I'm newly graduated and started working full time making decent money. Looking into elevating my wardrobe a bit while not spending outrageous amounts of money on clothes (I'm not spending 500 dollars on polyester pants). Right now my go-to places are mainly thrifting, Uniqlo, Abrecrombie, Hollister, and Winners.
I'm a software engineer so don't need anything work specific. I'd describe my style as a mix of "old money" and "street-wear lite" (I don't like flashy logos but like the styling). I also prefer natural materials when possible (100% cotton, wool, and leather etc)
Places I'm eyeing at the moment are places like KOTN, COS, and Stussy. Any other stores that fit this criteria? Bonus points if there's a retail location!
Hey folks! Older dude looking for quality men’s clothing stores. Kinda bored with what’s out there . I like design and prefer something unique but comfortable. I don’t do Harry Rosen and am not looking for casual upscale or big box stores bc I already know them. I mix urban, thrift, upscale, low-key design, functional and casual all into one messy outfit. Think urban NYC (I can hear the cringe 😹). Help!! And thanks
Does anybody have good reccomentations for good clothing stores aside from Walmart and H&M (looking for male clothing)? I recently realized all my clothing are torn and worn out and was thinking it would be nice to get some new things to make myself look nice but I dont know where to look. I usually dont buy cloths and so I'm lost.
Thanks in advance.
Hey everyone, Just moved to Toronto from the States. Went to the bars last weekend and you guys dress a lot nicer to go to bars and clubs than people in Ohio do haha. So I was wondering what are some good stores to get "going out" clothes. Looking for a place that is generally affordable, down town (I live near the Roger's Center), and has nice stuff like good jeans, button down shirts that are short enough to leave un-tucked, etc. that aren't ridiculously priced. I'm 24, 6 foot tall and muscular so I sometimes have problems finding clothes that fit well. I don't really know anyone here yet so any advice at all is greatly appreciated. Cheers!
Funnily enough, there was a guide for shopping for clothing in Canada posted on /r/MFA just yesterday (which is kinda an update to the previous version).
It really comes down to what style you're looking for though.
Banana Republic and J. Crew have good button down/up shirts, but you have to wait for the sales to get them at a decent price (they have something like 40% off pretty much every week).
Levis have good jeans for a decent price here (albeit they aren't quite on the level of something like Naked and Famous).
Shoes really depend on the look you're going for. I personally like Boat Shoes for summer, Desert Boots for fall, and "Work Boots" for winter, but there are a ton of other options out there.
H&M can be great for find stuff, but keep in mind that it is a fast fashion brand and doesn't have the greatest durability.
Queen Street West has a ton of smaller stores if you're looking for something specific
As for the fit issues, I highly recommend checking out this guide. It's getting a bit long in the tooth, but it still has fantastic advice for people with athletic builds.
You should check out Frank and Oak, a bit pricey but really nice stuff.

My boyfriend is graduating and he told me he needs new shoes. I decided I'd put away $400-$500 as his graduation gift and take him on a clothing shopping spree. I'm just wondering where would be best. Eaton center is the obvious answer but is there somewhere better for menswear?
for reference, he's early twenties and likes fashion. i'd be open to drive to more than one place
Hi there!
My partner has been wanting to up his fashion game. He is really interested in trying out some different styles but finds that in a lot of the stores the mens selections are pretty bland and boring so he often ends up just settling.
He is willing to pay a little bit more for some good quality items and would love some suggestions!
Thanks :)
I'm 29 and recently got a promotion at work. The promotion puts me in a new job that needs me to upgrade my clothing since it's client-facing and sales-related. I only shopped dress shirts in Uniqlo ever since. I think I need to buy some suits/blazers too. Anywhere you guys can suggest? Where do you guys also buy clothes for dates and casual events?
Hudsons Bay usually has a week long sale called Bay Days twice a year. I believe it usually happens once in mid-April and once in mid-October. The exact dates vary from year to year. Keep an eye on their site.
During this time, they have good sale on office wear. Its a good option to shop different brands in one place. You get to pick the price range that works best for you.
One suggestion I would give is, spend a little extra on two good pairs of shoes - black and brown. When you take good care, a good pair can last long. Better to pay $200 once and use it for four years instead of paying $100 twice every 1.5 years. Cole Haans give the best bang for your buck.
SuitSupply has quality menswear. Excellent materials and fabrics. It is good value for the quality of cloth you are getting. They have a location in Yorkville.
Brooks Brothers is also good for classic, American prep inspired clothing. They have sales twice a year (June & Jan) and the OCBD, blazers and trousers will be discounted up to 40%.
Harry Rosen and Holt Renfrew are also well-known menswear shops in the city. I have never purchased menswear from them.
You will most likely need to bring any off-the-rack clothing to a tailor to customize the fit. This is the key to looking great. Magic Tailor does excellent work.
Try joining /malefashionadvice and also doing some reading on building a basic menswear wardrobe with interchangeable pieces, and different pieces adapted to the seasons. Good luck.
Hey everyone! I recently moved to Toronto, and I’m really into shopping and exploring unique clothing stores. I’ve already checked out a couple of spots like Lost & Found and Haven shop. Loved Lost & Found—it was definitely my favorite so far! Haven shop also had some amazing pieces, but I’d have to think twice about some of the prices.
Do you have any other recommendations for curated or unique clothing shops in Toronto? I’d love to find a few more cool places to explore. Thanks in advance!
What are your favorite business casual clothing stores in Toronto (prefer near Eatons center) for business casual attire (mens)? Preferably some dark colored button downs as I don't want my sweat stains to be visible in the office :)
I also don't mind ordering online. Let me know your thoughts below!
What are some brands/stores that I should check out if I want to buy heavyweight tees, caps etc? I don't want the plain Uniqlo/HM types, preferably something creative/print heavy.
Hey folks! I'm newly single after 8 years and looking to get out and experience some stuff. I'm thinking of going to the bars downtown while I'm in town next week, but don't have any real clothes that would be appropriate for bars / clubs. Can anybody recommend a store something downtown where I could buy some nicer button up collared shirts, some nice pants, etc?
5-6-9 Daaaanforth Avenue, in the heart of Greektown. Ask for Sol.
For good value/quality I'd check out the new Frank & Oak flagship store at 735 Queen W. At around the $50 their shirting is quite decent in fit and construction. If you're looking to pay more there is always Harry Rosen, Holt's, Sydney's etc.
As a relatively basic dude in his mid-30s, I am getting sick of getting all my clothes at Uniqlo/Simons/H&M. Any suggestions of other places to shop (preferably in the downtown core)?
I've sort of gotten older and haven't really updated my wardrobe in the past twenty years, but I'm getting into work where it has traditionally been customary to dress moderately well (suit and tie are not necessary).
I use to shop a lot at Mexx back in the 90s and early 2000s. I always liked the clothing they sold. What are some good men's clothing stores in Ontario to check out these days?
Looking to get my boyfriend (early 30s) some new office wear. He looks so hot (literally) in the usual dress shirt and pants. Are there no summer alternatives for business wear for men?
I'd consider converting to being Scottish so he can wear a kilt formally...
Going to go off the beaten path here; if he has to wear suit and tie, it sounds like he's in finance (because you don't even have to wear suit and tie in law anymore).
Does he have his own office? Back when lawyers were still required suit and tie, I'd leave all my suits in my office and just bike to the office in T-Shirt and jeans and change in my office with my door closed. This would be the easiest, and he wouldn't have to dry clean so often as well since he wouldn't be sweating through everything.
I’m staying downtown and looking for find a couple of the best men’s clothing stores. I’m seeking both business casual and casual clothing. Bonus if the store has men’s footwear.
Where should I go?
I’m open to both budget-friendly and slightly premium options.
Hello everyone!
A friend and I are in Toronto for the weekend coming up. He is real keen to go on a bit of a shopping spree and get some nice clothes. Specifically a bit flashy/dandy type clothes. Basically his favourite piece of clothing is a silk brocade vest I found him at Le Chateau a while back, if that gives you an idea. Something that's fun and a bit flashy while still being acceptable to wear day to day. Think this or this.
For price point we're good with cheaper as long as it's well made, or paying for quality, but not really interested in paying for brand names or really high end stuff. Not interested in anything costume-y, cheaply made, or satin polyester, but good quality pieces that last.
We are already planning to go to the Kensington Market, which I adore and know pretty well, and looking at going down Queen Street West that seems to have a lot of shops. Is there anywhere else we should go? Any point in going to the Eaton Centre, or is it just more of the same stuff you find in malls everywhere?
Also, if anyone has recommendations for outdoor markets that are more "farmers and local craftspeople in booths" rather than stores, I'd love that info too! Holidays are coming up, and it'd be nice to get stuff we can't get at the local markets. Walkable to Kensington Market area (30min?) would be nice but I'm flexible.
I'd really like some recommendations for shops that sell men's clothing with good design but not too overpriced.
I'm particularly interested in where Asian men here shop, as a lot of the stores that I know sell clothes with larger sizes and my husband is tall and skinny and it's been difficult to find sizes that fit him. Uniqlo has been great but I'd really like more options for better designs!
Thanks y'all!!
Outside of Uniqlo, there is Zara, Oak + Fort, and Shien. It's fast fashion, so you will find something that's not overpriced.
About 60% of my stuff is from winners because I have no need to pay higher fashion prices for crap that's not in style next week anyway. Then probably 20% the Bay for some nicer pieces, and 20% a mix of a wide variety of other stores when I've found something reasonable at a reasonable price.
