro Max is. I am in the market for a magnetic car mount and would like to not have to tape a magnet to my iPhone (see this product as an example: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/iottie-itap-2-magnetic-air-vent-car-mount-for-cell-phones-silver-black/6319179.p?skuId=6319179). Would this work without having to tape a magnet to my iPhone? I am not interested in a magsafe car mount as I will already be charging my phone when it is connected to CarPlay.
Thanks

Doesn’t have to be MagSafe or have wireless charging. I thought my iPhone would stick to my magnetic car mount from Amazon but it falls off sometimes. Anyone use a cheap magnetic that works?
My absolute hands down favourite mount (after trying and returning maybe 5 different options from different brands) is the iOttie One Touch Mount. It’s not magnetic but it’s just as convenient for me.

It has a button on the back of the mount that your phone rests against, and when it hits the button the sides of the mount clamp shut and grab the device. You can easily take it off by squeezing the two tabs on the side when going to reach for your phone. It’s the perfect balance of security and convenience for me, and it’s available in a QI wireless Charger variant and just a normal mount. You can also get a suction cup mount, vent mount, or CD slot mount (which is the one I’m currently using)
It’s been in my car for 2 Canadian winters now and I’ve had absolutely no problems with it. Even when it’s -30 outside. Easily the best mount and bang for your buck out there.
I had to try a few until I found one that worked, partly because form factor was important to me and partly because not all magnet arrays worked with the 12. The one linked below is working beautifully even with a non-mag-safe case and no metal plates (the thin Spigen clear case is what I’m using). I was concerned that it would fall off going over/through the massive potholes (more like craters) and around tight curves given that it didn’t feel like the strongest magnetic pull, but I’ve been super impressed that it hasn’t fallen even once. Wireless charging was not something I was concerned with as I have to plug my phone in to get CarPlay, so a basic mount was all I needed. Also, it has bendable tabs on the mount part of your dash isn’t completely flat. Not an issue for me, but I’m sure super helpful in a lot of cars.
Scosche Magic Mount
Edit: fixed my broken link
Looking to get a MagSafe car mount but with the phone being so big and heavy I don’t want to waste time and get some that aren’t good enough for the job. Any recommendations?
