r/pcmasterrace on Reddit: Simple, compact "gaming" keyboard?
January 26, 2025 -

Hi, I've been slowly but surely piecing together my desktop setup and am currently using a cheap keyboard from goodwill until I can find a better one. Due to my small desk, I can't have a keyboard any wider than 15 inches. I don't need RGB or anything, just good response times and all the important keys (This one doesn't even have Fn or Caps lock) are all I need. Any recommendations?

I’ve recently bought my first gaming laptop as I regularly travel between two places. However, I’ve always gamed on a desktop, so I’m really used to the desktop keyboard. I notice my performance is also worse because of the laptop keyboard. That’s why I want to buy a (mini) keyboard to connect to my laptop.

One problem is that I need an Azerty keyboard (so no US lay-out). This makes my choice a lot smaller. Anyone had a recommandation?

June 1, 2025 -

Hi there. I’d like to get a keyboard just for gaming. So I’d only need the WASD keys, the spacebar, and maybe a few keys around them. I want it to be as small as possible—just something I can stick somewhere. I was thinking about a foldable keyboard, but those are long, right? Isn’t there a foldable one you can use while only half-unfolded? Or maybe something else?

Tl;dr just take a minute or two to think what you actually need and buy the one that has it and is within price range. You can't actually go wrong with such a basic tool like keyboard. Literally any keyboard will do. Personally I'm currently playing on the cheapest dell keyboard. While it's ok for me, w + shift + space combo doesn't work so it would not be ok for games where you have to sprint jump a lot (I rarely play such games). That's the only reason to think about replacing it for me. It's fairly silent, has minimalistic but elegant aesthetic (unlike most gaming keyboards) it's VERY easy to clean and the keys go down when pressed and go up when released. What else should a keyboard do? When I decide it's time, I'm going to buy the next cheapest keyboard that does the W + shift + space combo and has the same features. Just to be clear, I'm completely okay with spending outrageous amounts of money on hardware and software. It just has to be practical. I wouldn't buy a gaming chair because they are garbage. Good office chairs offer better suport and ergonomy. I wouldn't buy a smart tv to use with gaming console, because consoles offer the same functionalities. Vital components like GPU, CPU, PSU etc are valid expenses (even if their prices are kinda bloated) because they are actually necessary and they have actual impact on your experience. Monitor has massive impact on your experience too. I just think that periferal "gaming" devices are just smart marketing of cheap products with extreme margin. For example - I wanted a new mouse. At the store I noticed that the more dpi the mouse had the more expensive it became, and the more jagged bits and RGB lights it had. You could find up to 16k dpi mouse with like 6 dpi settings. I made a bit of my own searching and I found an article about dpi settings professional players use for games like league of legends, overwatch or CS:GO, and turns out they actually prefer lower dpi. Like 2400 or 1600. I guess that's a precision thing. Ofc I'm not a professional player and I don't need that extreme precision, so I bought a mouse that felt sturdy and comfortable and was within my price range.

I need something that will work reliably for a long time (where the keys won't get stuck or unresponsive), relatively short length, as it has to fit on my lap, and most importantly, wireless

If the keys are easy to see in the dark, that'd be a plus, but I don't actually care about that too much, and I don't mind saving up a little bit if the best option gets a little pricey

I have a budget of around £130 and would really like something with Cherry MX Blues. I considered the K70 however, I wouldn't use the extra number pad and think compact keyboards look a lot better.

I'll be using this for casual gaming and school work if that makes any difference.

Cheers.

r/keyboards on Reddit: Gaming Keyboard Recommendations? (low-profile)
March 27, 2025 -

Hello! I’ve been looking for a gaming keyboard for my desk. Any recommendations, suggestions, or opinions are welcome. Thank you very much! :)

📌Minimal Requirements

  • Budget: Around $200 USD (give or take)

  • Full RGB support

  • White keyboard (for my desk color palette)

  • At least 65%, but TKL or 100% will be my best option

  • Linear or tactile switch + the quieter the better (I have other people living in the house)

  • USB-C port for charging/connecting

  • Low profile! (duh)

✨Extra Preference

  • Hot swappable switches/keys are a plus

  • Weight doesn’t matter, it will be sitting on my desk 24/7

  • Shine-through keycaps are a plus

  • Primarily used for gaming, but great typing experience is a HUGE plus

  • Having 1000Hz polling rate or more is a plus

  • Wired/wireless doesn’t matter, but wireless is more preferred

  • Mechanical keys preferred

🤔 My Current Options

  • Logitech G915 X Lightspeed TKL

  • ASUS Falchion RX Low Profile

  • Logitech G515 Lightspeed TKL

💻 (Extra Info) My Experience With Keebs

  • Quite new to mechanical keyboards / custom keyboards

  • Frequent laptop/apple keys user, switching to low profile keys after 9 months of high profile use (don’t like arm/wrist rests as well)

  • Relatively light typist, does a lot of typing/translation work

  • Causal gamer, plays various games from FPS to RPGs

  • Familiar with linear switches (silent ones too), don’t prefer clicky noise

  • Interested in using tactile switch (never used one before)

  • Small hands, short arms

If there are also cheap alternatives that can be used with white shine-through keycaps, I’m also open for those options. I also don’t mind all the little bells and whistles (knobs, buttons etc.) as long as it fits all the preferences that are listed above.

Thanks again for your time and I look forward to hear your opinions about it! :)

I’ve been looking for a new keyboard as I’ve had mine for about 4 years now and it starting to look rough, I want to leave 100% in the past and do a smaller keyboard. I also really want it to sound creamy or thocky lol, I’ve seen reviews on keyboards like the Aula 75 and I’ve gotten really interested, I also want to have some cool colors. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, preferably under $100 :)
