Apple is the best because you will get a new battery, 1 year warranty, ability to buy apple care+ and if you ever have to remove activation lock. All other places you don't get any of that plus when you receive it there's a chance it may already be in activation lock. Answer from supermanofky on reddit.com

Does anyone know a non-sleazy store that sells refurbished iPhones?

I need an iPhone 13 or 14, the Pro or Pro Max version. Specifically one of those four models. It's for a work project so I need a store that can provide an invoice.

Thanks!

Best place to buy a refurbished iPhone 14 in the US?
January 14, 2025 - So if you want a iPhone 14 or 13 in any variety, you are out of luck. ... After taxes, a phone that’s already listed as $529 is going to be significantly more than around $500. ... Yes, you want Apple refurbished store or Amazon renewed premium option- and make sure it’s shipped and sold ...

I've always bought refurbished units from Apple, no complaints.

Now seeking advice about getting a refurbished iPhone from one of the big online tech resellers (not Amazon). They offer the same refurb models as Apple for a couple hundred bucks less.

Does Apple charge more solely because of the name-brand "experience" or is there a genuine benefit to buying from them (e.g., warranty) vs another vendor?

With her own money, my teen daughter wants to buy a refurbished iPhone -- but I've never purchased a refurbished phone.

  1. Is there a store you would recommend? (Evergreen Traders?) Is Marketplace reasonable? (I feel buying without knowing the phone history is a risk.)

  2. Also, what would we need to inquire about beyond battery health before buying?

EDIT: Her phone plan is through Public.

(This isn't a proposal for an Apple-Android debate, btw. I prefer Android and gave my daughter a very old Galaxy as a first phone. Turns out a high majority of teens have iPhones and therefore communicate through iMessage. With an Android, my daughter isn't receiving group text messages and has been missing invites. We're just adapting to the reality and, unfortunately, switching to an iPhone seems to be a social requirement. It's a tough topic for an adult to reflect on.)

I have a 5s and am looking to upgrade to a 6s -- and preferably a 32GB, but I'll take a 64 if I have to, anything is better than the 16 I have now!

I'm a little nervous about buying from places like Groupon and am considering paying an extra $300 just for peace of mind getting a used phone from Apple. I know several people who have had good experiences with Groupon, but it still makes me nervous.

But does anyone else have any trusted sites?

Has anyone ever bought a 9/10 or higher condition, certified refurbished phones from Best Buy? I was originally looking for tablets a few months ago, just to find they’re higher price than brand new ones from stores (Samsung/apple) but I found a phone for about $300 cheaper. Wondering if anyone had problems or good experiences with the refurbished ones

Hey, wall of text incoming!

I have worked at a cell phone repair shop and we sold refurbished phones all the time. The odd one would have an issue, but the majority of the time, there was never a problem. Of course, we were extremely picky on what we sold and would send ones that didn't get through our inspections/QA back to the supplier all the time. It was pretty rare that we sold ones that came in off the street. As long as you are picky about what you get you should be okay.

Best Buy doesn't sell refurbished phones. Those are "Marketplace" sellers and aren't regulated by Best Buy. The sellers pay to be put on the website, similar to Amazon private sellers. Walmart does this too now.

Best Buy does run an auction website similar to eBay, 2ndturn, that they use to sell returned items. This includes phones that have been traded in when upgrading/signing phone contracts. You can get killer deals on Best Buy items here if you know how to play the auction game; games, tvs, computers, phones, etc. This is where a lot of the marketplace sellers get their phones from (and local resellers), they then resell them on the Best Buy website. Source: I worked at Best Buy and people would ask about the Marketplace stuff all the time. Best Buy has no return policy and very limited control over the marketplace sellers. You're taking your own risk by buying from them. Some are good, some are bad.

If you do buy a refurbished phone, run the IMEI through one of the many checks. This can be done on any of the telecom websites; Telus, Bell, Freedom, etc. It will indicate if the device is going to work on their network. If it says it won't, then the device is blacklisted in North America and has been reported stolen. It will work outside of NA, though. The status can show that all is good, and then be blacklisted after you have used the phone for a month or more. Although, I only saw this with phones that were bought on Kijiji (common scam was to purchase insurance when getting a new phone, sell it on Kijiji, and then report it stolen. Phone gets replaced and the seller pockets the money. Buyer get screwed over). Check the battery. On iPhone, there's a battery life indicator inside the settings. On Android, there's apps to download that will indicate the battery life remaining. Test everything on the phone; ports, cameras, speakers, etc. Samsung has a testing function. Go to the keypad to make a phone call and type *#0*#. You can go through and test everything there (except battery life).

Refurbished phones are a hit or miss. I personally don't trust them because they're often a few years old and at that point they often come with issues with either battery or motherboard. You might get lucky with one that's fairly new and in great condition but I wouldn't chance spending a few hundred on it

Does anybody know of any reputable places to buy a refurbished (but unlocked) iPhone in town?

I was going to buy of the US Apple site, but it's looking like it's more hassle than it's worth, and the Canadian site doesn't sell refurbished phones.

Traveling to east coast in Canada later this year ( around new iphone launch actually ) and was wondering where you could buy refurbished iphones? Is there a store or official reseller of apple that offers refurbished models? I am looking around the area of Toronto, Montreal, Quebec. Will be doing a roadtrip around or passing these areas.
I am not a Canadian resident, so online purchases will not be possible.

I have an iphone 6 but it got sluggish and laggy, and due to its 1GB of RAM it cannot handle the new and updated apps (which they force you to update), So I thought of selling it and getting the budget option without losing any money, an iPhone SE since its chip is faster, has 2GB of RAM and battery life isn't a problem due it's small screen. Also still have the Headphone jack.

I went to ebay and I found cheap refurbished options, but also what caught my attention that the preowned ones costs more than the refurbished ones. So in my head a series of questions started, about the reliability, the life expectancy and so on..
Didn't know where to ask but I think I might get some help from here.

So I previously bought an iPhone X on eBay but found out it was blacklisted l. Luckily I got my refund but I'm looking where I could safely buy a new iPhone X. I don't care much regarding the newer phones and would probably jailbreak when support for the X is no longer supported. Appreciate any feedback.
