If you're just capturing audio, I'd reccomend you get a portable recorder like the Podtrak P4 and a couple handheld dynamic mics and forget the wireless aspect of it. Good handheld microphones, "cheap," and "wireless" don't belong in the same sentence together. For an indeal but usable solution, I have a pair of Neewer CM31s that are good for what they do within their limitations. They will record a bunch of background sounds, and I would not use the noise canceling on them whatsoever, but they have really good tone capture and I'm pretty impressed at the feature set for the pricepoint.

Looking at a lot of these posts, I am much less knowledge that most people asking questions here.
What I’m looking for the the smallest possible mic with the best sound. I actually will mainly be used it at a desk, rather than on-location, but I assume you guys would know best about compact options given your need for portability.
I currently have the AT2020USB+, but it’s underwhelming. I hardly even experience the cardioid nature of the mic as it seems to pick up sounds from everywhere.
I liked it because it was much lighter and smaller than some bulky alternatives, but I wonder if there’s something even smaller, perhaps a lavalier, that could compare in quality.
