Hi! I'm 24 years old and live in Los Angeles. I remember when I was young for some reason I LOVED getting magazines and reading through them. Then, I went through a phase in high school where I recycled most of them by making art out of them and then in college I felt like I didn't have time to read extra things and wanted to be minimal and not own many things and thinking about the impact on the planet etc.. Plus I got my first laptop right before college and any news information felt accessible through the internet.
I haven't really thought about magazines until I was at the grocery store and saw RBG on the cover of Time and that made me think about magazines. Kind of a random topic that spurred in my head.
I am VERY guilty of checking my social media first thing I wake up and last thing before bed. I've tried reading books, stretching, and yoga before bed but I admit to breaking those habits or peaking on my phone afterwards. I've been thinking about maybe magazines as an alternative. Anyone have some off-screen thing they do before bed?
Do any of y'all have printed magazine subscriptions? If so, what are you subscribed to and what makes you want to keep your subscription? And maybe what is your age or any context you feel like giving.
This is piggy backing on the Sports Illustrated question from earlier today, but I also thought about it when I pulled my National Geographic out of the mailbox a few days ago.
I've gotten NatGeo since I was a kid, it's still a great monthly read. 4-5 long form articles every month on everything from the latest in Egyptian anthropology discoveries to climate change to the history of glass. Then a potpurri of still great photography and shorter topics. It's the best.
So, do you subscribe to any print magazines? Which? Why? Isn't getting mail sorta fun?
