Your sens is on the higher side, it is 70.4 edpi (1600 times 0.044) Most pros seem to use between 40 and 80 edpi, so if it does feel too fast for you still, you could try lowering it to like 3.4% which would be 54.4 edpi. Mouse control is very important and critical in hitting shots. I use 3.1% and 1600 dpi, personally. Depending on your mouse pad size, you could just have your sens as whatever it takes for you to do a 360 from one end of the pad to the other, as long as you don't have some oversized desk pad, that works, if so, could do from one end of the keyboard to the edge of your desk for that. That brings me to my sens as stated above. Answer from ihadtosoit on reddit.com

New to PC, Keyboard & Mouse Settings/Tips?
1600 DPI (lower latency than 800DPI) and 1000Hz (higher than 1000Hz causes stutters in FN) in the mouse itself settings. Then mouse settings in FN choose something between 3% and 4% that feels good for you. Veno on 3%, Peterbot uses 3.2%, Eomzo 3.3, Muz 3.5%, Malibuca 4% (all when converted to 1600DPI). Then put ADS/scope on 40-50%, whatever feels best. I use 1600DPI 3.4% and 40% ADS, 1000Hz polling. Then keyboard settings: if you have adjustable actuation, put build+movement+edit keys on 0.1mm-0.4mm (whatever feels best, I use 0.4mm) and leave the rest of the keys on 1mm (I put WinKey+emotekey+ESC on 4mm so I don't hit them accidentally). Then binds (optimal is a myth, but many decent combos exist) : I prefer not to change too much beyond default as this can cause some bugs and loss of hidden binds down the line. Edit on E or F. Pickaxe on a different finger to shotgun to swap quickly. Divide build binds across hands and fingers, so Wall+stairs on mouse 4+5 (side mouse buttons, this is both ideal and default). Then put floor on Q and leave cone on V (press with thumb, both ideal and default). Don't forget to put scroll-up for pick-up/interact and scroll down as a second edit and second reset bind to be able to scroll-reset. Again, there's so many possible good binds to put pickaxe, AR and shotgun on. Its all down to whats comfortable but you want to be able to move left while pulling shotgun out. Many pros use 3, E or C, but a thumb bind would be good too. Good luck. Don't get caught up in changing your build binds a bunch. The ones I recommended or very similar are used by Veno, Eomzo and Cold for example. They will not limit your skill. More on reddit.com

Switching to keyboard and mouse, any tips?
Yeah, get a bigger desk and mousepad. Turn off mouse acceleration, find the sensitivity you're comfortable with and don't copy someone else's settings. Practice builds in creative and find keybinds you're comfortable with More on reddit.com

People also ask

Is a keyboard and mouse better than the controller Fortnite?

The answer to this question depends on your personal preference. Some gamers prefer controllers but if you will ask pro players, the majority of them recommend the combination of key and mouse. They provide better aim precision and freedom of movement so yeah, go with them to be a master of Fortnite.

I have been playing on keyboard and mouse for a few weeks now and I know that there is no "one fits all" when it comes to any game, but I have been doing some research and it seems like I need to slow down mouse sensitivity? I seem to do better with it being a lot faster but they say don't put it high at all and it's a "common mistake". I am still really bad at building and editing quickly, though.

I have a relatively large mousepad with a Razer Basilisk V3 mouse and a Razer Huntsman TE keyboard. Here are my questions:

  1. Should I slow down my mouse sensitivity to 4.4% on both X and Y at 1600 DPI? Or something else?

  2. For my keyboard, what key binds should do well for building? I am open to anything as I haven't really got hooked to any bind setting yet.

  3. I do have two side mouse buttons. What should those be used for in terms of building (what will I need most often for Ranked Battle Royale/Cash Cup Tournaments when I get good enough)?

Thanks!

December 13, 2024 - To quickly reset an edit to protect yourself from incoming fire, you should bind both the ‘Reset Building Edit‘ and the secondary ‘Building Edit‘ to Mouse Wheel Up. Simple Edit is the latest editing option in Fortnite to make things easier for players who aren’t that good at building or editing in Battle Royale.

July 5, 2025 -

I finally got my gaming PC setup completed recently and been getting into gaming on it, the last time I ever played games on K&M was back when TF2 was originally made compatible for Mac (so 2013 or 2015-ish) and it feels good to experience those games again. Mainly been a Mac user for years and used to the ecosystem due to my voice over work. Gaming wise I've mainly been a console player my life.

I got into Fortnite around the start of Ch5S1 and played on PS5, so adjusting to K&M has been a bit challenging for me. I've been getting used to games like TF2 and L4D2 and adjusting well but Fortnite for some reason has been hard to adjust to, I know I gotta adjust mouse sensitivity and tinker with other options, are there some recommended key bindings I should look into? Or tips to give for someone new to the ecosystem? My friends wanna invite me to their gaming league team for Fortnite tournaments and I wanna master the feel of K&M to keep up with them. I'm primarily a ZB player too and haven't learn to build yet honestly but have been meaning to finally learn.
