Ive been doing a ton of research on 65 inch TVs and have narrowed my list down to 3. I will be purchasing my TV during Labor Day weekend so hopefully there are better deals. I’m considering:
TCL QM7K at $800 TCL QM8 at $900 Hisense U8 at $900
Out of these 3, which one would you recommend? Is there a TV i didn’t list that you would pick over these? I’m not too familiar with the Hisense models so let me know if there is a newer/better model under 1k. Thank you all.
EDIT: This TV will mainly be used for streaming sports. I would say 60% of the time sports, 20% gaming, 10% movies, 10% youtube. Idk if that changes anything
Hey folks,
I'm looking for some guidance on picking out a new 65" TV and could really use the community’s input.
Room Conditions:
It’ll be placed in a mostly dark room, but there is some occasional natural light during the day.
Glare isn’t a huge issue, but I’d still like something that holds up reasonably well in mixed lighting.
Main Use Cases:
Watching 1080p and 4K content via Jellyfin/Plex
Playing on PS2, PS3, and PS4
I don’t plan to do a ton of high-frame-rate gaming (PS5 or PC gaming isn’t a factor right now)
I do care about upscaling quality, especially for PS2-era content
Budget & Where I'm Buying:
I’d like something with great bang for the buck — good picture quality, reliability, and value
I’m mainly looking at Amazon or Best Buy
Amazon is preferred since I can take advantage of 0% APR financing through my Amazon store card, especially with Prime Day coming up
TVs I’m Considering:
I've been strongly looking at the Hisense U8N and U7N
The U8N seems to have excellent brightness and contrast (great for HDR content and dark room performance)
U7N is cheaper and still gets good reviews as a mid-range Mini-LED option
I’ve read great things on Rtings, but I’m seeing some Reddit and YouTube comments about concerns with long-term reliability and panel failures
I do like that both models come with a 2-year manufacturer warranty, which offers some peace of mind
What I’m Hoping to Learn:
Is the U8N worth the price premium over the U7N for my use case?
Are the panel reliability concerns legit, or overblown?
Are there other TVs around the $800–$1300 range I should be looking at that are better for mixed content and retro upscaling?
Should I consider waiting until Prime Day for a better deal?
TL;DR:
Looking for a 65" Mini-LED or similar TV for Jellyfin/Plex and PS2/PS3/PS4, preferably on Amazon for 0% APR. Leaning toward Hisense U8N or U7N. Want solid performance without breaking the bank. Thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any input — I’ve been researching for weeks and feel like I’m stuck in analysis paralysis.
UPDATE* Went with the Sony Bravia 8 OLED at Amazon. Went to Best buy and watched the 7 and 8 side by side. The LG and Samsung reps told me to go with Sony when I mentioned watching anime and using a PS4
