Best mattress under 1000 dollars that actually last? I'm done with fugazis/lemons
If you live in America, Costco and Sam’s club provide amazing value in mattresses. We went to a mattress store, decided we wanted to buy a hybrid mattress after trying out a variety of models. Then we asked them what makes a good mattress, and they basically answered that the number of coils. We found a king size mattress on Sam’s Club for like $500, and asked them if there was any reason to buy the $2k mattresses from their store. They said there was no reason, so we went with Sam’s Club, and have been very happy since. More on reddit.com

Brands that make durable, high-quality mattresses?
Big brands are made to sag in a few years. It means you buy a new mattress and keep the shareholders of big brands happy. I’ve read, and seen videos of, experiences w $6k beds of all brands… Beautyrest, Sealy, Simmons… sagging after a few years… all of them. Ahhhh capitalism! If you want something that you can depend on it’s best to go to a local store who makes their own mattresses, better still if they have a zip cover so you can easily swap out layers as the more tender layers start to wear. Or, just buy a cheaper bed w less layers and know that’ll also need to be replaced in a few years. Oooooooooor make your own! (I did 😬) Watch some Mattress Maker videos on YouTube and you’ll be decently-ish educated about mattresses. They have mattress autopsy videos too. Btw… I don’t work for them, I just watched ALL their videos (among countless others) when I built my own mattress and they have some really great info. More on reddit.com

Casper for the win, I got the first one on this list : https://www.redrecs.com/best-mattress (its analysis of all reddit posts just like this one, asking what's the best mattress, super helpful) and I dig it so far, I had back pain for a while but with this I sleep so good on this thing and much less back pain, it's also half the price of same quality mattresses. When’s the best time to buy a new mattress?
The best time to buy a mattress is typically during major holiday sales, when retailers offer deep discounts and bundle deals. Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Black Friday are some of the biggest mattress sale weekends of the year. Many companies also run promotions during New Year’s and back-to-school seasons, especially for mattresses in a box or dorm-friendly models. If you're not in a rush, waiting for these events can help you save significantly—especially on higher-end models or when shopping in-store. However, many online brands offer ongoing deals year-round, so it’s wort

What mattress types are most comfortable?
Whether or not you find a mattress comfortable depends on factors like your body shape and preferred sleeping position. For example, a back sleeper who weighs over 230 pounds will usually prefer a significantly firmer mattress than someone who weighs less than 130 pounds and sleeps on their side.Mattresses can also feel comfortable in the short term but uncomfortable after several hours or even days, making it difficult to choose the right mattress without sleeping on it. It’s helpful to choose a mattress with a sleep trial, as these allow you to double-check that your new bed is comfortable b

r/Frugal on Reddit: Best mattress under 1000 dollars that actually last? I'm done with fugazis/lemons
April 9, 2025 -

I did everything right. I researched, read reviews, even laid on this Sealy mattress in a showroom for 15 minutes while the salesperson awkwardly hovered. It felt amazing... until it didn't. After spending the last THREE YEARS on a mattress that cost me $850 and developed a body-shaped crater within 8 months, I'm super skeptical and literally trust no one.

The first 90 days were great, then it started freaking sinking in the middle. By the time I tried to use the warranty, they hit me with "normal wear and tear isn't covered" and "body impressions under ‘x’ inches aren't considered defects." EXCUSE ME?

Anyway. I'm now mattress shopping again, but THIS time, I want a simple, well-made mattress under $1000 that won't become a hammock within a year.

I'm looking at some online brands, but also considering going back to basics with something more traditional.

Has anyone found a good mattress under $1000 that's actually held up over time? What's your experience with hybrid vs all-foam designs? Any brands to absolutely avoid? (I’ve read that a lot of those trial periods often have ridiculous return processes and that most mattress reviews online are paid.)

Edit: WOW, didn't expect so many responses! I tried reading through all your suggestions, but they were too many… thanks so much everyone!

I ended up going with the Boring Hybrid Mattress (https://www.boring.co/products/hybrid-mattress) after a decision paralysis, since it checked all the boxes for me: under $1000, a 365 night trial period, good support, and plenty of positive reviews here on Reddit.

It might not be the most exciting pick, but it felt it was one of the safest bets. I’m super excited to finally try it out and see if it lives up to the hype (or at least doesn’t sag within 8 months)!

r/Mattress on Reddit: Brands that make durable, high-quality mattresses?
January 2, 2025 -

I’m wondering if anyone has insights into which BRANDS make durable, high-quality mattresses. I know what I’m looking for in terms of specs, features, and price, but I’m trying to make sure I’m getting something that’s well-constructed and won’t sag on me in a couple years.

I’ve gotten nothing but conflicting information so far. The mattresses I’ve liked in the stores are from a lot of the S-brands that I know use lower-quality materials, tend to sag, and don’t last as long. The bed-in-a-boxes from online retailers seem to have a good reputation online and in this sub, but I know they’re generally supposed to be less durable than the traditional kind and I know a lot of the manufacturers pay for good reviews, so I'm a little wary of them. I know types of materials are important as well and I've looked into that, but it's hard to find this information for a lot of mattresses.

I’m not super picky about feel as long as it’s reasonably firm and supportive and it doesn’t use a ton of memory foam, but I just want to know which brands, companies, and/or product lines are GOOD (and not bad) and will generally remain durable. Can anyone help?

I have a pranasleep mattress. They are latex mattresses and warrantied for 15-20 years depending on model. They have coil type and coiless. But latex is going to have a floating feel to it rather than memory foam which has that sink in feel. Latex is much more durable than memoryfoam its really only susceptible to direct sunlight drying out the foam but that would only be a problem if the foam was out in the open with no cover on it. They are very durable in my experience. Ive had mine 5 years and it still feels brand new. And i got my daughter one also. They have cooling covers built into them and range from $2000-$10000 in a queen.
