r/productivity on Reddit: Absolute Best Noise-Canceling Headphones for Office Noise?
March 3, 2025 -

Hello everyone,

I know this question has been asked multiple times, but I’m looking for the absolute best noise-canceling headphones—no concern for price or value, just the absolute best in noise cancellation, period.

My company is requiring us to return to the office, and the environment is extremely noisy, with people talking all the time. I have a hard time concentrating and get easily distracted, so the only thing I care about in headphones is noise cancellation—especially something that can completely eliminate people’s voices. I don’t care about sound quality or any other features.

Please help me with recommendations!

A good pair of noise-canceling headphones can help you block out the world around you....great for when you're commuting, traveling or just in needof an escape. But... with so many models/brands available on the market touting noise cancellation, how do you know which one is truly best quality???

Price is one, yes, this is almost always a central factor in any purchase. So best to align your budget with these factors to ensure you can get a headset that can fulfill your work needs.

Best Noise-Cancelling Headphones in 2025

  • Sony WH-1000XM5

  • Apple AirPods Max

  • Bose QuietComfort 45

  • Beats Studio Pro

  • Anker Soundcore Space Q45

  • Sennheiser Accentum Plus

How I Chose These Headphones with the Noise Cancellation features

  • ease of movement

Working from home has its own disadvantages. You can easily be distracted since it lacks the usual corporate setting that can amp up your productivity. That’s why it’s best to set up a workstation that can facilitate productivity and movement.

Thus I find wireless headphones more capable of achieving Since there are no wires or cables, you can easily move without the hassle of tripping over. Though I also have a handful of options that can also be used wired, should the need arise?

  • design and ergonomics

I decided to blend aesthetics with function. Especially if you’re going to go a bit over your budget, might as I fulfill your requirements while keeping your eyes happy.

So you can find eye candy headphones here. I considered how easy these are to use. The controls must be set to an optimal position, at least 80 percent of the time. This is to ensure a better workflow.

  • ANC capacity

The capability of a headphone to reduce or remove annoying outside noise is one. But i'm careful to choose units that can have added value when it comes to this department.

One, i have options that offer different ANC modes. This allows you to fine-tune the settings to perfection, allowing you to mimic a corporate setting easily.

Two, I included headphones that can block wind noise, which is essential if you’re going to take calls outside or work in an open area where gusts of wind may blow anytime. And three, I have headphones that offer natural sounds. This can help you have a better disposition when taking calls, listening in to Zoom meetings, and the like.

Sound quality is a priority. How else can you work properly if the calls from the other line come off blurred and blotchy? Sounds are distinctively clear and concise. Some headphones may even allow you to tweak the EQ levels to your hearing.

  • comfort

While comfort levels may be subjective, no one can argue that this is a big metric for success. I made sure to pick headphones that are nice and comfy on the ears and head, say for 3 to 5 hours at least, these should not cause any type of pain both in the ears and head.

Hope this helped.

Having a noise-cancelling headset is always good since it allows you to block the outside noise while using it. You will be able to pay attention better while on a call or listening to something if you have this feature on your headset. Thus, if you expect to make important calls often, for example if you want to work from home, this is a feature that you may need.

These days, it is getting more common for people to work from home because employers are offering more accommodating rules to their employees. People will have options on where they want to work with this working model. This helps to improve their mood at work, which is meant to boost their productivity. While there is a chance for miscommunication during the work process, this can be avoided by holding online meetings, which have been shown to be successful. Here is where you need the working setup to ensure that you can continue to do your tasks properly without lacking of equipment to support them. For this specific reason, as meetings are a given in any form of business, a headset is required. Still, you need have a reliable headset for when you need it, so it is a good idea to get one that offers all features you need. Comfort, audio quality, and microphone should be your top concerns for making a choice. Of course, there will be other factors to think about, but with all of those three factors, you might be able to meet all of your needs for this particular reason.
Audio is an indicator of how well the headset produces sound. Clear and interference-free sound is produced by only high-quality headsets. It is always a good idea to read reviews from other customers before making a choice for the headset you want because you are able to see their experiences with that particular model. You can then summarize their feedback and decide whether or not to buy it. This doesn’t mean that you should take their opinions on the quality of the device blindly, but it will help you to set your expectations of that specific headset. Also, you will have a better idea of the good and bad sides of the headset if the model you choose has been reviewed by a reliable tech reviewer on Youtube.

If it is uncomfortable to wear, why are you buying it? This is probably the reason why, before selecting a headset, you should think about comfort. Considering that you generally only have to use a headset when you receive or make a call, it makes sense that you wouldn’t wear it all the time during work time. Choosing for the model that makes you feel comfortable when you are wearing it is still a wise choice, even if you don’t wear it often. What makes the headset comfortable to wear can be seen from the material of the ear cushions, the headband’s extension, and other components. Therefore, always consider this factor to see which one would be a better fit for you before making your decision.

If you use the headset for a meeting, a microphone is required for this purpose. Not every headset has a good microphone, some don’t even have the microphone that is suitable for a meeting, which leaves background noise unfiltered and unclear. Noise cancellation is one feature of a working-from-home headset that is specifically helpful. By having this feature, you may make the background noise on a call or meeting less distracting so the other person can focus on your voice. Always choose the features you really need if you want to get a budget-friendly headset because the other features included might not be as important for you.

Now it is your turn to find which headset covers the three aspects above to give you a decent experience in working from home. There will be a huge selection of headsets you can find out there, so it might be hard for you to find one that suits you the best. In this article, you will find the three headsets that are highly recommended to check. This doesn’t mean that there is no other choice out there, but simply just helping you to filter the options that might fit to your purposes.

I've been stuck using crummy gen 1 airpods for too long and finally saved up some cheddar for a solid pair of over-the-ear noise cancelling headphones. Prime is having massive sales so now's a great time to buy--my budget is $200.

I work a hybrid office job so noise canceling and comfort are essential, I also have a big noggin.

I run regularly and do bodyweight + dumbbell exercises at home regularly-ish and while I know earbuds are better for these, I am really deadset on getting actual headphones, so I want a pair that will stay on while I exercise and can deal with sweat in terms of not being worn, let alone damaged.

I'm kinda just stuck between the 2 classics--Sony WH-1000XM4 and Bose QuietComfort. I'm leaning towards the Bose because from what I read, while they're more expensive and the noise cancelling and sound quality are marginally worse, they have physical buttons, the app is easier to use, and they are larger/more comfortable. Totally open to other recs, especially if they're cheaper; I'm far from well-off right now but I need to treat myself in the long-run lol. Thanks!

December 16, 2024 -

Hey everyone,

My company just moved into a shared office space (think WeWork style), and there will be four of us in the same room. I'm looking for headphones or earbuds with really effective active noise cancellation.

I need something that will let me take calls directly from the office without my conversation partner being distracted by background noise or other people talking nearby. So, I’m looking for a model that:

  • Cancels out background noise effectively for me,

  • Filters out noise for the person on the other end of the call (super important).

If you’ve got recommendations or experience with headphones that are great for handling calls in a noisy environment, I’d really appreciate your help! 🙏

Thanks in advance! 😊

Hello folks,

I'm certain I can't be the only one going through this so I ask, What sort of headphones would you recommend to completely (or as much as possible) noise cancel everyone around you ? My work area is very chatty, I got a guy in front of me running daily conference calls multiple times a day, a few steps next to me I got the desktop team constantly complaining loudly about end-users and the type of tickets they get, etc, etc.

Hello everyone!
I've been working from home for more than 5 years, and soon I'll be transitioning to spending a significant amount of time working from coffee shops. As a remote Customer Support professional, I have over 100 calls per day with prospects. I'm in search of high-quality headphones that can effectively block out background noise. It's crucial that when I'm on a call, the prospect hears only my voice and not the ambient noise from the coffee shop, such as music and chatter.

Currently considering options like the Adapt 20, Jabra Evolve2 65 Flex, and Sennheiser Momentum 4, but I'm open to more recommendations. Thanks
